| Training lesson time |

Individual training was all well and good, but if she wanted these children ready to deal with Shaw and the Hellfire club...there'd need to be teamwork to say the least. So for this lesson, she'd taken them all outside on the grounds, where, newly set up, a section of the courtyard had been sectioned off into squares. Similar to a chess board, sans colour coding, and each square even had a small label in the same notation style as chess boards were done. A to H and 1 to 8 on the correct sides. She ushered them closer. "While we've mostly done individual training, a little teamwork and trying powers in concert certainly needs to be addressed. But today will still be largely testing your individual capabilities, just having them at the same time as others, and a dash of working in pairs. I'll explain how we'll be doing this today." "Kurt, darling, I'll start with you first," she said and beckoned him to her with an impeccably manicured hand. White nail polish, of course. "Now, we want to know your limits when it comes to your teleporting." She would not call it 'bamfing' as she'd heard it called around, standards please. "How fast, for how long, how many in a row, all very basic things. Your task to start is simple, you'll be teleporting from square to square here, we'll start off at a leisurely pace and soon work our way faster. You should have no issue with this." Emma turned away briskly and walked towards Annamarie a bit, this time beckoning her closer. "We'll be using Kurt here to test your precognition. I want you to tell me, out loud, once we start, where you predict our teleporter will land next. He won't be going to fast to start, so you should be keeping up with little issue, but I'll be having him move much faster. We want to find out how fast you can be, how accurate given certain, relatively equal, options, and perhaps this will give us some insight into your limits." But also, could she begin to predict an individual's patterns of doing things with enough observation, because that could be useful in the future. Emma indicated three white lawn chairs set up behind the squares that would've been where the white bishop, queen and king would sit in chess. "The one on the far right is yours to sit for this exercise, dear." She turned to address the class as a whole. "Straightforward exercise so far, Kurt teleports, Annamarie predicts. Now..." A slow smile spread as she looked over at her two remaining students. "Kitty. You've been progressing at being able to turn your intangibility on and off at your will but you need to be better. It needs to be on command, instant," she snapped her fingers. "Like that. The moment you think it, I want it to be. Understand? Right now it seems you can only do it well in reaction to danger, or under stress. That's not enough, but we're using it as our starting point." She indicated the board again. "To start, you will stand in the middle. Kurt, of course, will avoid teleporting on top of you naturally, but once in a while I will tell him telepathically to teleport to the square you are on. Keep on your toes, react quickly, phase through him. If not, well, you'll crash into each other I suppose. But we won't be letting that happen hmm?" Back to addressing the group as a whole. "That will be 'round 1'. Mostly individual training, but combining it. Round 2 will be more difficult and more complicated, and that's where we'll input a little teamwork." Telepathically, to Calvin. Don't worry darling, you do have a part, and you'll be instrumental for the second round I assure you. Telepathy will be needed in both rounds, but the second power I want you to use will change between them. Take the far left seat for round 1, you'll be doing the same thing as Annamarie, but voicing your results to me telepathically. I'll explain round 2 for you when it comes. "A moment for thinking your questions, please do think the particularly inane and obvious ones quietly but preferably not at all. Despite what some school teachers like to say, there is such thing as a stupid question. I expect you all to be better than that."

Do you want the top two options or just the top one? Annamarie asked as she took her seat.

Calvin nods to the instructions, moving to take his seat. Despite looking relaxed, he's actually watching Kurt and Kitty very closely. After all, their powers are what he has to work with, and anything they prove able to do, in theory, he should be able to do with enough practice.

Kurt listened intently to the instructions. Bamf (because that was what it was called) slowly so Anna Marie could predict his moves, and sometimes surprise Kitty to make her phase out. He wondered if thinking out loud which square he was aiming for would help Anna Marie, but Emma insisted no stupid thoughts. Actually the fact that he could see where he was going made this exercise less worrisome for him. As long as he didn't smush poor Kitty, of course. Hopping onto B8, for a black knight, he smiled in anticipation at the others. picword: listening carefully |

Kitty gulped. This was all new to her, and Ms. Frost still kinda scared the crap out of her. Not to mention Kurt made her kind of nervous. He seemed like a nice guy, but boy... She took her spot in the middle. Ready. I guess.picword: Worried/Hesitant |

Top two only if they're near equal. Came the thought at Annamarie as she took the white queen's chair and looked over the board like a general did her troops. Or a queen her subjects, would fit better in this case. To Calvin. Watch Kurt closer dear, you'll be trying that for the next round. One teleporter was of great use, but two...and one who could use telepathy? Even better... An almost ceremonial wave and the telepathic message goes out. Let's begin darlings. But to Kurt alone another thought was sent. On the fourth teleport dear.To be honest, this was also practice for her. Keep track of Annamarie's guesses, Calvin's in her head, dictate to Kurt when to surprise Kitty, and keep that part unpredictable as possible to the other students. Nice minor multitasking exercise, not a challenge of course, she was, well...her. But one should never get rusty with their skills.

Kurt nodded and then focused on his teleporting. Usually he kept the hang-time to a minimum to keep the brimstone smell down, but Anna Marie needed time to predict. He aimed for D1 and then winked away from his spot with a puff.

Kitty flinched when Kurt teleported, going intangible on pure reflex, long before any threat of collision.

Kurt landed precisely where he had aimed, a bit smokier than usual, and turned around to the audience. "Was it slow enough?" he burst and then remembered Frost's rule. Did it work? Did she guess right? He saw Kitty was flinching and smiled at her, reassuring that no, he didn't bamf on her this time.

Yes. Bit faster now, I want it progressively faster. Closer to Kitty on this one, farther next. Then one after on her tile. A slight smile at the girl's flinch, because good, she was going intangible. To Annamarie she didn't give any warning of Kurt being told to go faster. Because this was still a training test after all. Why make it picword: Emma Frost (bitches) |

Calvin is the very picture of concentration. He ca see the value in their gifts. Between them, they could get anywhere. Nothing, no one, nowhere off limits. So much potential. Sure, he was told to watch Kurt - and he does. But he takes it all in. He wants this. Yes, yes he does.

Annamarie smiled when her brother appeared where predicted, but that was all the time she would give herself for that. She started running the numbers for the next jump... and the next ... and the one after that, Next one's an even chance F3/F6, then A1, then...

Okay, okay, deep breaths. This was going okay. No collisions yet. And she didn't fall through the floor when she phased either. That was good. Deeeep breaths.

He reappeared on F6, looked about and then reappeared on A1. Three bamfs in a row meant it was time to hassle Kitty. But in a nice way, this was a lesson. So he appeared above her in a pounce, a yard above her just to give a little warning. 'Bamf from above!'

Emma sat on her throne, legs crossed and chin in her hand as she surveyed all this thoughtfully. The slightest nods in response to Annamarie when she sent her guesses along, but her eyes never left the playing field. Not that she wasn't paying attention to everything, she really was. From Calvin's eager observations of the others, to Annamarie's processing of the numbers, Kitty's nervous mind and Kurt's....teleporting (why oh why did that boy insist on the term bamfing?). Perfect, it was working. She had the girl going intangible with some control over it, that was a significant step. Little less vocalizing next time, but good. Remember that feeling of turning it on and try to replicate it again. To Kurt. Good darling, now one of your choice then back to Kitty on the next. Give the girl a slight breather but straight back to testing her just when she thought she had a few more jumps before needing to deal with it again. While her gaze doesn't move, and her expression doesn't change from that regal instructor overlooking things look, the voice in Calvin's head is almost confiding. Tell me darling, I know you're a fast learner, do you think come round 2 you could try...two powers? I can help make one easier, but you pick up things quickly from what I've seen. I wouldn't suggest it if I didn't think you could manage. His file indicated he needed motivation, not being put down. It was a bit of an effort for her to do the whole complimenting thing much, too many years of how her father did things clashing with that, but...he's been in the same situation as her. A father putting him down, telling him he wasn't good enough, so perhaps having someone tell him they did think he could manage wasn't a bad idea. She knew she'd have appreciated it years ago.

She has the right tack down for dealing with Calvin. Hot woman, combined with authority figure telling him he can do things - especially things he wants to do. These powers - so much potential. Of course he can do two of them. Of course. Which ones?"

Kurt beamed that Anna Marie had gotten his positions correctly. Everyone was taking a breather, so he turned around in his crouch to look at the flinching Kitty. "That vas great, Kitty, you phased before I even got close!" He smiled as well, tail flicking around earnestly. When everyone was ready for round two, he jumped to D4 and took less of a pause before reappearing behind Kitty in her square.

Telepathy along with teleportation She responds, before pursing her lips with displeasure and sighing inwardly at 'Jimminy'. Jimminy and Bamfing. Why oh why did they insist on using nonsensical words? There were more than enough ones in the english language that one didn't need to resort to nonsense such as 'Jimminy'. She snapped for attention and didn't bother projecting her voice, why when she could just speak directly into their minds. You've all gotten the hang of the process, good. Second round we're changing it up. Calvin here will be joining you on the board. Both he and Kurt will teleport about at random, while communicating with each other telepathically about it. I don't want many mid-air mishaps happening. The challenge is to teleport and coordinate with each other. You'll both continue surprising Kitty, individually or both at once. But /coordinate/.Now girls, while they'll be a team working together, you will too. Annamarie, continue predicting both boys' movements to me. But if your predictions say one or more of them are about to surprise Kitty, you warn her. Kitty darling, you'll have forewarning, so we'll be testing to see if you can control your phasing more without the panic trigger. Though don't let your guard down, prediction is only that sometimes...prediction.Oh, and none of this Jimminy nonsense. You have a greater vocabulary than that, if not, our next lessons I will make sure you all do. Class darlings, class. Let's all have some. Now, let's continue.

Excellent! It wasn't intentionally broadcast, but the thought is loud. Two powers, and getting to test the applications of making them work together. His teleportation isn't nearly as instinctive as Kurt's - and as such, his first thoughts are pretty easy to predict. In the process of trying to get the hang of it, he settles for linking to Kurt, letting him pick the pair of coordinates, and running with whatever the more natural teleporter comes up with.

He was still overlapping? He looked down with a start. "Whoops! Sorry," he added and shuffled so his leg was out of her back. Frost started explaining and Kurt turned to listen to the new rules. Calvin was going to copy his powers too and communicate to keep them from crashing into each other, and Anna Marie was going to warn Kitty to their shenanigans. A link appeared in his mind and there was... a feedback of excitement which he assumed was Calvin. Grinning, he planned on popping C6 and Calvin could mirror to F3, just to test before they started teleporting around.

Annamarie tries to focus to share with Ms Frost and Kitty both, but only the both of them. Focus is important there. Kurt at C6. Calvin at F2/F3/F4 -- Ms Frost, what's the policy on saying damn? Because all I get is an even chance there.

Kitty took a deep breath to steady herself. Okay, nothing to worry about. Just two teleporters instead of one. Easy. Just increased risk of collision and/or molecular fusion.
