The only son of Wilmur Longbottom, current 'head' of the Longbottom family, Geoffrey's birth was a happy occasion. Not only was he Wilmur and Francine's first child, but he was a boy, as well. Though the Longbottom family is by no means the most affluent of pureblooded clans, Geoffrey was raised with Good Manners. Nevermind that his family lived in the country, and only had the oppurtunity to attend the parties that their history, if not their ideals and (lack of) wealth, afforded them. He never had tutors, but he had his mother - who was just as well educated and twice as strict, when it came to learning. It's true that he knows how to collect eggs from the chickens and how to climb trees with his sisters and run about the land - but he also dances (somewhat) well, and speaks in the proper manner, and knows just how to treat a young lady of good breeding. Although Geoffrey treats any young lady as though she were of good breeding.
Growing up in an already large family, and being a rather happy child, content to sit and watch frogs at the stream for hours (or to sit in his father's library absorbed in a book for even longer), Geoffrey had no trouble at all adjusting to his younger sisters. In fact, he was rather enchanted with them, and no one ever made the mistake of thinking that as the elder sibling he was the one with the power. Rather, Geoffrey tended to do anything his sisters asked of him, and was clearly upset whenever they were upset, taking it upon himself to make them smile. He was equally fond of his cousins, although he was not quite so much at their whims.
Geoffrey never quite entered the stage of 'rambunctious' that many young boys seem to enter - though this was probably due to his mother's lessons, and the ideals of propriety and gentlemanly behavior and chivalry pounded into his mind. Not to say that he held the notion that females were somehow less than him - indeed, Geoffrey seemed to think his sisters better than him in every way, and tended to recite their achievements quite proudly to anyone who happened to listen. He couldn't abide by ill treatment towards any girl or woman, both before and particularly after his sisters' births.
Leaving for Hogwarts was rather troubling for him. It was not that he did not want to attend Hogwarts - rather, it was that he was put out about leaving his sisters and family, although a number of his cousins were already at school. Still, Geoffrey was hardly the sort to remain distressed for any length of time, and was all eager and bright-eyed by the time he arrived at school. He was fairly bouncing with energy as he reached the stool and sat, trying to keep from moving but not quite managing to still his feet, and was quickly pronounced a Ravenclaw.
While none of his cousins had yet entered the house, Geoffrey was hardly bothered. He seemed quite pleased with the whole arrangement, finding peers who would happily debate the virtues of particular woods for wands or brooms, and the merits of different authors - particularly little-read authors. He quickly settled into his house, making friends easily, even if he was not the loudest or most outgoing of the lot. Geoffrey had always been friendly, and this hardly changed with time. He has excelled throughout his years in school, doing well in most, if not all, of his classes, and plans to go into magical research after he leaves school. Geoffrey is excellent at memorization and analyzation, if he would be horrid at such things as duels (not in the least because hurting others seems barbaric).

Geoffrey is that nice boy you could take home and introduce to your mum. He's a gentleman to the core, and would never even think of insulting anyone - particularly not anyone of the female persuasion. He's carefully polite to everyone, and has been known to apologize a bit too much whenever he even thinks someone has taken offense - Geoffrey is hardly the sort you'll find getting into arguments. He's only ever been known to come close to arguing when one of his little sisters, cousins, or friends is being disrespected. And then? It's more an attempt at a stern lecture. While Geoffrey certaintly couldn't be classified as a 'coward' - he'd throw himself in front of a bus for any of his younger sisters, and even a stranger, thanks very much - he's by no means a loud and outgoing sort of person. He prefers smaller groups to huge crowds, and likes pleasant conversation more than arguments. He's been known to participate in debates, but in a purely Ravenclaw sort of way - Geoffrey likes to play devil's advocate from time to time, and usually debates ideas just for the sake of furthering knowledge, and learning other points of view.
Geoffrey can be a bit too helpful. He goes out of his way to offer assistance to anyone who even looks like they might be distressed, and he'd give away the clothes on his back if he thought it'd help. If he thinks someone needs help, he's not likely to listen to 'no', either - and that's the only time the word 'no' would not deter him. He simply can't stand to not help others if they require assistance. This is particularly true for the female population, and even more so for his younger sisters or cousins. Geoffrey can't even imagine leaving someone alone with their problems, even if it's absolutely none of his business.
Although Geoffrey was sorted into Ravenclaw, he is by no means a sensible sort of person. While he's highly intelligent, he rather lacks any sense of self preservation, always putting every other person in the world before himself. Geoffrey has been known to go to rather stupid lengths at the whims of his younger sisters, and never seems to regret it or hold it against them. His tendancy to sacrifice anything and everything of himself for anyone and everyone else is, quite frankly, lacking any sort of sense. One has to wonder at his sense of self-worth - and might be surprised to find he is actually fairly confident in himself, in a quiet sort of way. It's just his tendancy to care for people, and his inability to let anyone get hurt, if he could possibly stop it.
He's also been known to lack any fashion sense at all. If it's brightly coloured and tacky, Geoffrey is probably wearing it. He rarely seems to match, if ever, and his gifts are both a subject of horror and confused fascination. Only Augusta Avery seems to share his passion for rather tacky, clunky items, and she's the only one who truly seems to like his gifts as a result. He does mean well, sadly; he just doesn't seem to manage to get things right.
While he seems to most to be something of a doormat because of his overly nice nature and his willingness to do anything to help anyone, Geoffrey has been known to show a spine. It usually pops up in regards to his younger sisters or cousins. Geoffrey will stand up for family without fail, as he would for friends (and, of course, the occasional complete stranger). He also has very steadfast beliefs, despite his tendancy to debate them and everything else in the world. He's not the sort of person to hide what he believes in, even if he's not precisely the loudest sort of brave. Geoffrey believes in honesty to himself as well as others, and it's hard to imagine him lying about anything - which often has mixed results.

Virgo: In some ways, this seems almost a contradiction. A head-in-the-clouds, theoretically-oriented Ravenclaw, born under the pragmatic, materialistic sign of Taurus? However, a surprising number of philosophers (including Socrates) have been Taureans. The intellectual Taurus is gifted not only with prodigious mental capacity, but also the sensible logic, determination, and assurance to see a theorem through from start to finish. Ravenclaws born under this sign make excellent magical researchers and are gifted with the unusual capacity to write sensibly and fluently about their results and interpretations of experiments. Because Taurus is a patient sign, and good at communication, many Ravenclaw Taureans eventually end up teaching at Hogwarts.
