Did someone make a mistake in the editing room and stick a bunch of 'Impossible Planet' clips into tonight's Doctor Who? Because... ha! Well, let's just say it gave me deja-vu, right down to the spacesuit with the little blue lights by the Doctor's face.
On the other hand, it was nice to see that the works of Bloody Stupid Johnson remain popular well into the nth century. Because who else would build a vital switch on the *outside* of a spaceship? (Perhaps the same mad genius who created a magnetic field stronger than the gravitational pull of a huge sun?) Whoever he is, it's a good thing he anticipated the sun being so ridiculously cold. Because let's face it, if they were 0.01 seconds (or whatever) from impact, they would have been so much crispy-fry.
One thing I couldn't fault though: the Doctor's expression when he climbed outside of the spaceship, right next to the sun, to pull the switch, with nothing securing him to the ship. You know, the one he pulled when he slipped and had to cling to the hatchway -- the one that went: "In retrospect, this was a really shitty idea". xD
The sun-possession was awesome, though. Very strange Darth Vader vibes going on, but still, I don't think scifi has done living suns before. (Perhaps in Sunshine? Must go see that when it comes out.) I do remember enjoying it, but darn if my recollections aren't fuzzy already. Did I drink too much fruit juice? O.o
And in the preview for next week? The Doctor turns into Sylar! :D (I really can't remember what gave me that impression, but there you go.) And gets attacked by mutant scarecrows! And brain-shocked! With silver gadgets!
So, yeah, lots to mock in this one. xD Good though. Also, how come in the future, normal white light seems to have been outlawed? It's always randomly bright green, red or blue, or all three at once. And also, my Sylar impression makes sense because the Doctor is clearly manifesting a superpower called "Trust Me Implicitly Even Though You Have No Idea Who I Am Or How I Got Here". |
