It never rains but it pours. (CLOCK POST!) [Jan. 22nd, 2008|09:04 am]

Living as I do in England, I can tell you right off the bat that this is untrue. See, it also drizzles, spits and mists; it buckets and storms and drowns; or, as happened yesterday, it is relatively dry but constantly threatening to flood. Fortunately, I am using the phrase here in its figurative sense, because I'm doing a clock picspam again.

Ladies and gentlethings, I have made a clock.

So, I was wandering around an art shop, thinking: "why am I here? What is my purpose in life? I already bought that watercolour block and a paintbrush, and I am on limited funds, yo." But then my eye fell upon...

THIS.

Photobucket
I AM NOT KIDDING YOU. I did a double take and everything. >.>

So, obviously I bought it.

Photobucket
I somehow had the idea that I'd actually be constructing the movement, but not for £11.50 I wasn't. Instead I got a bunch of parts, some precut MDF and... stick-on faces. Stick-on faces? To hell with those stick-on faces, says I: if I'm not going to actually be poking around inside the pretty gears and cogs, I'm at least going to force my way into some part of the creative process.

Photobucket
(All the time is time for correct punctuation. >.>)

Photobucket
First, of course, I had to pick a design. I was torn between a clock version of the Sylar watch (which... I may still do >.>) and this thing up top. (No, not the creepy embryo sub-sphinx sentinel. DON'T ASK.)

Photobucket
Clock face! Good God those numerals. >.> They've had a long night on the town.

Photobucket
I got this far, at which point I decided that it looked, well, a little bit shit.

Photobucket
Much better! :)

Photobucket
Because clocks without markings aggrivate me somewhat. (Despite owning a watch with only the twelve and six picked out, but, uhm, let's ignore that?)

Now to put the hands on -- wait a second...

Photobucket
What the crap? This part doesn't fit.

Photobucket
That's all very well, book, but I can't do as you suggest because YOU CLOCKTARDS MADE THE SPINDLE AN INCH TOO SHORT. GABRIEL GRAY WOULD NOT APPROVE. IN FACT, HE MIGHT EVEN MAKE A CONSTIPATED FACE AND HIT YOU WITH A CRYSTAL, BUT THAT IS ANOTHER MATTER FOR ANOTHER DAY.

Photobucket
Fortunately, the hands still went round; it was just a case of securing the movement. So now the back of my clock looks like it's held in place with chewing gum. Egads.

Photobucket
Against all the odds, though...

Photobucket
...I completed it!

Photobucket
Accurate to within two minutes a year, apparently. :D

Photobucket
Incidentally, the silver is Warhammer paint. Chainmail colour. xD

Photobucket
...Aaaand I'm going to stop now, before I start talking crap about the shiny new Gintyclock being welcomed into the fold by PiratePocketwatch and NakedClock. >.>
