She knew she had to tell Vi at some point what she had been doing all summer, why she had snuck off that one afternoon. Sitting in their bedroom on her own bed she looked over at her sister and sat up in her bed. "Vi, I gotta tell you something," she said.

"What's up?" Vi asked as she raked her hair brush through her hair one more time. She turned and looked at Scar. "Did we get a text from boyfriend?"

"No," Scar laughed. "Though we probably should call him soon," she suggested but there were more important matters at hand. "Are you doing anything this weekend?"

"No plans yet. I was thinking we could call up Trouble and see what she was doing. Or maybe hit the city and see the boys."

"Maybe, I kinda had plans for Saturday afternoon."

"Who did you make plans with? Are you... do you have a booty call?"

"Ew! No!" Scar laughed. She took a deep breath, now or never. "I... I'm going to see dad."

Vi looked at her for a long time, speechless. "What?" she asked simply.

"That day that I took off with the car? I went to go see him, it didn't go over too well but he called last night and he wants to try again. He wants to meet you."

"I'm not going," she said simply, turning back to her vanity. She picked up her brush and continued brushing her hair.

Scar stood up from her bed. "Come on Vi, he's out dad."

Vi turned and stood from the vanity and walked over to Scar. "No," she said simply. "He's not my dad, he never was," her voice was dark with her tone.

"He's trying Vi!" Scar said defensively. "It took him a while but at least he's trying!"

"I don't fucking care Scar, I'm not going to see him," she spat venomously.

"You don't have to be a fucking bitch all the time Vi," Scar said indignantly. "He deserves a fucking chance."

"He doesn't deserve a fucking chance! He's the reason why we're never going to understand normal loving relationships! He's the reason why we're never going to hold down one guy! We never had a fucking chance because of our fucked up parents. Why do you think I sleep around? Why do you think I close people out?" Vi was yelling, throwing her hands around angrily. "If he had let mom go, if he hadn't tried to make her marry him, she might have stayed around! He might have been able to be our dad but he just couldn't let it be, he couldn't except who she was. The world is not made out of fucking roses and daffodils Scar! People are selfish fucking assholes and it's never going to change."

"It's not his fault! It's both of their faults! They should have both gotten over their hang ups and made something work for us but they were both fucking selfish!" Scar countered. "Don't be so god damn cynical," she shoved Vi's shoulders. "Your seventeen, we don't know shit for shit! Especially love! I don't even know if I'm straight!" she covered her mouth. Whoops.

Vi stumbled a bit when Scar pushed her and stepped back, staring at her sister wide eyed. "What?" she asked breathlessly. "What?"

"It's nothing," Scar closed her eyes and put her hand on her forehead. "It's not important. The thing is... you can't stay mad at him forever," she said more softly. "Maybe things will change if you just... hear him out."

Vi shook her head, wiping her eyes. "It's not gonna change. Nothing is ever gonna change Scar. Can't you just leave it?"

"We have two brothers, Brian and Adam. And his wife is pregnant again, they're not sure if the baby is a girl or a boy yet."

"Fuck," she plunked down on her bed and laid back.

"Chris invited us to Brian's fifth birthday. It's at North beach."

There was a tense silence, Scar kept her eyes focused on her hands while she waited for Vi's response. "I'm not going for him. I'm going for the kid."

"Okay, I can deal with that."

"I'm still mad at you."

"You'll get over it."

"I know," she groaned.
