…APPEARANCE;

Flora is bang on average height for a British female. Ordinarily she doesn't like to blend in, but with this, she is content. For reasons that will later become clear, she wants to look attractive, but in a conventional manner. Standing out for an unconventional reason is simply not acceptable as it won't help her future.

She is sturdier and healthier than she actually looks, as one older boy found in her first year when he tried to shoulder-barge her in a corridor. Flora didn't budge an inch and he went flying, looking surprised. She has a steely inner core, physically and emotionally, and despite the bitter whispers from certain girls about how she might snap if a boy touched her, Flora is tough. She doesn't exactly eat much, though, which is probably where rumours of an eating disorder started from. When one of her enemies suggested she didn't eat much on purpose, Flora made the girl cry by saying she'd rather eat the way she did than by shovelling so much food down her mouth that thin-ness would result from involuntary purging. No-one ever broached the subject with her again.

Her eyes are a deep and clear colour, but this means that the occasional sneering or cruel expression show through all the more. Flora keeps this expressions under wraps, though, preferring the icy or calmly neutral look where possible. Her true emotions are not for the world at large to see.

She has a thin, pale scar running across her right knee, the only physical sign that Dark Magic has been practiced in her family. Aged eight, she was watching her older brother, Julius, practice curses in the vault of the family manor. Distracted by his frustration in not properly completing the Imperius curse, he let out the entrail-expelling hex in annoyance. Realising immediately what he'd done, he dived on Flora and pushed her to the floor, the blue light zooming just over their heads after it rebounded from the wall. Flora badly hurt her knee in the fall, although it no longer causes her pain.

Her clothes are demure but nontheless pretty, as she wishes to catch the eye of the boys at Hogwarts - but only the suitable, pureblooded young men of course. She wishes to use her physical charms for the right reason - to get a husband, not to be looked at like some common slut. She never wears clothes that are very casual like jeans or t-shirts - trousers and blouses are as casual as she gets. At society events away from school, she adores wearing the beautiful handmade gowns that probably cost more than her Muggleborn fellow students' monthly rent.
…PERSONALITY;

LIKES: Being feared, revenge, being admired, expensive wine, expensive chocolate, pureblood culture.
DISLIKES: Blood and guts, Muggles, dirt and sweat, heavy food, crass behaviour.

STRENGTHS: Self-belief, keeping her opinions to herself, etiquette, subtlety, ego-boosting.
WEAKNESSES: Laziness, single-mindedness, vicious tendencies (she could be an excellent bully if she put in the effort to be).

MIRROR OF ERISED: Inheriting the Carrow manor in Devizes from her father, co-inheriting property with her husband, being surrounded by lots of perfectly groomed children (with a male first-born).

PATRONUS: She cannot cast one, having never tried. Her family support the aims of the Dark Lord, she has nothing to fear from Dementors.

BOGGART: Herself, turfed into the street in rags.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Most people's first impressions of Flora depend on what they know about her beforehand. With no prior knowledge whatsoever, they would think that she is pretty, and probably that she seems quite nice and polite, if a little introverted. Those who know the Carrow name will recognise her inherited features - the somewhat haughty look when presented with something unpleasant, for instance, or the inherent self confidence with which every member of the family carries themselves.

As a family member, she is warmer and more relaxed, with a genuine love for those who protect and encourage her. She does, however, wish that the more politically vocal members of the family would sometimes be more subtle, as she worries terribly for their safety and has no wish for any of them to be persecuted for being anti-Potter.

As a friend - and she has few who are true - she is perfectly happy to do favours when enough trust has been earned to indicate that she will be able to call on them in return. It takes a lot to earn her trust, but even so, there are few people who she truly opens up to, and hopes that one day, when the political climate stabilises, she will not be so suspicious as to what someone is really thinking.

As a girlfriend, she is non-existant for she one day hopes to be a wife, and she refuses to give away anything that will harm her reputation. She wants to be a good, respectable pureblood wife, and until then she will only go as far as dating pureblood boys from families who are not blood traitors. Slytherins, preferably, though Ravenclaws would also be acceptable. When she is married, she will be a loyal and devoted wife who will do whatever her husband asks, though if she proves her worth and provides him with children, she isn't above using that fact as leverage to get what she wants.
ASTROLOGY;

HOUSE: Slytherin... This combination of sun sign and House ought to be nicknamed "The Magical Corps of Diplomats." Slytherins born under this sign are poised, polished, suave, well read, well bred, and excruciatingly polite and correct in everything they do - the perfect gentry of the magical world. Never a bully or a bravo here! No, these Slytherins would say "I despise you and think you are worthless scum" and make it sound like "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways..." They are discreet, sympathetic, easy to talk to, and know how to put people at ease. This can, of course, be a wonderful asset in espionage (the flip side of diplomacy!) and these Slytherins are more than capable of hiding their true feelings in order to get information or befriend a rival. Because they need to act in partnership with others and hate to be alone, they are rarely decision makers, and must be careful who they seek to befriend, lest they be led astray into the wrong crowd. Slytherin Libras also ought to marry into money if they don't have much of their own, for their love of luxury and culture can make for extremely high maintenance expenses.

No house could suit Flora more than Slytherin. She carries herself with the poise and breeding required for the pureblooded, society Slytherin, and can contentedly carry on a conversation about classical art, literature or history long after when less well-educated classmates start scratching their heads in bemusement. She loves showing it off, too, and has a love of the self-indulgent lifestyle into which she was born. While she doesn't openly brag about her upbringing or intelligence, Flora does make it clear with the odd reference here and there that she is not the average Hogwarts student, and considers such matters as raucous parties beneath her, preferring more civilised occasions. She never opens hostilities, though, and even most of her social enemies would admit that she doesn't willingly give them ammunition to use against her - she is too cunning for that. Those who are naive and innocent may well find themselves unawares and give away information she may use later, without even realising it. She really would make a good spy, for she is two-faced enough to present whatever image the authorities want to hear.

SECONDARY HOUSE: Ravenclaw... All Ravenclaws are intellectual, but Ravenclaw Libras have their heads in the clouds more than most (Pisces Ravenclaws may have them beat, but not by much). They are romantic and idealistic, and prefer to live in the world of pure theory rather than in the messy world of action. While social and pleasant, they are still quiet and shy, and rarely make the first move when in a group of people. In the classroom, they tend to wait to be called on, or raise their hands when they are sure that no one else knows the answer, but they do tend to be the teacher's pet on a fairly regular basis. It's hard to hate them for this, because they are so pleasant to everybody. Ravenclaw Libras are the most speculative (and indecisive) of all Libras, because they have the intellectual capacity to explore all ramifications of every action and reaction.

Flora is generally reticent - although she is by no means awkward speaking in front of others - mostly because she would rather see what others will do first, also due to her tendency towards laziness, if she can get away with it. Few of the Hogwarts Professors stir her enough to change that. She would rather close her eyes and imagine herself fitting into her perfect future than deal with the dull, day to day reality of the mostly pathetic teenagers with whom she shares a school.
…RELATIONSHIPS;

Mother: Natalie Gaia Selwyn, 38, formerly of Slytherin. Natalie is someone to whom her daughter looks up very much, mostly for achieving all that is expected of a pureblood wife and mother, despite not having a marriage arranged until she was almost of age. She seeks her mother's approval greatly in terms of moral matters.

Father: Arcturus Hyperion Carrow, 38, formerly of Slytherin. Flora is sometimes a little scared of her father. Like her, her keeps his emotions firmly under lock and key and he is a hard person to read - though the anger he demonstrated towards Julius after her accident showed his daughter just what he is capable of. He does not carry the Mark, as he is not as politically active as the rest of the family, though Flora admires this as he does not have to use the Mark as evidence of his beliefs - he is perfectly capable of expressing them on his own, when he wishes to.

Brother: Reginald Ares Carrow, 18, formerly of Slytherin house - Deceased The son and heir of this line of the Carrow family, Flora often followed him around the house in order to see just what someone in this position does. He was not the best teacher, however, being the least magically gifted of his siblings and the most socially inept. Flora has since decided that while she would like to marry the first son and heir of another family, she would rather have someone who can protect her and her children - not someone like her brother, whom she began to despise for his sheer incompetence and open display of bitterness.

Sister: Hestia [[?]] Carrow, [[?]], Slytherin house - TBC if/when the character is picked up in game.

Uncle: Amycus Carrow, [[?]], formerly of Slytherin house - TBC if/when the character is picked up in game.

Aunt: Alecto Carrow, 42, formerly of Slytherin house. Flora looks up to certain parts of her Aunt Alecto's personality - she is clearly bold and unafraid to do what she feels to be right, and is passionate in a way that Flora feels she never could be. She does worry for her aunt's safety, though, and if she could say one thing to her without fear of reprisals, it would be to tone it down in public. Flora intends to uphold the traditional pureblood beliefs in her own home, but in public to appear neutral and perhaps even pretend to support the Ministry's outcomes - whatever will keep her and her family alive and in their apprpriate position. She sometimes wishes her aunt had done the same, and hopes that the Malfoys will be a good influence on her - they lasted long enough as upstanding members of society after the Dark Lord fell the first time.

Friends: Most Slytherins, purebloods, children of Death Eaters, those used to high society especially.

Enemies: Most Gryffindors, the pro-Potter lobby (how attention seeking and self righteous they are!), students less bright than her.
…HISTORY;
Flora Aglaia Carrow's birth came as more of a joy to her mother than her father. Although his wife had already given him an heir, Arcturus Carrow had been hoping for a spare before the distraction of daughters came along. However, it was not long before he became enchanted by the tiny baby girl, with whom he became much closer than with her brother.

Arcturus Carrow was a fifth year Slytherin when he first began to chat on a regular basis with Natalie Selwyn, a girl the same age in his own house. The first discussion occurred when they had been part of a large group in the common room, bemoaning the lack of what they saw as 'a half decent DADA teacher', one who would teach more about what they were facing rather than how to defend themselves. When the next Hogsmeade weekend came along, he asked for her to accompany him, and the young couple officially began courting. Almost a year later, just before the pair returned to Hogwarts for sixth year during which they would both turn of age, the match was approved by both families, and they returned to school as a betrothed couple. A month after completing their education they were wed in the grounds of the Carrow family home. It was there they lived, in a wing of their own, even after Julius' birth.

By the time Flora came along, Julius was two and Arcturus and Natalie had taken over the family property in Devizes, Wiltshire. In accordance with traditional pureblooded beliefs, Natalie remained at home to oversee the raising of the children (although the grunt work was naturally done by nannies and house elves) whilst Arcturus continued his job as one of the Ministry of Magic's Accidental Magic Reversal Squad. Chiefly, he was an Obliviator, although his talents were as such that he was often called upon to assist in other areas also. When Hestia arrived also, she was brought up along with Flora, where the little girls began their education early. This was not the education typical of a small child, for instance, learning how to read and write (although these were skills instilled in them very early). As young women from a long pureblood line, they were taught about what would be required from them in the future. As well as long lessons in cultural subjects such as music (Flora's specialty was the wizarding composer, Sangfort), the rigid rules of high society etiquette and manners were drilled into them, along with the expectation that they would one day marry and raise similar families of their own. Their mother never specifically referred to the ideal that Muggles and Muggleborns were inferior, but these were values that the children picked up nontheless. They knew that they were different to people who did not possess magical ability, and they could not lived in such a stilted, rarefied environment such as theirs without somehow absorbing the fact that everyone they knew was pureblood, even down to the human housemaids. This, Flora's young mind concluded, had to be for a reason.

Arcturus Carrow, however, was different. His siblings, Alecto and Amycus, were both fully fledged Death Eaters, and while he did not bear the mark, he wished to blend in and be a subversive influence on the unacceptably pro-Muggle wizarding society that developed after Voldemort's fall. His children often heard him say things like "we need to protect ourselves" and make reference to the Muggles who killed witches and wizards during the witch trials popular in previous centuries in England. One of Flora's vivid childhood memories is of a letter in her father's library, an artefect from the early 17th century. It was a letter to one of his ancestors, describing the executions in excruciating details. It had only been a falsely accused Muggle who was killed, so this was not considered important, but the disgust hit Flora in waves, almost as if she could feel the pain of flames on her own flesh. Arcturus was very satisfied that his oldest daughter was beginning to understand the threat posed by Muggles.

Three years after this incident, it was Julius' turn to go to Hogwarts. In preparation for his entry into a world where he would be forced to mix with his inferiors, Arcturus began to teach him magic - some of it very Dark - to boost his defences and attack and give him an advantage over the interlopers. He hoped that his heir would demonstrate skills at least level with his own at the similar age, but Julius' failure to complete many of them was a great disappointment to him. After lessons where he performed particularly poorly, he occasionally locked his son into the crypt, only letting him out after several hours' chance to practice. It was on one of these days, a mere week before Julius was due to catch the Hogwarts Express for the first time, that he forgot to lock the door, storming out in temper. Flora snuck in to watch, and the aforementioned accident occurred. Unfortunately for Julius, Arcturus had already begun to favour Flora over his eldest child, and he was enraged. Unwilling to even look at him, never mind touch him, he punished Julius with a rather nasty stinging hex and shut him in his room for days, allowing a single meal a day to be delivered to him by the house elf who looked after the children.

Her brother's absence led to a peaceful period in the house for Flora. She spent several evenings snuggled on the settee in the library with her father, listening to his stories about brave and noble wizards who fought for the advancement of the purebloods, presenting them as a put-upon minority. She was sad to leave the Carrow manor for her own first time at Hogwarts, although she was excited about the other young witches and wizards she would meet from similar backgrounds to hers. She had also had magic lessons with her father, and been much more successful than her sibling had been. Perfectly confident in her own ability, she became a little lazy in her studies, although she still coasted through the more practical classes.

As expected, she was sorted into Slytherin almost immediately. She noted with interest that Julius had not been lying when he talked of their family's house's rivalry with the scarlet clad Gryffindors - a few of them even gossiped when they heard her name and where she had gone. This seemed typical of a house that was home to Harry Potter, however, and with the encouragement of her elders she shrugged it off. She knew she was better than the boy who had caused such a fuss the previous year. She found her own first year very exciting, however, almost breathlessly so, as the Chamber of Secrets was opened and all the Muggleborns in school were in fear of their lives. Flora had never been so smug about her pure blood, and was one of a group of Slytherin girls who particularly enjoyed acting as though the whole thing was no big deal. Second year passed fairly quietly, the business with Sirius Black not worrying her at all - not if he was a known blood purist, anyway.

In her third year, Flora was one of the students who gleefully wore a Support Cedric Diggory badge during the Triwizard tournament, and although she had never met the Dark Lord and knew just barely that her aunt and uncle were two of his most fervent supporters, she was pleased when she heard, through her family, that he had returned. She was aware that even several blood purist members of the family circle were scared of him, but she was gladder that the Muggleborns and Blood Traitors who had been so rude and disrespectful were now terrified.

She was in her element during her fourth year when Professor Umbridge turned up at Hogwarts, knowing the woman from her father's anecdotes from the Ministry. At last, she felt, there was a teacher, and eventually Headmistress, who was willing to put the foolish pro-Potter students in their place. She eagerly joined the Inquisitorial Squad when invited to do so, but was annoyed to discover that this made her a victim of the Gryffindors yet again. Some small kid she didn't know hexed her so hard after she removed points from him (for giving cheek to Professor Umbridge) that her skin felt as though it was on fire all over. She spent a week in the hospital wing having cooling charms and potions applied, and was eventually allowed back to class when the burns went down. She later found out that said kid was a Muggleborn, and took great delight for doubly removing points from him again when she next encountered him in a corridor. Sneakily hitting him with a burning hex of her own when he wasn't looking, she walked off smugly, having had her revenge. The boy never bothered her again, although she was sad to see Professor Umbridge leave the school at the end of the year.

Fifth year turned out to be quiet, up until the very end. Flora had spent much of the year ignoring teachers who pleaded with her to work harder, saying she had such potential to do well, but the 16 year old girl was complacent and somewhat lazy. If her goal following leaving school was to marry well and have children, what use would there be for magic? She would have servants to do it for her. She never stated this to Professor Snape in her careers interview, but she implied it to others in her common room when the career information leaflets were ritually left there. Around this time, she became suspicious of her brother Julius' behaviour. He was becoming quiet and withdrawn, and avoided her whenever she approached him to talk. Two days after the funeral of Albus Dumbledore - an event Flora had only attended under her father's duress, for the sake of appearances (she was not attached to the former Head) - Julius was found dead on the steps of the war memorial in the centre of Devizes. The word put out to Muggles in the area was that he had been drunk and died of alcohol poisoning, celebrating the completion of his education - a a mere assumption as they had found no signs of death on him. The small amount of whisky in his system was nowhere near enough to kill, yet as a reason it was snatched gratefully, as the local police did not wish to be blamed for the escape of a murderer and the inability to solve such a very strange crime. In reality, Julius had duelled with a fellow Hogwarts graduate from the local area, a Muggleborn with whom he had had a long running rivalry in school. For once, Julius had not started the fight. It turned out that he had an undiagonosed heart condition, and the stunning spell to the chest killed him almost immediately. Despite his growing estrangement from the rest of the family, due to his disappointment as an heir, the family were devastated and Flora's resentment of Muggleborns grew.

Under her father's instructions the day after the funeral, Flora resentfully agreed to keep her beliefs to herself. He desired to protect his daughters even more, now they were all he had left, and Flora began to accept that it was more important than ever to pretend to blend in with the rest of wizarding society. Resentment burned within her, though, and she knew that one day, when an opportunity presented itself, her revenge would be great.
…FIRST PERSON;

It has been a week now since we laid Julius to rest. I miss him more than words can say, despite the fact that we had begun to grow apart. He was my brother, and I will remember him always.

Private to: Aunt Alecto, Uncle Amycus
Father wishes me to learn Occlumency. I believe he suspects that the pro-Potter contingent of the teaching staff may try to use it against those of our kind to see what we know. Do you agree? The last thing I would wish to do is give any secret away, although I am not aware of any.
…THIRD PERSON;

Flora sat stock still in her chair before the mirror, her eyes closed and head tilted back as the housemaid brushed her hair. She could have called for one of the house elves to dress her for tonight, but they were odd little creatures, and this girl had a fine touch when it came to styling her mistress. The position she was in must have looked odd, but this was how Flora appeared when relaxed. Still, silent, wallowing in the indulgence she enjoyed when being pampered for the ball she was due to attend that evening.

A minute or so later, with the aid of a hairbrush and the wand of the maid - a girl named Maisie from a pureblood family in the village - the eldest Carrow daughter was finally ready. Running her long fingers over the black choker that sat across her throat, Flora admired her reflection and purred a quiet "thank you" to Maisie, giving her a gentle nod of dismissal. She knew that not all purebloods would treat their servants with even this small level of kindness and politeness, but Flora was her mother's daughter in this manner. Natalie Selwyn had taught her girls that the lower orders can be bought with kindness, for it is something they do not expect. Having their loyalty is much better than not when one requires their service, and given the political position occupied by the senior members of the Carrow family, retaining the devotion of one's servants was very much a plus.

Flora stood, smoothing out the dark wine-red material of her taffeta gown. She thought of the purpose of the party tonight, to which all of the pureblood families considered worthy by her father had been invited, including, even, some from Europe. Ostensibly, the ball was to be held in memory of her brother, Julius, killed by a mudblood scumbag from the town. Ever the negotiator, however, Arcturus Carrow intended to observe each of his daughters in their interactions with young men. Not only would he be carefully watching the results of the training that their mother had given them over the years, but as he had told Flora in his study the previous week, this was the commencement of his search for their future husbands - a search he was taking most seriously, now they were his only children.

So, the pressure was on, yet Flora was in her element. Checking her appearance one more time, she gave herself a slow and secret smile in the mirror and winked. In a rustle of heavy and expensive cloth, she was gone, leaving only the scent of her perfume behind.
