02:10 pm - Maryland Earthquake
(Oddly enough, I think I've slept through most of the other
earthquakes that have happened near me until now. Today I was
awake.)
- I think that if I had not read descriptions of experiencing
minor earthquakes by friends in more earthquake-prone parts of the
country than here over the years, the last few minutes would have
been rather more disconcerting than they were.
- I think that
if I had not spent so much time in taller, more flexible structures
where large trucks passing can shake the floor noticeably, the
"single storey houses built on concrete slabs in quiet residential
neighbourhoods DON'T MOVE LIKE THIS" aspect would have freaked me
out quite a bit more. (I'm at Mom's house.)
- While I didn't
really experience it exactly as 'fear' after I realized the scale
of the motion was too large (and too sustained) to be anything rlse,
my nervous system did get a "set peripheral nerves tingling" jolt,
so yeah, it affected my physiologically in a way that fits somewhere
on the fear spectrum.
Now to see how long it takes before
I can Google news reports about it ... maybe by the time I finish
writing this ...
[Edit: Ah, Twitter has it. 5.8, huh? Gotta look up the location
of the epicenter...]
