Spammers and Invite Codes

Greetings Journalers,

I apologize for the lack of updates about what's going on. We've been very busy working on other projects and with real life. That said, yes, we're requiring all new accounts to be created using Invite codes. Why? Because we're experiencing a massive amount of spam and it's causing a lot of problems on the server, specifically the database system. Any Permanent, Early Adopters, and Special Early Donator Accounts and Paid Accounts should have the ability to generate invite codes. I would like to extend the opportunity for everyone else to get invite codes without paying a single cent. Anyone who can report spam blogs to me (a comment on this entry will suffice) will get an invite code PER spam blog. A minimum of 10 spam blogs must be reported to get your invite code(s). I can then manually generate codes for you. If you'd rather pay, we have Permanent and Paid Accounts for sale. Permanent Accounts can be purchased for a one time $100 fee - payment can be sent to payments@scribbld.com (remember to include your username).

As mentioned we're not really actively developing Scribbld.com -- however there are some outstanding features and bugs we'd like to finish up and close in the near future.

We hope everyone is doing well and happy Spring!

[info]jimmy  & [info]morgan

Update: I've run out of codes, and it looks like they decided to remove the code/module which allows me to manually generate as many codes as I want from the codebase :( Boooo!! I'll try to come up with someone to fix this, in the meantime if you're feeling generous you can still let me know spam journals and I can get them removed from our site.

Current Mood: busy

I'm looking for an invite code so i can create a new account. None of my friends have the right accounts. I'm not a spam journal. I just need to create another account for RPG reasons. Would someone be willing to generate a code for me? Please. I've been trying for months now.

Invite Code Community

I usually don't comment on the news posts but since invite codes are currently required for creating new journals does scribbld have an official or non official community that users can offer their invites to those that want them? I know IJ has codeshare and DJ has several communities.

Re: Invite Code Community

This would be wonderful--if you found out about one, you would mind passing it along? My code needs are not many, but I do have a few right now that are a little pressing! xD Thanks a million in advance!

Hi Jimmy! Any closer to generating more invite codes? I've loved using Scribbld for a very, very long time (as evidenced by my Early Adopter status! :D), and I am a little bummed out that I'm unable to create new journals, since Scribbled is SO fantastic for roleplaying journals!

I don't want to be disrespectful at all, but I definitely know there are people anxious to be able to generate codes too. I just know how quickly it got frustrating when things like this happened on LJ, and I love Scribbld so much more dearly than LJ!

Thanks so much for all you do, and for making such a kickass home for all my roleplaying! You and the whole team are appreciated!

Can someone explain to me why all of my journals have been suspended? I had a lot of role playing journals that I used with friends and when I came back to read some of the things we wrote and worked on, I found out every single journal under my other email address was suspended.

Here's a spam account.

I've found that a good way to find them is to go to the "random" feature in teh side bar. They seem to pop up a lot that way.

So are you doing anything AT ALL about this, or should we consider this a dead site? I can see from comments above me that you're not responding to ANY support requests, and without the ability to invite friends to join us this site is beyond pointless.

You can go to the community 'invitecodes' and let us know how many codes you would like.

Scribbld is literally run by a tiny team and there comes a point where you have to choose the lesser of two evils and restrict account registration for a little while to cut down on spam. Otherwise there would end up being more spam accounts than legitimate users which, as well as taking up tonnes of server space, is really annoying. So yeah. I imagine jimmy et al are doing all they can.

codes

Hi, I can't even find where to generate a code from. There's nothing in the FAQ and I've tried googling the information, but I'm only getting stuff about LJ.

So...any help would be awesome, thanks.

Jimmy, I'm not sure if you are aware of this or not but the main link for account creation has been turned off. People that I've given codes to have not been able to create accounts. Would it be possible to get the link turned back on.
