Who: Ryder + OPEN
When: Saturday morning
Where: Dresden Hall
What: Weekend detention
Rating: PUPPIES(/SFW) ..probably language though
Unlike most students, Ryder had a tendency to return from vacation with even more of a chip on his shoulder. It was no real surprise, therefore, to find that he had scored himself weekend detention less than a week in from Spring Break. He made his way to the main entrance hall with enough time to properly enjoy his first cigarette of the day. Ryder contemplated about what they might have him do this morning as he waited. Weekend detention tended to be more child-labour than its weekday afternoon counterpart, which was more of a sit down, shut up and do your homework affair. It had been a wet week, but seemed to be a little clearer out this morning. He kind of hoped for something outside - not really feeling like dusting or polishing shit in a musty old room. He did wonder why they bothered with him any more, but it was probably a good way to get all those little jobs done without having to pay anyone.
Movement nearby prompted Ryder to snuff out the rest of his cigarette - not that the smell wouldn’t give him away. But he was already in detention - what more could they do? He looked around for the source of the noise - wondering if somebody would be joining him or if it was just one of those crazy weekend early risers. There was definitely something wrong with those types, he had decided.
(OOC: IDK if anyone else would have weekend detention or not. But if anyone was feeling like NPCing a staff member.. now could be a good time. :D Or else another student up earlyish on the weekend is free to poke fun at him/enquire about his detention. XD)

"Shit dude," he said to Ryder with an unmistakable grin despite his tired appearance. "The fuck did you do this time?"
As for the question, Ryder grinned. "I may have accidentally temporarily blinded a kid. He was fine," the Junior shrugged. "Until he hit the wall trying to get away." Ryder still laughed at that image - it was priceless. "You?"
Thorny laughed; Ryder knew how to tell a story. "Clearly not your fault," he agreed while rolling his eyes. He shrugged, tilting his head to the side as if he were abashed. His reason for detention wasn't nearly as colorful as Ryder's. "Olivier caught me on my phone in class again. Second time this week." He shook his head because it was rather stupid. He'd already spent an afternoon in detention for the first offense; he didn't see how the second had earned him weekend punishment. "Ah. Fuck it, man. What's the worst they can do?"
Ryder considered the question whilst kicking at an imaginary stone. "Expulsion," seemed the obvious answer. But he'd hazard a guess that that was more likely an outcome for him. "I dunno. They could have us clean out the rag bins in the girls toilets?" It was a nasty thought, but surely there was something worse he could come up with. "I dunno," he sniffed. Maybe not. "I wish he'd hurry up though. I want to get whatever it is done. There are phone calls to be made and freshmen with full use of their eyes, after all."
As for the phone call. "Not really. I texted my cousin and then the bastard wouldn't stop texting me. Then my other cousin was texting me about sending underwear to some chick." That didn't go over so well when Olivier took his phone away from him. Thorn was kind of surprised that Luka wasn't serving detention with him too.
He groaned at the idea of expulsion. And then again at the mention of girl's toilets. "Jesus I hope it's not that. I wouldn't mind getting out on the farm to be honest." At the very least it was outside and Frank Smith was probably one of the chillest teachers to do detention with.
"Fucker," he commented despite not knowing which of the Nikitin's Hawthorne was talking about. "Who's sending underwear? And who are they sending it to?" That could be an interesting piece of information.. if only for teasing purposes. Unless.. "Were they sending their own?" That would be weird. "Did she read them?" he asked with respect to Ms Olivier and the texts. Ryder pretended not to give a shit about gossip, but really it was all fodder for his attacks.
"The farm I could deal with. Outdoors. Smithy. Shouldn't hope though or we'll end up sorting piles of parchment with Montgomery."
But of course, he'd rather not have cause for punishment. "Luka. No idea. Olivier took my phone away before I got the answer and then Luka was chickening out about telling me details." Then he laughed. "Of course she read them. Don't know how that bastard Luka got out of serving detention."
He sighed and took a good stretch. "Ugh. Parchment. Wouldn't mind working with Setzer, but he's probably not on campus. Those detentions were always the most fun."
"Detention isn't meant to be fun, boys."
It probably should have been no surprise to him to see that his wards for today's detention were Hawthorn Nikitin and Ryder Balston; the usual suspects. At times he wondered if they didn't get in trouble just to punish him. They couldn't for one second imagine that he liked having to come in on weekends.
"All right, what do we have you for this time?" He skimmed over the notes he'd been given on their offenses. "Phone in class and... really, Balston?"
Of course West would arrive whilst they were discussing the type of detention they'd like. "Fun?" Ryder looked confused. "Did we say fun? Clearly we meant useful." He almost went on about discipline and benefitting the school, but Ryder was slowly learning to cut the bullshit around those that new better. And given Professor West's lack of surprise at seeing their faces this morning, he was certainly one of the ones that knew better.
"It was an accident!" Ryder protested, speaking of bullshit. Though that wasn't entirely untrue.
"We prefer to be useful," he added unconvincingly. He wasn't going to push it beyond that. They could end up with something far worse to do today.
He plunked a wide hand onto each boy's shoulder and steered them into Dresden Hall, past the dining area and towards the kitchens.
"Last night's dishes aren't going to clean themselves."
He really shouldn't push his luck, but Ryder couldn't help but ask, "What if we do get the dishes to clean themselves? Then could we get something outside?" He was pretty good at charms. Though cleaning.. not really his forté.
