test scene [16 Mar 2011|09:55pm]
Ah, the socialite scene.  A complete drag as far as Robin was concerned, though her mother certainly seemed at home with them.  She was at the party somewhere, schoomzing and networking as she liked to call it.  Bette Kane may have been completely at home with that, but she'd practically been doing it since she was sixteen.  Robin, at the same age, was not quite so skilled.  Given that she was "father unknown," it was amazing the rest of the family even talked to them.  Though given cousin Kathy...

She had a lot on her mind tonight.  She'd only had a couple of outings as "Flamebird," but they'd been nearly complete disasters.  She was very sure she'd have died if her "Flamearang" hadn't curved back and hit the guy in the head.  And Mom?  Mom just treated it like a bump on the way to stardom.  No fading away in obscurity for her little girl.

She sighed.  Sometimes, having a super-hero in the family was way more trouble than it was worth.

Relatives (living/dead?): Bette Kane (mother, living), father unknown

Backstory:  Bette Kane, as most people know, got into the super-hero game for entirely the wrong reasons.  Namely, to impress the first Robin (who later became Nightwing).  When this particular goal failed, she shifted it to the broader goal of making a name for herself as a super-hero (and in particular, trying to get a new Titans West team going).  In this, she also failed.  Few people ever heard of her, and even fewer would remember.  When she wasn’t asked back following several different Titans reformations, she hung up her tights, though she did make a few attempts over the next few years for a comeback, which did include one team-up with Nightwing.

When her daughter, Robin, was born, Bette would claim to anyone who asked that Nightwing was the father, though no one took these claims very seriously, and those who knew her only as Bette Kane could be called upon to remember the time she took a stripper who had been dressed like Nightwing home one night, though no one in the two different circles of her life were ever together to compare notes on this.  The exact truth is unknown, though Bette’s own claims are highly, extremely, and perhaps completely unlikely.  Not that anyone within the super-hero circle believed her in the first place.

From almost as soon as she could walk, Bette was training and pushing Robin, always trying to get her to be the best possible.  When she turned sixteen, Bette presented her with a Flamebird costume and sent her out into the world of crime fighting, working behind the scenes as her publicity manager.

The thing of it is, in spite of her overbearing mother and rookie nature, Robin’s not that bad of a crime fighter.  And she just might get better, if she manages to survive.  So far, her victories have owed as much to luck as skill.  She may not have all the survival skills truly necessary for someone in that line of work yet, but one day, she might do pretty well.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?:  definitely with some kind of daytime gothamite splash.  Which should hopefully get some bat-type attention.
What are you planning to do with this character?: See what happens when you dump a basically happy and inexperienced person into bat-type scenarios.  which should lead to some interesting team-ups/conflicts with the other bat-people.
What do you want to see happen with this character?: mature up some, become a better crime fighter, while still retaining some sense of bright and wonder.  I also wouldn't say no to a Nightwing to team up with.  ;-)
