Both Hunter and Wendell had told Julian and Jeremiah to stay away from the woods when alone, especially the water, but Julian had wandered off out of curiousity. He hadn't gone too far, but when he got to the river, he knew that he should go back. But when he saw a little reddish brown colored lump shivering against the bank, he just had to go down and investigate. When he got to the little puppy, probably a little over two months old, he gasped in surprise and took off his little coat to cover the animal up. It was still breathing, Julie could tell because he was panting so hard. He was all cut up and wet, and it looked like someone had burned him with cigarettes. Julian didn't know what those wounds were, though. He sat there for a moment before he gently scooped the puppy up and headed up the hill carefully and back through the trees. The puppy was kind of heavy, so he had to take a few breaks before he finally came out of the woods and went over to Kinley's. It was the house Julian saw Jacob go into the most. He knocked on te door with the toe of his shoe and waited with the shivering puppy in his arms.
