Tamagotchi P2 (American)
One of the very first Tamagotchis. This is a generation 2. Meaning there was one other before it. The first generation was the first to come out. I also have a Japanese p1. I've managed to get almost every character on the P2. Apparently, there are two versions of the Japanese P2, known as "type 1" and "type 2". Type 1 appears to have most of the same characters as the American version and type 2 apparently has a special characters known as "Nyantchi" which is also found as a secret character on the American V2. You can tell the difference between the type 1 and type 2 because type 1 has a blue background in the packaging and type 2 has a red background in the packaging. Both the Japanese P2's have rice for food instead of a hamburger. From what I've seen there isn't much difference beyond this. Also, the eggs on the Japanese P2's are different from each other. I give the P2 a 9 out of 10 just like the P1.

Here are some pictures of the ones I currently own:

I got my Generation 2 for Christmas when they first came out. I'm guessing it was probably for about $10-12. Now you can find them running for about $30-200. I got the European version for very cheap at only $20, but they usually go for way more now. Auctions are usually the cheaper ones but I would hold out for a cheap "BUY IT NOW" deal if you can :) If you see one for over $40 then do not bother buying it unless it is a Special Edition or something because that seller is most likely a rip-off. These are not terribly rare so they should not be expensive.

Tamagotchi P1
This is the very first virtual pet to ever come out :D It is a Generation 1 Tamagotchi. After that... well you know what happened :D Tamagotchis became one of the biggest fads in many different countries and Bandai has inspired other Toy companies to make their own versions of virtual pets. I can't believe I didn't get this one until just recently. So far the buttons are really easy to push, response time is good and the characters are cute. I'm very proud to own this one! I give it a 9 out of 10 since it is the original, but lacking some of the interesting features that other virtual pets at the time had.

Here are some pictures of the Japanese one I currently own:

Here is a picture of the European version I have:

I also have the 1997 Hong Kong Special Edition:

price

I just got mine for about $15 on eBay. Japanese ones are $30-50ish, and American ones have gone up to around $30-200ish or more depending on the design. The Hong Kong Special edition was about $50, and I got the European version for very cheap at only $20 even though they usually go for way more. If you are familiar with how Tamagotchis work, I would recommend getting a Japanese one because not only are they cheaper, they usually have cuter designs in my opinion :)

Digimon (American version 1)
This virtual pet came out around the time of the first generation tamagotchis. It is also by Bandai. It is a fighting Tamagotchi and connects manually to other digimons to gain fighting power. There is also a show called Digimon which has the same characters as this virtual pet and was based on the virtual pet! I managed to get two around the time the vintage virtual pets were going out of style, but now they are very rare. I give this virtual pet an 8 out of 10 for having a unique connection concept and cute characters, but other than that its not too much more of an interesting pet than a regular vintage Tamagotchi and it doesn't have a "pause" feature, so I would not suggest that it is a "must have" for one's collection unless you're just really into Digimon :)

Here are some pictures of the ones I currently own:

price

About a year after these came out I got two of them for my birthday and they were only $5 because they were on sale. Now they are super expensive. Not entirely certain why, but recently Digimons have shot up in price drastically. The Japanese ones run in the $60-80 range, and the American versions run in the $100-270 range. There are actually tons more Digimon available on eBay than at any other time I've seen them, so I do not understand why the price is so high :/ Make sure you know what you're doing before buying these virtual pets.

Tamagotchi Angel
The Angel Tamagotchi is one of the easier Tamas to take care of. It is said that it was made for all the children who were sad after their regular Tamagotchis died. They decided to make another version with the angel version so that the kids wouldn't feel bad. When you are done taking care of this Tamagotchi it goes back to heaven. It also has a sound and touch screen feature. Sometimes when your angel is eating a snack, a bat will come and try to steal the candy. If you tap the screen the bat will be scared away. If you do not tap the screen in time the bat will steal the candy and the training meter will go down. Tapping the screen also serves to train your angel by bringing your angel back when it decides to go on a walk and disappears from the screen or when it appears disoriented with stars floating around it. I give this Tamagotchi a 10 out of ten because it was way ahead of its time with the touch screen functions and its characters are some of the cutest, as well as having an awesomely cute shell design with cute colors, and being easy to take care of! Apparently, Bandai also made two versions of the pearl white Japanese Tamagotchi angel. The two versions vary in that one is a slightly golden tint, while the other is more of a pure white color. The Golden tinted Japanese Angelgotchi has icons similar to the American version, whereas the white tinted Japanese Angelgotchi has the same icons as both the Pink and Blue versions, which are all similar to the original P1 and P2 Tamagotchis, except in a different order. The gold tinted version has a butt with wings for the toilet icon, and the white tinted version has a picture of a duck for the toilet. The American version has the same icons as the gold tinted angel except that the butt with wings has been replaced with a toilet paper roll, which is much cuter in my opinion. The butt with wings icon can also be found as a toilet icon on the Devilgotchi.

Here are some pictures of the ones I currently own (I actually have all the colors of the American version now and I have all the colors of the Japanese INCLUDING the super rare golden version):

American Angels (yellow, white, blue, pink)

Japanese Angels (pink, white, blue, GOLD)

Here are some comparison photos so that you can see that the Gold tint does actually exist. These are from the auction that I bought the Golden Angel from:

Here are the European angels that I recently ordered. I'm still missing the yellow version, but I have the other three:

After I get the yellow Euroepan angel I'm going to stop buying angels :P

Here are some characters I've gotten.

Here are two pets that do not have packages. The white one I bought used on ebay without a package for about $10, and the other one is a damaged pink version that I accidentally broke a long time ago. It was the European version.

This is a picture of my very first angel that I accidentally put through the washing machine. It is yellow and very damaged, but still has the box.

price

Japanese Tamagotchi angels are currently running for around $30-40ish. Apparently an American Angel has become super rare or special for some reason, so they are running higher in the $80-200 range (I think $200 is kind of ridiculous...). The European angels are a bit more rare so they go for around $100-200 as well. I was lucky enough to get my European angels for $20 each :) At this point, if you don't want to spend a ton of money, I would buy a Japanese one. They are just as cute and function exactly the same, even have a couple of extra characters. They are just in Japanese. If you are familiar with how Tamagotchis work, they are not difficult to navigate.
