Speaker For The Diodes - March 14th, 2008

Mar. 14th, 2008

05:38 am - QotD

"Science has a simple faith, which transcends utility. Nearly all men of science, all men of learning for that matter, and men of simple ways too, have it in some form and in some degree. It is the faith that it is the privilege of man to learn to understand, and that this is his mission. If we abandon that mission under stress we shall abandon it forever, for stress will not cease. Knowledge for the sake of understanding, not merely to prevail, that is the essence of our being. None can define its limits, or set its ultimate boundaries." -- Vannevar Bush, inventor and politician (b. 1890-03-11, d. 1974-06-30), "The Search for Understanding", Science is Not Enough, 1967

[Big day for scientists' birthdays today: Jean Baptiste Joseph Fourier, 1768; Giovanni Schiaparelli, 1835; Albert Einstein, 1879.]

08:59 am - Homespun Ceilidh Band Concert Tomorrow in Gaithersburg

Tomorrow, 15 March 2008, The Homespun Ceilidh Band will be performing at the 8th Annual Gaithersburg St. Patrick's Day Parade, at the Washingtonian Center (near I-370) in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

We'll be performing a two-hour concert (minus a break in the middle to catch our breath) immediately after the parade -- approximately 11:00, but we could wind up starting a bit earlier or later depending on exactly how the parade runs. (The parade starts at 10:00.) So if you're in the area, come on out to Gaithersburg for some rousing Celtic music to get your weekend underway!
