Bulb goes pop... [03 Apr 2010|09:12am]
Well, that was fairly scary.

I've just switched the light on in the living room, and one of the bulbs flished, pinged, and went out. Standard activity for when a bulb blows.

What I didn't expect, was for the bulb to be launched upwards out of the fitting, to land a second later on the carpet, mere millimeters from the fireplace.

Scared the crap out of me, fortunately the kids didn't really notice, and only really reacted to my own reaction.

We're now down to one bulb remaining out of three... I think I need to go to B&Q this afternoon.

The elephant in the room [21 Mar 2010|08:56pm]
At church this evening, Ian made at least 6 references to “the elephant in the room” and each time I couldn’t help but smile and be reminded that there are just one thousand, two hundred and forty-seven miles from here to Warsaw, at least on Google Maps.

Dan Lynch - The Elephant In The Room.

My daughter gives her honest, uninformed, opinion on Tofu... [06 Mar 2010|12:50pm]
So, Caroline is out shopping with [info]labgirluk, so it’s another Daddy Day - which is great! :o)

I’m cooking the kids lunch, and also preparing my own.

Amy walks in, and says, “What are you making, Daddy?”
I say, “For me, you mean?”
She says, “Yes.”
I say, “I’m just frying up some tofu and...”

She interrupts me, holds her nose, and runs away saying:

“Eurgh, smells like bum as well”

Ladies and gentlemen, my daughter: the food critic.

Parkes, NSW, July 1969.

With my own existing fascination with radio transmitters and receivers, I would have wanted to be there at the exact moment that the Parkes radio telescope picked up the images of the Apollo 11 moonwalk.
