Name: Karen Bundy
Physical characteristics: Tall and slender, with long blonde hair and brown eyes. Has an athletic but not overly muscley build.
Karen is one of those perceived to be something of an oxymoron - a Slytherin halfblood. However, she is fiercely proud of her heritage - on both sides - and she will immediately leap to the defence of those like her, or even the Muggleborn students, of any house. She firmly believes that one doesn't have to be crass and a bitch, just because you wear silver and green.
With her birthday falling midway through the year, Karen is sixteen years old, but is sometimes mistaken for a younger girl, owing to her excitable nature and seemingly endless enthusiasm, mainly for Quidditch. Her brother, Jamie, turned eleven a couple of months after she turned sixteen, and will be joining her at Hogwarts. Even though he can be annoying at times, she adores him and dotes upon him any chance she gets.
Her wizard father works in the Department of Magical Games and Sports, where he is in charge of ensuring that Quidditch teams follow Magical Law, in particular those rules regarding Muggles and remaining unseen. It is from him that Karen inherited her love of the game, although his particular talent lay as a Beater. Karen prefers Chasing herself, but sometimes plays Keeper for a team in her local league. As Slytherin rarely seems to give females an opportunity to show what they are made of, she sees it as the only way to a professional Quidditch career.
Karen is fairly tall by the standards of the average woman, and her long arms and legs prove an advantage in her chosen hobby, lending an extra sense of athleticism to her lean body. Typically blonde haired and blue eyed, she is considered pretty by most, but is often too busy with Quidditch practice or attempting to pull up her grades to notice when boys like her.
Unlike many of her fellow students, Karen believed Harry Potter when he said that Voldemort had returned, and as a half-blood, she fears for her family's safety. She might not be especially brilliant academically, but she is fiercely protective of those she loves - and her loyalty is to them and to herself, not her house. Ironically, this and her ambition to play Pro Quidditch is what caused the Sorting Hat to place her in Slytherin as opposed to Hufflepuff, its other choice.
Karen is much more of a negotiator than an aggressor - her love for her family means she would prefer to ensure safety by more reasonable means. Her Slytherin sense of cunning means she is a formidable ally when it comes to persuasion. However, if you get her cornered, she will fight like a dog till the very end. She would literally rather die than join the Death Eaters, and would join the Order - like her father - if only she would be asked! She is something of a natural spy, though, given both her seeming innocence and cunning, and has been known to report to her father when her fellow Slytherins have reported pro-Voldemort behaviour. She would like to do something for the Order on a full time basis.
Umbridge is mad if she thinks that banning players the way she did is going to do much more than cause resentment. And you know what? I LOVE my Quidditch, and I would love for Slytherin to win the cup (well, obviously), but in these circumstances? It just wouldn't be fun. Let all the teams play at their full strengths, for crying out loud, or there's really not much point in playing at all.
Interesting to see that Professor Hagrid is back at last, I wonder where he's been? I bet that Umbridge won't be too fond of him. We all know what she's like with regards to people who are half -magical and half something else. Like me, come to think of it. Which makes me wonder why she's STILL sucking up about being related to the Selwyns who are related to the Bundys (DEFINITELY complete nonsense).
All in all, it's been a trying start to November...
