Etymology!
Several etymologies for the name
Orpheus have been proposed. A probable suggestion is that it is derived from a hypothetical PIE verb *orbhao-, "to be deprived", from PIE *orbh-, "to put asunder, separate". Cognates would include Greek orphe, "darkness", and Greek orphanos, "fatherless, orphan", from which comes English "orphan" by way of Latin. Orpheus would therefore be semantically close to goao, "to lament, sing wildly, cast a spell", uniting his seemingly disparate roles as disappointed lover, transgressive musician and mystery-priest into a single lexical whole. The word "orphic" is defined as mystic, fascinating and entrancing, and, probably, because of the oracle of Orpheus, "orphic" can also signify "oracular".
Mellville - From a French place name meaning "bad settlement".
Travers - See
TRAVERS family page.
Harry Potter Universe Connection!
Travers is a Death Eater who murdered the family of Marlene McKinnon sometime in late July of 1980, just after the Order of the Phoenix picture was taken. He was sentenced to Azkaban for this crime, but escaped during the 1996 mass breakout. He is described as a tall, thin wizard with a crown of bushy gray hair.
In 1997 and 1998, Travers plays more of a role. He participated in the Battle over Little Whinging, pursuing Hermione Granger, disguised as Harry Potter, and Kingsley Shacklebolt, who cursed him. Travers seems to have worked in the Ministry of Magic in some capacity while it was under Lord Voldemort's control, as Dolores Umbridge believed that Mafalda Hopkirk — who was actually Hermione Granger in disguise by use of Polyjuice Potion — had been sent to record-keep for her by Travers. Thus, he may have been involved with the Muggle-Born Registration Commission.
Later, Travers and Selwyn came to Xenophilius Lovegood's home because he claimed, truthfully, that Harry Potter was there. After Harry and his friends escaped, Travers and Selwyn presumably arrested Xenophilius. He later met Hermione Granger, disguised as Bellatrix Lestrange, and went into Gringotts with her, where he expressed disdain towards Goblins. Harry placed him under the Imperius Curse to facilitate their getting into the Lestrange vault, and sent Travers off to hide.
During the Battle of Hogwarts, Travers was seen fighting Parvati Patil. After Voldemort's defeat, he was presumably killed or imprisoned in Azkaban once more.

Harry Potter WikiSongs!Standing firm on this stony ground
The wind blows hard
Pulls these clothes around
I harbor all the same worries as most
The temptations to leave or to give up the ghost
I wrestle with an outlook on life
That shifts between darkness and shadowy light
I struggle with words for fear that they'll hear
There's a beauty here I cannot deny
And bottles that tumble and crash on the stairs
Are just so many people I knew never cared
Down below on the wreck of the ship
Are a stronghold of pleasures I couldn't regret
But the baggage is swallowed up by the tide
Tell me, I've still a lot to learn
Understand, these fires never stop
Believe me, when this joke is tired of laughing
But all of the hurdles that fell in our laps
Were fuel for the fire and straw for our backs
Still the voices have stories to tell
Of the power struggles in heaven and hell
But we feel secure against such mighty dreams
- David SylvianBut you couldn’t wait
Somewhere along the road
You lost your faith
Out of despair and believing
I was gone
You gave up on my love
You gave up on us
But it was there for us,
It was there for us
I loved you all along
Orpheus
- Carly SimonSoul on fire I dared the gods
My shadow is your guide
Through the hollow and I came
You pause Follow me
Up the hill So hard So hard
To keep you from my eyes
Have to turn around
And see your face
Follow me
Come star of dawn
Come fall of night
Come follow me
I follow you through a broken dream
I've set my sail
So hard to wait
To see your face
Though I've been warned never turn around
- New York Rock & Roll EnsembleYou couldn't bring the past to life
Slipped through your hands again
Don't look back
And you mourn again
Who from us can feel your pain?
Sing a sweet song
To pass the day
Entrancing even the most harden
Convinced the highest ranking to do your bidding
And defy the serpent's curse of death
The magic you possess
The different ways they said you died
I say you died of loneliness
Sad and alone
Sunrise to sunset
They never let you have it all in this world
Our lives are bitter sweet
The serpent's seen to that
- Twelfth GateMy sadness lives down the road in a place they call "the Inside"
A woman's lips told me so between the dawn and midnight
She said every house has a ghost and I will haunt you
With every kiss you were told "this beauty is true"
Because where sadness lives the angels sine
Of all the things a tear
Can bring
Of all your beauty
And your soul
- Black Orpheussing, muse, of despair, of the fond buried fair, of the nightingale that now croons.
that quit salons for saloons,
did trade honey for ale, a lift for a wail.
These barboys, all souse and rut, preen flatter and strut,
would mount birds barely wooed by a liquor this crude,
that once did move meadows to dew,
raised the dear from dead once said:
'Wake, Fairest, and folow; make a room in your tomb for all sorrow,
eyes burn to look on you. I wont steal a gaze but borrow.
Wait fairest, dont go.
curse a berse this hollow, ill burn meter,
spin sugar, shame zeus, venus, apollo'
The gods are assps.
Drink freinds dance down your past.
Love and virtue wont last. make time with mad,
shreaking tarts.
let them rip you apart.
they can start with your heart.
- Die Hoffnung
I feel you breathing in my head
But better there if not in bed
I wash your perfume from my clothes
I don't believe that affection goes
But I don't want this heart
I don't need this blood
- The GoBetweensIf your husband knew, he'd say
That you're living in sin
Well, if grinnin' is a sin
That's the reason I'm here
Back with you, Mrs Blear
Sleep on, dear
Deep and easy, our night man is here
I'll steal your dreams for my shiny gold chain
And you'll wake with your eyes full of rain
Finding I've disappeared
I don't think of yesterday
Merely drum out the sound
But forgetting you was hard
That's why I'm back in town
And you had a loveless week
And the world's let you down
But I'll make it up somehow
There are ways, Mrs Brown
That's why I'm back in town
And the ghosts of my cigarette play
On the ceiling, and time drifts away
With the burden it bears
Remember me
I've already forgotten you
And make your beds for me
For the things we ought not to do
- The Walker BrothersTake me through Hell
For I deserve it
Take me through Hell
It's for my good
Pain is sweet
However hot you serve it
And Hell is no hotter
Than my jealous blood
