Contacts with the Wizarding world: Kathryn Schaffer Meyer was a wizard who attended Hogwarts but chose to return home. She sided with those who were against the Dark Lord and would not be recruited by them; paid the price with her life but not before wounding a few a long the way. Rebecca knows about the wizarding world for her mother taught her many things as did her grandfather. But she never forgot what Magic and Wizards did to her and her family and she's been determined ever since to unlock the reasons why they are so different and what makes one person able to do magic, while others are not.

Job Type: Believing the nature of Magic is truly biological, Rebecca went into the sciences. Under the guise of researching diseases and imperfections in the cells of the body at a molecular level, she also works in her more important work of finding out what makes Wizards tick.

Character History: Rebecca Erica Meyer was born in Roanoke Virginia, the only daughter and second child to David and Kathryn Meyer. She was a bit spoiled but had a truly happy childhood and wanted for nothing. The family was close and very well known throughout the Roanoke community. She adored and loved her older brother and wanted to be just like him when she got older.

When they were little, Devin received his letter to Hogwarts. Hogwarts wasn't unheard of around them but Rebecca had always thought them to be fanciful stories of her mothers while putting her to bed at night. But then that letter had come. She remembers her parents being so apprehensive but Devin still left. Rebecca missed her brother and couldn't wait for her own letter. It wasn't the same in the house without Devin. They wrote as much as they could but he still wasn't there across the hall. But soon it would be her turn. To be a Wizard; think of all she could do.

But the the letter never came.

It seemed only Devin would have the chance to be great, she thought as a small child, and that jealous because anger and determination. Why had the blood of her mother favoured her brother and not her. Her parents tried to explain why this happened to some but not to others but in the end it was no great consolation for not only losing her brother but for being denied what she thought she should be allowed to do too. She became reclusive as she grew up and focused all her energy into school and her studies, learning everything she could about a lot of different subjects.

Rebecca had some friends and even fewer that could be considered close. Rebecca was far closer to her books more than anything.

Then things got confusing and scaryfor her and the rest of the family. Strange people came around and it kept making her mother more and more worried. And then it came. The day that changed Rebecca forever. Her and her mother were coming home from the store and Rebecca had gotten into the house first but her mother hadn't followed and then she heard the scream. She looked out the window and saw the dark cloaked people, the same who had haunted the family in the months before. Then they attacked her mom, and killed her. They were gone quickly as Rebecca ran out to her mother but nothing could be done.

She withdrew more, and distanced herself from her father and brother. Everyone remarked how she changed over time and soon she was heading to university, and it was a blessing to go away, even if it wasn't that far in distance.

Rebecca went into the science field, specifically molecular biology. She spent most of her time in the lab and in research. Rebecca enjoyed dorm life and enjoyed parties and the like but she also had her goals and plans for her college life. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and got an internship at MIT her last two summers at the University of Virginia.

Rebecca applied for and got the chance to study in England for her Master's Degree and Doctorate, and she took it. She expanded her field of study from molecular biology to include forensics. Once at Oxford, she began her work anew.

It was toward the end of that first year in London that she was approached by more strange people in strange clothing. But they were not wizards though they did know about them, and they knew her, and all about her family, what had happened. They offered her a chance to help them and avenge her mother. They told Rebecca she would be working to help do good things; that it would be beneficial to everyone, and that she should continue it but work for them.

The prospect surprised Rebecca and though it didn't take long to accept, it did make her think what her role as a scientist could be to them. since they had a distinct military/government look about them all. Her mysterious benefactors were generous and got her the equipment and supplies she needed and Rebecca fell headlong into a new world and new work. She learned very that she was greatly revered, not only for her work but because of her brilliant deductive mind.

With a mix of molecular biology and forensics in her background, she was tenacious and couldn't stop until she found out what she needed: a way to stop those who hurt her mother and destroyed her family.

Personality: Rebecca tends to be private and somewhat reserved. She is fascinated by science in all forms but especially biology. She loves the challenge and she loves the buzz of working on research. Hours can go by and she won't notice. She's passionate and holds nothing back when it comes to her determination.

Everything about her as a child was out-sized. Her intelligence, her energy, her curiosity. Rebecca was pretty much all or nothing in high school, and as talented as she was, grace didn't come with the package. The other kids resented her, and she did nothing to ease the resentment. None of them could understand what she was going through, she was convinced of that completely.

Rebecca reads voraciously. There isn't a subject that doesn't interest her, but the one section of the school library where she read every book was the sciences. There was never enough there for her to read, not in high school, not at college. It wasn't until Oxford that the books outnumbered her appetite for learning, but she still went one.

She went out, partied and dated but it was only for the moment. No one could understand her need to do the work and why it was her life. If anyone did, she'd likely marry him.

Rebecca doesn't truly want to hurt those of the Wizarding World, she wants to understand them. However it is her skewed look on reality, her undaunted determination to the goal and task at hand that lead to her questionable methods at attaining that.

WHY is your character against magic and attempting to wipe it. Please give as many details and reasons as to why: Above all, vengeance. Magic, those who use it, killed her mother and left her without her best friend. She wants to hurt them all as much as they hurt her. Then there's jealousy. Her brother went to Hogwarts and she didn't. If she'd had any magically abilities at all, she might have saved her mother. Scientifically. It goes against everything she's learned, read and seen. She wants to know why and how.

PB: Julia Stiles
