FAMILY / HISTORY
MOTHER | Margaret [OPEN] Abbott, pure-blood, hufflepuff, former wizengamot member, d. 1996
Hannah and her mother were very close. As the baby of the family, Hannah had more alone time with her mother than any of her siblings. She and her mother made the kitchen their special place on the weekends when they could do what they wanted since the other children were at Hogwarts. Her mother's death (at the hands of Death Eaters for refusing to comply with their demands) struck a deep blow. But instead of wanting to give up on things, Hannah instead has taken it upon herself to be stronger than even in the face of evil.
FATHER | Peter Abbott, pure-blood, gryffindor, obliviator.
Hannah isn't really the princess of the family -- that's Eve. But Hannah still has a very good relationship with her father. She respects him a great deal and takes his counsel seriously. She knows that he looks out for the family. Since her brother had moved out already and her sister is in Egypt, Hannah feels extremely responsible for him since their mother died and sent him owl after owl last year, and hopes to do the same this year.
BROTHER | Otto Abbott, 24, pure-blood, hufflepuff, invisibility task force.
Hannah has always tried to impress her big brother. Since he is six years older than her that has been a difficult task indeed. That doesn't mean she hasn't tried all she can to make it possible. Hannah has wormed her way into his selective heart more and more with every year. The two of them are fairly close, in their own sort of way, and he checks in on his kid sister time and again, especially after their mother died.

SISTER | Eve Abbott, 22, pure-blood, slytherin, cursebreaker in egypt
Eve was, at least in Hannah's eyes, the favourite. Her brother's favourite, her father's favourite, and even her mother's favourite. Eve has always been the picture of success, not struggling at hardly anything she puts her mind to. She's extremely talented and was swooped up by the cursebreakers before St. Mungo's could get their hands on her. She writes papers about Dark Arts that have been published in two magazines already, and sometimes Hannah feels almost dizzy at trying to keep up with her sister.

It wasn't that they meant to marry for blood, although both of them were relieved when the one they fell in love with was of Pureblood. Margaret and Peter had grown up with the expectation that one day they would marry someone they loved -- who was a pureblood. And it worked out for them. Peter was doing well as an obliviator, but Margaret was the true shining start of the two of them when it came to rising power within their careers. From starting as a barrister, Margaret made waves in the justice department of the Ministry. She, even as she had children, made significant contributions in various areas of wizarding life. She tended to stay away from issues relating to blood as she felt she was not as useful in those matters, but dedicated herself to everything else.

While Margaret was fighting for the rights of wizarding kind, she also became a mother three times over. First there was Otto, the baby boy. Margaret and Peter were thrilled to welcome a child into their five year long marriage. He was a rambunctious little boy, always filled with energy. He kept his parent's hands full and although they had planned to wait a bit longer, Eve appeared on the scene. She, with her winning ways even as a little child, captivated the hearts of her parents. With their two children born and potty-trained, the Abbotts decided to wait some time before introducing another little child into the fold. So the family became united as a unit of four for several years before Hannah was born.

Hannah was a fairly easy child, which was a relief to parents three times over. They loved their daughter, but the milestones were not as overwhelming and cause for as much celebration as they had been for Otto and Eve. But that didn't mean that she wasn't nearly as precious and that they didn't dote on her as much as they did the others. From a very early age she wanted to be like her sister Eve. She followed after her big sister as much as she could, trying to mimic her. Eve was resistent to her younger sister following her around, being six years old when the baby was only two. She didn't enjoy playing with her sister as much as their parents had hoped, but she wasn't exactly mean to Hannah. Her brother, too, was hesitant to have her around. He was much older and once the novelty of being a big brother the second time around wore off, wanted her to be out of his hair. Margaret did a good job keeping the family unified as a mother, and Peter didn't do a bad job himself. Weekends were always family time, as Margaret had to do a lot of work during the week and could often be harried. But dinners were always held together, and not even Margaret's rising career could get in the way of that.

The children were educated at a small wizarding primary. It was there that Hannah met several students she would know at Hogwarts (##, ##, ##, etc.). She was an exuberant and lively child, always full of energy, pep, and smiles. When she was six she led the girls on the playground in a rousing game of 'kiss the boys' wherein they ran about chasing the boys and trying to kiss them on the cheek. She wasn't the best in her studies, but she was good at maths and science. Of course, Eve excelled at everything she did. Hannah was jealous of her sister's brainy antics. Even Otto did very well. Hannah always felt that her siblings were fantastic and amazing. She always looked up to them and tried not to worry about her own inadequacies. She just focused on adoring people for what it was they were able to do.

When her siblings went off to Hogwarts, she got to spend extended time with her mother. The two of them would often cook together in the evenings since her mother cooked at least three days a week. One the weekends they would bake treats for Hannah to bring to school for her schoolmates, which she loved to do. She became very close to her mother and the two of them were great friends in the four years before she left Hogwarts. In the summers she was a little jealous of the attention that her siblings received after the joy of having them home wore off. But the connection was there, and it was deep.

Hannah's turn to go to Hogwarts came before too long. She was thrilled to get to go with her parents and just her for her first shopping trip, as her parents wanted to make sure that it was special for her. She was more than comfortable with the magical world but it was something else to be the one to hold a wand and the one being fitted for Hogwarts robes. She and her parents talked the whole time about what house Hannah was going to be sorted into, and they agreed it would probably be Hufflepuff, and Hannah hoped so since it was the home of her mother and her brother. She felt a keen connection to the house. So when she was the first one to be sorted at Hogwarts, she was thrilled when the hat said that the only place she could belong was Hufflepuff, among the loyal and industrious.

She made fast friends with Ernie Macmillan and Justin Finch-Fletchly. The three of them became almost inseparable. From first year on, it was them against the world. She found Justin charming and an excellent secret keeper. She also found his stories of Muggle life to be AMAZING! Ernie was so admirable with all of his confidence and take-charge personality. Hannah felt that she just couldn't ask for better friends. When the Chamber of Secrets was open, Ernie helped make her feel safe, even after Justin fell prey to the basilisk. Hannah was distraught at the loss of her friend and worried constantly that he was going to never wake up. But he did, and she spent the summer helping him catch up on his studies.

Next year things were terrible, but not quite as terrible as almost losing Justin! But Sirius Black was back, and even found in the castle. Hannah, who was an avid reader of Witch Weekly found their theories about Black to be extremely accurate. But she wasn't anticipating him to be in the castle. Even though she was in a dormitory far away from Harry Potter, she still wondered what was going to happen to her with a madman on the loose. She knew plenty about him thanks to her mother's lessons on what had happened in the war against Voldemort. It was because of these lessons that her mother had told her to be nice to the awkward Longbottom boy, because he had lost his parents. Hannah didn't know how that had happened, but she felt sorry for him because of it and tried to treat him better.

Fourth year was exciting because of the Triwizard tournament! What a great time to be at Hogwarts. But she wasn't happy when Harry Potter became a fourth competitor. After all, it was supposed to be Cedric's year! And Hannah harbored a crush for her older housemate, and because of this she wore a Support Cedric badge to show her support for him. The ball was nice, though, and she had a very good time. But things got worse -- although Hannah knew there were rumors that Voldemort had returned, she didn't expect Cedric to die at the hands of Voldemort himself. Having heard from her mother how evil Voldemort had been, she automatically believed Harry and Dumbledore and felt bad for having ever been mean to him because of his tri-wizard status.

Fifth year, however, was full of nerve wracking experiences. Firstly, she had been given a prefect badge and she wanted to be the best prefect she could be. Secondly, Dolores Umbridge took over the school with a heavy hand. The changes didn't sit well with her, neither did the way she abused the Dark Arts lesson. She was stressed that she wouldn't do well on her exam, which her mother said was a very important subject to learn and her sister had so excelled at. When Hermione Granger approached her about the Dumbledore's Army group, she was a bit nervous about breaking the rules but agreed to go. It became an eye-opening experience for her. Instead of being rubbish at Defense like she had feared, she excelled at the subject. She loved getting to work on her patronus (a squirrel) and learn all sorts of spells. She wanted to help support Harry in any way possible after having been unkind to him the year before. She had to deal with her exams, however, and was overwhelmed by them and feared she would fail everything and let her family down. In fact, when she took her Transfiguration exam, instead of doing the right spell she got nervous and created a flock of flamingos! There went that NEWT. But thankfully that was one of the last ones she did, and she did fairly well in her classes. When the trio, Neville, Ginny and Luna broke into the Department of Mysteries to fight against Death Eaters, Hannah was completely overwhelmed with shock. She listened to Ron's stories with wide-mouthed interest. Hannah also felt a little bad for having turned her nose up at Neville, who had proved himself a hero. She realized that she couldn't judge a book by it's cover, and some of her shallowness began to dissipate.

The summer between her fifth and sixth year was full of celebration and goodbyes. Her mother, after years of service, had been asked to become a judge and join the Wizengamot. It was an almost unheard of early promotion, and the whole family was surprised to see this change, but very proud of Margaret for what she had achieved. However, as the summer wore on Hannah began to see dark circles under her mother's eyes, and they didn't spend as much time together as they once had. Margaret gave Hannah an early 'coming of age' present. A small oven she could bring with her to Hogwarts and bake with. Together they gave him the name Wellington. It was also an important summer because Eve was moving to Egypt. Hannah was so proud of her sister for taking on a Cursebreaker position. Eve was something of a wunderkind with Defense, and she knew her sister would do well. And, when Hannah left for Hogwarts, she had no idea how she would come back to her home.

There was a reason behind the dark circles under Margaret Abbott's eyes. And it wasn't her workload. Supporters of Voldemort had began pressuring her to pass particular bills and legislation -- all of then anti-Muggleborn and anti-Muggle. She tried to keep them at bay claiming that since she had never been an advocate on either side that someone would know what was happening. And, desperate to get away when the pressure only increased, Margaret notified the aurors. A Death Eater got arrested and, in retaliation, she was murdered on October 15th. Hannah was pulled from her Herbology class with the news that her mother had been murdered. It was devastating. She hardly had the ability to explain to her friends while her trunk was packed and she was going away. Their loving support helped her a little, but how does one get over the death of a mother?

She stayed home until the end of the Christmas holidays. Hannah missed her friends and wanted their support. There still was quite a bit of it, in the form of letters. But it wasn't the same as being in their company. When she got back to Hogwarts she was rather quiet and although she did her prefect duties, she stayed fairly cocooned in the Hufflepuff common room spending time with her friends and studying to catch up. The later in the year it got, the more back to her normal self Hannah became. She returned to her fast paced ways and her exuberant behaviors. It didn't make the pain any less real, but it did make her feel more like herself and that felt good. The end of term approached with little other excitement beyond the darkening of the world due to Voldemort. Hannah felt both angry and a little fearful at the advancement of Voldemort and his minions. But she didn't give up hope that the right would win out. As it was, when Dumbledore died Hannah found it more difficult to have hope. She had never realized how much the headmaster had been a beacon of hope, and knowing that he was gone felt like a light going out inside of her.

The summer between her 6th and 7th year was not a happy one. She knew that Voldemort was growing in power, and she knew that her family might be a target even though they were Purebloods. She didn't want to give into the dark power that was flooding the world, and after careful introspection she decided that she would stand up like her mother if she ever had the chance to do so. Having grown up with the stories of the war of her parents, and having had a mother who sacrificed her life to fight for the right, she had no other choice in her mind. She faltered, though, when they lost Justin. She had never imagined that something would happen to him, but in retrospect she realized that she should have been more aware of what could happen. She's terrified at the idea of what could have happened to him, but tries to only send him best wishes and love from deep within her heart and trust that one day she'll see him again.

Hannah would have already been going to Hogwarts, but the decree that everyone must be present gave her a sense of foreboding. But she's ready to go and try to calm the many students who need a loving prefect to watch over them.

PERSONALITY
Hannah Abbott is living life in the fast lane. She's quick, always on the move, and eager to seek out new experiences. But there's another side of the coin, and that side is one of someone who can be hurried (sometimes she talks so fast she's breathless). Her energy is enthusiastic and propelling to some of her friends. But where Hannah is constantly moving forward, she can keep running past the finish line. This means that she sometimes misses out on celebration because she is always seeking the next thing to conquer. She doesn't have an off button and suffers from insomnia as her mind is always racing. Her friends have to remind her to stand back and take a deep breath. Because of her quick mind and quick body, Hannah sometimes takes on a nervous sort of energy. When taking a test, for example, she rushes so much that she sometimes does badly on them if she hasn't studied well (which she sometimes rushes through, too...). She's smart, so she earns decent marks. But for example, when Potions was her favorite subject she was too quick with the cauldrons and wound up trying too many new ideas that she bombed the class despite being enthusiastic about it.

And Hannah does like to try new things, from potion ideas to baking and cooking, which she does well with. There's more of a softness and slowness for Hannah in the kitchen, as she associates cooking and baking with her mother's gentle spirit. Her mother wasn't nearly as good at cooking as Hannah is, but the two of them spent a great deal of time in the kitchen before Hannah went to school and then during her holidays. But even if she learned tried and true ways, Hannah can't help but throw in a bit of 'Hannah Magic' to the pot or pan to varying results. Thankfully she keeps record of both. She is enterprising, always looking at things from another angle. She's not one to get stuck in the mud when it comes to problems, and is a problem solver of the quick degree. While Hannah's ideas certainly aren't always the right ones to go with, she's one of the first people to offer them.

She's the daughter of a Wizengamot member. Is she principled? You betcha. Hannah grew up with a very strong idea of right and wrong. Where some parents might have depended on discipline to shape a child's idea of right and wrong, Hannah's parents focused on explaining issues to them in quiet, clear description. Hannah has also learned, through their example, how to patiently explain why things are right or wrong to others. Her parents were very firm in their ideas on blood purity: they believed there was nothing wrong with maintaining strong bloodlines and were unapologetic about their own pureblood marriage and maintaining the name Abbott, but they were also outspoken about the right to have all of wizarding kind included in the wizarding world. If any of her siblings or Hannah had had the gall to use the M word, they would have found themselves extremely punished for that transgression. Hannah has always been told that she could marry a Muggle if she wanted. But she knows, deep down, her father hopes that her brother marries a Pureblood girl to continue on the Abbott line.

Hannah has been social since she was old enough to communicate with her eyes. She has always been drawn to people and can feel anxious or lonely quite easily if she's forced to be kept alone. Hannah was always very close to her siblings as she loved being able to make friends with them when she was young. She was quick to latch onto friends, especially Ernie and Justin, and develop those friendships quickly. When it comes to the greater world of Hogwarts, Hannah is a familiar face to people and she learns names and little details fairly quickly. She knows people's names, house and year, and sometimes little tidbits like their favourite subject or the name of their pet. Additionally, Hannah is a great encourager. She's not always the most honest in her encouragements, but they are still heartfelt! You don't want to ask Hannah if your butt looks big in that dress because she'll always say no. Even if you haven't done a good job at something she might tell you that you did a good job and you'll get the hang of it! Most of her compliments and encouragements are genuine, but there are always those that aren't.

Hannah has a habit of thinking that the worst things are going to happen to her. She doesn't really voice these concerns of hers, but privately she has developed a good deal of anxiety by holding her fears so close. She has some bizarre fears -- like randomly thinking that there are rats in her bed. She doesn't like heights and abhors brooms. She doesn't usually cheer for Quidditch games in the stands, but from the ground itself. Intellectually she knows that these are absurd and she would be safe, but she can't help having anxiety. As a youth she struggled to be more in control of them, but now she is doing much better and only her closest friends would know that she has these particular freaks.

As one assumes out of a Hufflepuff, Hannah is very loyal. Her friends know that they can count on her dependable nature. Hannah jumps to the defense of those she loves, although deep feelings for a person aren't altogether an average occurrence for Hannah. But for those that she really loves she loves them thoroughly and unashamedly. In addition to this Hufflepuff trait, Hannah is quick to assume responsibility. Perhaps this is why she was chosen to be the Hufflepuff female prefect. when something needs getting done, she does it. She's willing to help people, from tying shoes to holding books or guiding them down the right passageway, but! It is not from a selfless place in her heart. Hannah wants to be appreciated, and while she'll continually do things over and over again when they are asked of her, a little bit of resentment builds up over time as she serves people.

QUESTIONS
Answer in character as though they were on veritaserum. If they would normally lie, have them explain why.
WHAT IS YOUR VIEW ON BLOOD STATUS? Blood doesn't matter. I might have pure-blood, but that doesn't make me any better than anyone else. Justin is one of my best friends and he doesn't have pure-blood. In fact, he's muggle-born! But he's a wonderful friend, has a winning personality and is very intelligent and good with magic. I think that judging people in any way is the fast way to having problems with others. The truth is that we should be judging people on the merits of their character instead of the merits in my blood. The last war was over nonsense and a lot of people died fighting over the way we should treat muggles and muggle-borns. Without new ideas and change any world would remain stagnant!
HOW DO YOU VIEW HEADMASTER SNAPE & THE CARROWS? Headmaster Snape is scary. I mean, just think about it! He killed Headmaster Dumbledore. How can he be the headmaster now? That doesn't make any sense and it's just a sign of how backwards everything is now. The Carrows are creepy in their own way. They seem so excited to teach lies and dark material. I know that I'll be trying to stay on their good side so that I can help the DA under cover, but I just want to scream at what they're saying.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF HARRY POTTER? I haven't liked Harry all the time. But when it comes down to it, he's always the one who saves the day! I think that he is very brave and hardworking. He could have been a Hufflepuff, you know. He's so diligent and loyal. I really hope he'll be able to win the war. I want him to bring Justin back.
WHAT IS YOUR AFFILIATION AND WHY? I'm a member of Dumbledore's Army and I'll always be a member. I feel that the group of us can make a real difference in the school. I don't know what's going to happen now that Harry's gone, but I trust that we'll find a way to bring light into the darkness.
