I'm very proud of my two girls... [26 Jan 2010|09:02pm]
It’s certainly not the first time we’ve tried to put Cara to bed without settling her to sleep first, but it is the first time that we’ve put both kids to bed at the same time, and then for them to both fall asleep in bed. Previously, Cara has gotten up after about 15 minutes and shouted for Mummy, or Amy has complained that Cara won’t be quiet.

So this is a definite first. Now I’m not so naïve to believe that it’ll happen a straight-forward as this tomorrow, but it does prove that they can do it! :o)

The Bugcast, episode 93, broadcasting live tonight... [22 Jan 2010|06:21pm]
As my fortnight off work draws to a close, we bring you episode 93 of The Bugcast which will be broadcasting live tonight from 21:00 UK time in The Bugcast Chatroom.

Now, tonight there some amazingly eclectic music, including a track from Sweden which incorporates at least 8 differing genres that you certainly wouldn’t expect to hear in the same track!

Add that to our usual cocktail of other great music and some great chat, and you have a recipe for an amazing Friday night’s entertainment. You’d be daft to miss it!

If you’re reading this and you haven’t got a clue what I’m talking about, there’s a link and a time above. Click the link at around the time :o)

Charlie... she's gone [21 Jan 2010|11:02am]
Way back on 29 March 2003, we bought a new car.

6 years and 3 months later, we’ve sold her on to the motor trade to try and salvage her. She done us proud. Mileage in: 19500, mileage out: 152000.

I really can’t complain. I am quite sad though.

Fitbug's search results are a bit bitty... [16 Jan 2010|02:13pm]

Mature what?!?
Mature what?!?
This is what I saw when I did a search for "Mature" under Non-branded foods in Fitbug. I was looking for Mature Cheddar, but wasn't sure how it would have been listed. I certainly wasn't expecting what I saw!

Click the image for a larger version, not that you'd really want to!

Poppetstown using the design of the OLPC? [15 Jan 2010|09:30am]
Is it just me, or does the laptop on Poppetstown:

look like an early version of the OLPC, with crank handle

but with some of the newer design features, such as the wireless ears?

What is a podcast? [13 Jan 2010|08:12pm]
Since I’ve been doing The Bugcast, and I’ve been telling people that I do a podcast, the most common question I get asked is... “What is a podcast?”

Thanks to the Association of Music Podcasting, this question is now fairly easy to answer.

I present to you: Podcasting Listener 101.

Enjoy :o)

Crazy wirelessness... [09 Jan 2010|11:01am]
What kind of craziness is this?!

We have 5... count them, five wireless access points within the confines of these four walls.

No Bugcast tonight, due to self-inflicted unwellness [01 Jan 2010|06:13pm]
That’s right, there will not be a show tonight, because I’m hungover and feel like poo. I got fairly whammed last night at Steph and Dave’s - good friends, good conversation, and a combination of San Miguel, champagne and gin...

Ohhh... my head did hurt this morning, and I’m not exactly back to normal today.

So, sincere apologies for your host’s lack of self-control, but by jiminy it was worth it ;o)

My Christmas present to myself... [29 Dec 2009|09:23pm]
According to their website, I last used Fitbug back in 2006. Whilst I was using it, I was really keen to keep up with it, but - as with so many things - it fell by the wayside. Actually, thinking about it, I think the subscription had expired. That might have been why I stopped using it. Anyhow, I remember that whilst I had it, it made a difference. So I have just signed up for a year of Fitbug, and am currently waiting for my Bug to arrive through the post.

Is this yet another instance of me falling into something because it has the word "bug" in the name? Well, actually no. One of the things that made Fitbug so good to use was that it only required small changes in lifestyle in order to make a difference. It works on the concept of energy in versus energy out. Using the Bug to record activity, the website to record additional activity, food intake and weight, it determines whether you're taking in more energy than you're expending. It then uses this information, once it's built up a profile of your activity and food intake, to set you targets based on what you want to achieve.

For me, weight loss is secondary to how I feel. I want to feel (and be) fit and healthy. I believe that this is a big part of making it towards that. If I lose weight along the way, then all well and good.

OLPC XO-3 concept announced... [29 Dec 2009|10:49pm]
Just over a year ago, I got our XO-1 from the US, thanks to [info]bluejena. See the posts I made about it here.

Well, it would seem that they've just announced the concept for the XO-3, which will be tablet-based.

Now, it's said that they're going to try and bring this in at under $100, and I've even seen the figure of $75 mentioned. If they decide to launch the Give One Get One scheme for this one - where I buy two laptops, I get one and a child in the developing world gets one - then I'm definitely on that bandwagon! :o)
