Who: Scarlet Evans and Chris Ford
When: A few days after this
Where: Burlington, VT
What: Scar's dad calls back
Rating: SFW
It had been a weird summer. From meeting her dad to hooking up with her ex girlfriend again, Scar didn't really know where her head was. She had sprawled out on her stomach on her bed, kicking her feet up and down. When she heard her phone ring she reached and answered it without even looking at the screen.
"Please tell me you're Luka," she groaned into the phone. She was hoping it was someone she could actually talk to for once.
"Sorry, I can't say that I am," came an unfamiliar voice, she had heard at once before but she couldn't pin it down.
"Who is this?" she asked, picking at her nails.
"It's... uh... Chris Ford, your dad."
Scar's eyes went wide, she sat on the phone not able to comprehend what was happening, she couldn't think of anything at all to say even though she tried, making a strange noise when she spoke. "I..."
"I'm sorry for our introduction," he said. "It didn't go over... well, it just didn't really go over at all."
"Yeah, it really didn't," she said quietly.
"I'm sorry Scarlet. I... I want another chance, if you'll allow it."
"Mom told me not to see you again," she said simply.
"Please. Just one more chance to do this right. And I would love to meet your sister too."
Scar sighed lightly and rolled over on her bed so that she was facing the ceiling. "I want to try again too," she admitted. "I kinda freaked out last time, got myself all riled up and upset," she rested her hand on her stomach and closed her eyes. "I haven't told Vi yet though."
"It's okay, it's all okay. You have every right to be angry or upset with me. I should have tried harder," he said quietly. "I'm sorry that I didn't."
"I am too."
"I will make up for it... well, I'll try to make up for it."
"Okay," she said quietly. "Where do you want to meet up?"
"We're having a barbecue for Brian's fifth birthday. Naomi and I were thinking North Beach in Burlington would be a nice place. It would be close enough to you, right? What do you think?"
"We live right by North Beach," she said nodding. "I think... I think it would be really nice."
"Great," he said, genuinely pleased to hear that at least one of his daughter's would be attending. "Tell Violet she's invited as well. And don't forget to bring your swimsuits!"
"Cool," she nodded. "When is it?"
"This coming Saturday. I hope it's not too late notice."
"Not at all."
"Four o'clock?"
"Okay. I'll definitely be there."
"Thank you Scarlet. I hope your sister decides to join us."
"Me too. I'll see you Saturday."
"Yep. Goodbye."
"Bye," hanging up the phone she sighed and wondered to herself how she might talk Vi into going to this birthday party.
