Individual training was all well and good, but if she wanted these children ready to deal with Shaw and the Hellfire club...there'd need to be teamwork to say the least. So for this lesson, she'd taken them all outside on the grounds, where, newly set up, a section of the courtyard had been sectioned off into squares. Similar to a chess board, sans colour coding, and each square even had a small label in the same notation style as chess boards were done. A to H and 1 to 8 on the correct sides. She ushered them closer. "While we've mostly done individual training, a little teamwork and trying powers in concert certainly needs to be addressed. But today will still be largely testing your individual capabilities, just having them at the same time as others, and a dash of working in pairs. I'll explain how we'll be doing this today." "Kurt, darling, I'll start with you first," she said and beckoned him to her with an impeccably manicured hand. White nail polish, of course. "Now, we want to know your limits when it comes to your teleporting." She would not call it 'bamfing' as she'd heard it called around, standards please. "How fast, for how long, how many in a row, all very basic things. Your task to start is simple, you'll be teleporting from square to square here, we'll start off at a leisurely pace and soon work our way faster. You should have no issue with this." Emma turned away briskly and walked towards Annamarie a bit, this time beckoning her closer. "We'll be using Kurt here to test your precognition. I want you to tell me, out loud, once we start, where you predict our teleporter will land next. He won't be going to fast to start, so you should be keeping up with little issue, but I'll be having him move much faster. We want to find out how fast you can be, how accurate given certain, relatively equal, options, and perhaps this will give us some insight into your limits." But also, could she begin to predict an individual's patterns of doing things with enough observation, because that could be useful in the future. Emma indicated three white lawn chairs set up behind the squares that would've been where the white bishop, queen and king would sit in chess. "The one on the far right is yours to sit for this exercise, dear." She turned to address the class as a whole. "Straightforward exercise so far, Kurt teleports, Annamarie predicts. Now..." A slow smile spread as she looked over at her two remaining students. "Kitty. You've been progressing at being able to turn your intangibility on and off at your will but you need to be better. It needs to be on command, instant," she snapped her fingers. "Like that. The moment you think it, I want it to be. Understand? Right now it seems you can only do it well in reaction to danger, or under stress. That's not enough, but we're using it as our starting point." She indicated the board again. "To start, you will stand in the middle. Kurt, of course, will avoid teleporting on top of you naturally, but once in a while I will tell him telepathically to teleport to the square you are on. Keep on your toes, react quickly, phase through him. If not, well, you'll crash into each other I suppose. But we won't be letting that happen hmm?" Back to addressing the group as a whole. "That will be 'round 1'. Mostly individual training, but combining it. Round 2 will be more difficult and more complicated, and that's where we'll input a little teamwork." Telepathically, to Calvin. Don't worry darling, you do have a part, and you'll be instrumental for the second round I assure you. Telepathy will be needed in both rounds, but the second power I want you to use will change between them. Take the far left seat for round 1, you'll be doing the same thing as Annamarie, but voicing your results to me telepathically. I'll explain round 2 for you when it comes. "A moment for thinking your questions, please do think the particularly inane and obvious ones quietly but preferably not at all. Despite what some school teachers like to say, there is such thing as a stupid question. I expect you all to be better than that."

He was still overlapping? He looked down with a start. "Whoops! Sorry," he added and shuffled so his leg was out of her back. Frost started explaining and Kurt turned to listen to the new rules. Calvin was going to copy his powers too and communicate to keep them from crashing into each other, and Anna Marie was going to warn Kitty to their shenanigans. A link appeared in his mind and there was... a feedback of excitement which he assumed was Calvin. Grinning, he planned on popping C6 and Calvin could mirror to F3, just to test before they started teleporting around.

Annamarie tries to focus to share with Ms Frost and Kitty both, but only the both of them. Focus is important there. Kurt at C6. Calvin at F2/F3/F4 -- Ms Frost, what's the policy on saying damn? Because all I get is an even chance there.

Kitty took a deep breath to steady herself. Okay, nothing to worry about. Just two teleporters instead of one. Easy. Just increased risk of collision and/or molecular fusion.

Emma links Kitty and Annamarie separately for this, and settles back into her seat as the boys look like they're about to begin. Damn is fine darling. But she finds it interesting that predictions for Calvin are less....sure. Hopefully due to his lack of experience using the power, making him more unpredictable, and not some natural unpredictability to him or his powers. picword: Explaining stuff |

Calvin maintains the mental link with Kurt to coordinate the efforts, then teleports with all the signatures of Kurt's powers. He's not as precise as the other, landing on the very edge of his target square instead of right in the middle - that may have something to do with the unpredictability side.

Kurt rebamfed to a corner, A1, and looked around to see how people were doing. No one was fainting and Calvin at least reappeared in this dimension, which Kurt counted as a plus. And then he tried to not grin too obviously, on the outside at least. Shall we? he asked Calvin and counted to three to bamf at Kitty.

Yeah, I'm set. Calvin agrees via the link, taking Kurt's coordinates, sighting in the area around Kitty to help visualize his eventual destination, then looks away to try and keep Kitty herself from anticipating so she has to rely on warning. then he teleports on Kurt's mental three count.

Kitty had just enough warning to deliver a mental Thanks! before focusing all her mental energy on turning intangible before the boys arrived.

Emma watched and listened in on all the action, not butting in on any of the mental talk, just letting them get a feel for what worked at first. Once they had that slightly down, she'd get them to pick up the pace. No reason this should be routine and relaxing.

Kurt aimed low on tackling Kitty and therefore passed harmlessly through her legs to tumble onto another square. Righting himself on the ground, he grinned up at the other two on the chess board. "We'll get you one of these times, Miss Pryde," he added with a proper villainous tone.

Calvin is still playing it somewhat cautious so as not to run into Kurt - since his teleportation isn't quite as precise. Not as precise yet, he reminds himself fully. Emma can pick up the thoughts on just how determined he is to master these powers - along with definite signs she's on the right track to encouraging him. He coordinates another jump with Kurt, once he's ready.

Annamarie grins at her brother's showmanship, but stays focused on relaying the coordinates. She's really getting the hang of Kurt's, while she's still a little wobbly on Calvin's. And as she's staring at him to run the numbers, she tries to rein in a thought that it's definitely nice that it's Kurt who's her brother and not Cal. Annamarie will definitely work on not broadcasting that one to Kitty and Miss Frost.

Kitty had never pushed her powers this much before. Never really used them this much before. She was starting to get... tired, in some way she couldn't quite describe.

There's what's projected over telepathic lines, and there's what's available to be heard without those. And Emma's listening in on all of them. Picking up Calvin's determination, Annamarie's attempt to reign in that thought, and Kitty's fatigue. The first on that list was positive, good, the boy was determined and motivated. That was easier to work with. The second was relevant, but not directly, and not now. Knowing the relationships and opinions her students had of each other, that was useful. But again, not something that she'd reveal she knew, not until it'd be worth it. Kitty's fatigue though...that was perfect. The girl had barely touched her powers, and they had so much potential. It wasn't just about getting her used to them, it was to reach her limits and push past them. Just a tad faster now, Kurt darling. Change from where you approach her, and switch up who does it. She's getting used to it being you, predictability is only useful to us when it comes to Annamarie.

Kurt nodded to Emma's points and out of habit look to Calvin to talk to him. You need to tag Kitty now, Kurt explained to him. I'll bamf close to distract and then you go for it. A one-two hit, alright? For a moment, he thought Kitty looked a little pale, but it could just a part of having pink skin. He bamfed away to start the maneuver with Calvin.

Calvin signals his agreement via telepathy, and takes a deep breath. Precision time - or something like it. He waits for Kurt's count, letting him teleport first, then following after to try and tag Kitty before she can phase.

Emma sighs inwardly to herself with some annoyance. While it's Kurt specifically that brings up the thought, she projects it to everyone because it's something they need to get down. When communicating telepathically, you do Not need to look at who you're communicating with. It's pointless, a waste, and needlessly obvious. You are all certainly better than that. But otherwise the boys had decent strategy and took direction well. But good, keeping them on their toes. She sends that thought at just the boys, light praise but it's praise enough. Keep up girls, you cannot have them thinking they have the upper hand for long.picword: Evaluating something |

Calvin smiles at the praise. It doesn't need to be much - it works wonders. Keeping the suggestion in mind, he's looking towards Kitty when he telepathically suggests to Kurt, Double jump? Pop in one place, rapidly teleport again to the real targets?

Kurt knew he was caught doing the looking-and-talking thing and flicked his tail contritely. But they tagged Kitty! Point to them! Like skipping rocks on a pond. If you are sure you are used enough to teleporting to do it, he agreed and looked at Kitty too, grinning widely as a bonus tactic. I can feint again, they'd expect me to tag Kitty this round.

Emma can definitely see the thoughts forming on Calvin's end. Is used enough to teleporting to do this? Is he good enough to pull it off? He has no idea. Which may be part of the difference between him and some of the other students. I'll never know til I try. he responds without hesitation. Kurt is the better teleporter, no question. Calvin, on the other hand, has no problems pushing himself and testing anything and everything he can do with these powers.

The numbers are a little iffy. Kitty, Annamarie broadcast. Appearance after next is likeliest, but they'll be fast! ... even chance Cal'll be coming at your just a teensy little bit off balance, but I'm guessing trying to knock him isn't part of this lesson It was the sort of thing Momma had encouraged, though. So best just stick to the whole ghostdodge thing

Too bad she could barely figure out how to turn unsolid, let alone only partially unsolid. A good smack to one or the other would be pretty therapeutic right now. But if she could go from one to the other quickly enough... She'd be able to phase, this time, now that she had a breath. But she'd follow it with an elbow.
