Madelyn still couldn't explain what had possessed her. It seemed like a spirit of the moment thing.

( She was blabbering on about her summer reenacting plans and Riley seemed mildly tolerant if only because it was something mainstream society frowned on and therefore he approved. )

Mr. Hawthorne Niktin,

I am writing to you on behalf of the New York Association of Wizards Department of Misuse of Magic regarding an incident of summoning sharks to a muggle beach on Friday, July 8th, 2011. We want to stress the importance of not performing magic in such places that muggles may witness it.

This is not the first incident involving you which has required our attention. As such your wand will be confiscated.

We have been informed that you will be returning to Dresden Academy to continue your studies in the fall. As such your wand will be returned to you when your supervising professor is able to speak on your behalf.

Who: Abernathy and Bill Ford

Where: The Ford Home, Lake Luzerne, NY.
What: Bill stumbles in on Abby and Bernadine's plot. Abby discovers one of her father's secrets and doesn't react well.

Eventually all secret plans get discovered. This was what Abby kept trying to remind herself while Bill Ford's temper reached all new heights. He'd come across a letter from Mother Criss to "Abernathy," though clearly it was written to Bernadine.

( Of course, Bill didn't think his sweet and innocent Bernadine would come up with this crackpot idea. )
