| So *that's* how you stop an exploding man. |

Meta for That Episode. :D Spoilers, yo.
This could be the last chance I’ll have until September (that’s a distressing thought), and so I’ll say here that I love the Heroes intro. The thing with the Earth becoming the eclipse whilst looking kinda like an eye and the music, the suggestion of a heartbeat… it’s pretty cool.
Oh, man, Homecoming clips! I want to watch that episode again after this one.
A sped-up version of Linderman biting it, which… hey, ew, did they have that bone-popping sound effect last episode? Reminds me of nothing so much as the T-Rex on Walking with Dinosaurs.
“You could have let it phase right through you!” says Niki, for the benefit of anyone silly enough to join the programme at the season finale. I don’t know, there seems to be a lot of dialogue in this episode that’s rather obviously geared towards exposition or moving the plot in a particular direction. Not that I have anything against plots, some of my best friends are plots, but it feels at times like the writers have sat down and thought “crap, we only have one episode to get everyone here and have them do this and this.” And then railroaded it a bit.
*dodges the thrown vegetables*
Mohinder looks substantially less pants-wettingly terrified in the catch-up. I wonder if Sendhil watched the previous episode and went “No, retake, I want to be an action hero!” xD
HRG: “Taking her life would save thousands.” Mohinder: “You said the same thing about sleeping with Sylar, and look how well that turned out.”
Hiro’s father is so supportive. xD It’s horrible, I know, but I love how Hiro’s so worried about Ando and wanting to save him, and his dad’s just all “Yeah, he’ll probably die. Now let’s play with swords some more.”
I also love that the Japanese for “no” sounds like “Yeah”. Because.
Wow, Sylar spends a lot of time in Isaac’s studio. He must really like it there. Fond memories or something. And has anyone bothered to clear up the poor man’s body yet?
Hey, Sylar’s left-handed. I had… not noticed that before.
Now, see, that bit from when he looks at the ‘flying’ picture to the scene cut… GOD WHAT DOES THAT REMIND ME OF? (Edit: I remembered. It's Garth Marenghi's Darkplace)... I would stage differently. It’s kind of cheesy this way, and a bit forced. I’d have the whole thing in one shot, maybe doing that crazy Heroes camera sweep from behind Sylar (so you can see the painting) in a half-circle to behind the painting (so you can see his “hi I’m-a gonna kill you” face at the same time as getting a good view of the canvas being sliced). I just reckon that would do the same thing without looking as cheesy, because Sylar does not deserve cheesy.
It would also help if Peter Petrelli’s name wasn’t such a mouthful to say quickly, but you didn’t hear that from me.
I love how Mama Petrelli is all “This is a terrible tragedy,” with the note in her voice of “it is a tragedy, no arguments”. Because somehow, especially now he’s won the election, I don’t think Nathan would exactly be beating his chest in sorrow that something bad happened to Linderman. The man was a jerk.
Hey—what’s this all about?

Only “guest starring”? I’m pretty sure that’s what they said about Sean Bean in the Fellowship of the Ring credits, too. This does not bode well.
Poor Nathan looks really tired. I bet it’s his mother’s fault. Mama: “Where do you think you’re going, Nathan?” Nathan: “Just out for a walk, Ma.” Mama: “There are people who can do that for you now you’re a Congressman.” Nathan: “I just want some air, Ma.” Mama: “You’re not going to try to stop the bomb, are you?” Nathan: *sigh* “No, Ma.”
The environmental sounds on Heroes are really freakin’ loud. Now I know how Dale Smither feels. Exactly how much noise does scraping stubble make? And is the sound of shifting clothes really that deafening? Heroes: Ordinary people with extraordinarily loud sound effects!
Niki/DL really is a beautiful ship. ^^
Mohinder’s great. He’s just completely swamped by what’s going on, so he’s gone “What the hell, I’ve already helped out a good guy who turned out to be evil, so maybe the guy who raided my apartment and tried to shoot Molly is a protagonist. I know, I’ll gain his trust by helping him dispose of the bloody corpse of a man he killed.” Possibly.
Uh, guys? Either Linderman has really low sanitation standards in his sterile hospital areas, or that body’s not going to stay hidden for long.
Poor Molly’s been forgotten, and now Peter is the only one who can stop Sylar. And I have no clue why. I mean, HRG says it’s because they can both go nuclear, but surely the only thing that’ll achieve is to make the explosion twice as large? I think his memory-wipe cleaned away the years when he learned about logic.
Unimpressed by Peter’s brotherly love, Claire runs away. Again. Into the night, alone, with no clue where Sylar is. Well, if Hiro stabs him and he regenerates, we’ll all know who to point and laugh at, won’t we?
Don’t try to lie to a mind-reader, Nathan. There was a reason Future!Sylar only talked to Matt on the phone.
Filled with the spirit of justice and the desire to rescue Claire from the clutches of evil Mama Petrelli, Peter… runs away, shouts her name a couple of times, starts to go nuclear and faints. Um… why, exactly, pray tell, does he faint? Did Claude sneak up and sock him one again?
Molly: “I think about him in my mind. As opposed to my buttock.”
When she thinks about him, he can see her? Ladies and gentlemen, we have established the presence of Sauron in the Heroes-verse.
HRG’s great. He’s all “Okay, you’ve had your foreshadowing, now let’s get back to the point.”
Matt’s channelling Ted. xD HRG: Isaac! Mohinder: Isaac! Matt: …who?
Um… I may be wrong, but can’t Nathan and Satan Mama Petrelli clearly hear HRG and Claire talking on the phone about running away from them?
D: Noooo! Matt! No, God, Matt, don’t go after him, for God’s sake! He can stop bullets and hold you down while he cuts open your head! Oh God. You telepathic fool. Matt better not die. He’s my woobie.
I like idealistic!selfless!innocent!Peter better than dark!Peter. In fact, am I the only person in the explored universe who didn’t think future!Peter was hot? And am I about to be lynched for saying this? I’m trying to work out whether innocence is a trend in characters I like. I love Hiro, for his bubbly awesome Hironess, but I don’t like future!Hiro. I like Mohinder, who is book-smart but people-stupid, which is a kind of innocence. (But on the other hand, look what he did in Parasite.) I like Matt, because. ^^ But I also like Sylar, who is anything but innocent. (Though I admit a penchant for dorky!Sylar.)
Having failed to reach any kind of conclusion on this topic, I shall now return you to your semi-regularly scheduled meta.
xD Dream!Peter’s never talked to a girl before, has he?
Gasp! Charles Deveaux knew Linderman! (Come to think of it, does ANYONE not know, work for, or at least know of Linderman?)
…So, what? Is Peter time-travelling, or dreaming, or what? Should we keep our eyes peeled for an Indian kid with a football?
*scene cut*
Heehee, it’s the Hiro and Ando theme tune! *dances to it* Love this music. Uh, wait—didn’t Ando go off to kill Sylar? And doesn’t that caption say “Isaac’s loft”? Then that means—
--OHCRAPGETOUTGETOUTHAULYOURBUTT*OUT*OFTHERE
I was so freaking scared the first time I saw this sequence. My God, I was so sure Ando would die. I don’t think I’ve ever sworn at a screen this much in my life.
So why is Sylar still there? He knows he’s going to fight Peter, so is he trying to find Peter, or is he just a bit bored, or has he just stepped out of another shower, or what? (He hasn’t been cleaning, that’s for sure: from the mysteriously undried blood, looks like Isaac’s still in there somewhere. I’m surprised the poor man isn’t starting to smell.) Then again, the relative timeframes in this episode give me a headache, so for all I know he could’ve only just slashed the canvas. Silly timeframes.
Sylar’s expression as he looks at Ando is great. He’s all “What is this silly man trying to do? *eyeroll*”
Uh-oh. Being stabbed isn’t a special enough death for Sylar. Why do I get the feeling that he wouldn’t have minded half so much if he’d been shown dying in epic battle, taking half the city with him?
Mm, cocky!Sylar. This episode needs less vague!Sylar and more cocky!Sylar.
…Okay, I officially don’t like Candace any more.
…How does she know all this stuff about the whole Niki/Jessica thing? Has Linderman shown her the files on them on the offchance that they turn up and have to be played with?
Oh, craptacular, now Matt’s going into Isaac’s loft. HAVE YOU NOT BEEN WATCHING THIS EPISODE, MATT?
Mohinder’s face when Molly says that Sylar’s there is impressively non-terrified. I bet if Matt had been there, he’d have been picking up something along the lines of “so, do I jump him now or try and get him handcuffed first?” And his expression would have been hilarious.
Go Claire! “The future is not written in stone”—good one to remember, that, even if you believe in Isaac’s art. Take the President paintings. Did they tell the whole story? Did they hell.
Go Claire! I love her crunchy little limp. xD DOES THIS GIRL FEEL NO PAIN?
Fly after her, Nathan! We know you want to!
Haha! Niki, you pwn! :D And Candace’s true form is revealed to be… a marginally less sylphlike version of what we’ve seen all along. …Well, crap. I wanted her to be the sassy black woman. She was great. xD
Niki/Micah reunion FTW!
Mohinder is sneaky like a ninja. :D
I love how no-one reacts to two guys with swords appearing out of nowhere in their workplace. xD
I hereby nominate this for Best Moment Evar: Ando: “Hiro? You look badass.” Hiro: “…Really?” *geeky grin*
Because xDD *hugs them both*
Best wake-up thingy ever, there, if I may say. When the camera slowly turns on its side, and Peter walks out of frame, which translates as getting up in the real world. Cookies to the director. ^^
Hurrah for HRG! Never leave another man behind!
“I’ll put you down myself.” It’s not a conventional way of being reassuring, but HRG makes it work.
Oh, hey! We’ll find out HRG’s first name! Which is…
…NOAH?
…
xDDDD
Yes, Biblical names are cool and all, but NOAH?
No wonder he wouldn’t tell Matt what it was. *snigger*
Ah, now we get to the bit where they all start coming together, and I start mentally adding “…whoever you are” after every other line of dialogue.
Peter: “That means he’s hiding in plain sight.” Have you tried looking behind the camera?
Other best moment evar: Sylar: “Haven’t I killed you before?” Peter: “Didn’t take.”
xD Love love love.
CRAPMATT! D:
Man, I love Sylar’s face here. All these random people are just coming and beating him up, and he’s thinking “WTF? Trying to have an epic showdown here? This is a really bad day.”
I find it awesome how, instead of using flashy powers, they’re just going and beating each other up with parking meters omg. A punch is always more satisfying when it’s your fist in their face rather than telekinetic energy.
Is it just me, or is laughing!bleeding!Sylar the creepiest adjective!Sylar of the lot?
And then Peter starts going nuclear for no very good reason, again…
And then… well, crap! The comic was right! D:
(I love Hiro’s little “Yatta.”)
…Nathan swooping in at the last moment is awesome, but how the hell did he hear Peter’s line when he was a black speck in the sky? O.o In truth, this is secretly the climax of a plotline in which future!Sylar from Five Years Gone eats future!Hiro’s brain, goes to the distant future, finds out that he has been completely forgotten about, comes back in time, ends up in the alternate timeline, hears Peter’s line with his super-hearing, decides to redeem himself (and hopefully be remembered) by saving New York, and tragically forgets to stop looking like Nathan while he’s doing it. It’s true, I saw those episodes on a rerun when I went to 2012.
(Or should that be ‘go to 2012’? Time-travel makes grammar hard.)
Nathan, you selfless box of awesome, you are now one of my favourite characters. I’m sorry that it took me until this late to realise it.
…Seriously, though, why do some people think that Nathan’s still alive? Given the force of that explosion, I hope for his sake that he’s not. Unless you’re particularly into limbless!mutated!Nathan.
Seriously. Matt better not die. Or will I have to smack a writer?
…
Have none of the characters or police or paramedics noticed the mile-long trail of blood leading to the open sewer lid? Come to mention it, did everyone wander off and then come back, or else was no-one looking for the ten-odd minutes it would have taken for a badly wounded man to drag himself across the concrete, or listening to hear his groans and the clanking of the lid?
Still, eh. I’m going to be hypocritically lenient with the logic here, because it means we get season 2 Sylar! Whoopie!
COCKROACH!
I wonder if it has Sybrows?
Hiro’s other superpower (besides the cuteness and the whole folding time and space thing) is clearly his unbreakable glasses.
Feudal Japan!
Godsend!
Hiro doing a Jack Sparrow run! (Well, sort of.)
Eclipse!
To be continued!
Is it September yet? |
