Valentine's Day Gala!

Being the defending champs gave the members of the Caerphilly Catapults many obligations, like being the MC's of this rather lavish evening...or, rather, the boys had volunteered Carys to do all the talking as they stood and looked cute in their suits. It was a job that she didn't particularly mind, she'd been in the spotlight all her life, but she grew bored of introducing generous donors and the big-wigs of the league. Carys knew about all the politics that went on behind the scenes, so she put on a good face, but was definitely not shy about voicing her opinion on certain matters.

"Oh, absolutely," she said to the head of the refereeing committee, "But when you've got one ref on the offensive side, and the foul's committed on the far end of the defense's area....I'm just saying, we should probably be taking advantage of--oh, what's it called?" Carys winked at the man, and at the reporter listening in, "--magic?"

She laughed when he huffed and excused himself, and the reporter shook her hand for the great sound bit. Carys gave a little twirl (her dress had too many ruffles not to twirl), and leaned over the counter to order another drink. The sound of something like an amused snort made her turn her head, and she raised her eyebrows,

"Something funny?"

Anneliese fidgeted in her spot, actually unable to stay still for more than a few seconds at a time. She felt anxious about being here to begin with, so that mixed in with her five month pregnancy emotions just sort of created this hyped up, nervous form of herself. She really couldn't help it! But she at least was trying to internalize everything in some vain attempt to look like she wasn't thinking about what she was actually thinking about.

Will had convinced her that going to this gala would be a good way of getting their minds off of everything that was happening now, but Anneliese still wasn't completely comfortable with it. Emmeline was in a lot of pain because of what had happened to Frank and Alice, and of course being far from Henry didn't settle well now that they were back in England.

But--- she had to stop. Concentrating on all these stressful things was not healthy for her, or the baby, not to mention she couldn't let herself effect Will. She had noticed his rather sober, or perturbed mood as of late, and the last thing she wanted was to throw him off anymore than he already was.

So. She was going to take a deep breath, and try to relax. Following her own instructions, Anneliese took a long breath and closed her eyes for a few moments. Maybe she should try to take in the happy people around her, and channel that. Yes, that would be a good start. People watching always distracted her well.

"Look," Anneliese spoke, taking the time to nudge Will in the chest with her hand. "It's the new Magpie captain over there--- and the old one over there. Oh-- and the other old one all the way over."

Will blinked, Anneliese's hand knocking him out of his silent reverie. He followed her gesture and nodded. His eyes narrowed and he let out a slight laugh, "Wadcock's dating some girl from my year," he noted, amused that Mira found herself with another big mouth Gryffindor. Oh, well.

His thoughts had been quite clouded this past week. They'd been swept up in the news of the attack on the Longbottoms, and here they were, at some grand party full of celebrities who, speaking for 95% of the crowd, had had no interaction with the actual war, but were so thrilled for it to be over. Will had once been so jealous of this life, and he still was, but for far different reasons now. What demons did Seth Wadcock have to deal with other than some women he's shagged and dumped on the corner?

Will was not happy about the fate of the Longbottoms. When Emmeline had seen him he'd felt pathetic and ashamed, even though he'd had nothing to do with the attacks. Will had hated Frank, but he had always kept the battle between them as...auror versus death eater. He'd remained neutral in all other aspects of life, and now with his distance from the Dark Lord in France, Will had been feeling more like an auror than anything and...his loyalties had been conflicted.

He had another child on the way, a girl, and Will had been so silently grateful that someone had found a way to destroy Voldemort. He could live the life he'd wanted to for so long without any despicable obligations, and he could stop lying to Anneliese. The attacks on the Longbottoms broke Will out of his bubble of happiness and had snapped him back to a dreary reality.

It was never going to be over, he was never going to put his past behind him.

Will smiled though, for Anneliese, and put his hand to his mouth to whisper, "Don't look now, but I think McLaggen's got his eye on you."

Anneliese couldn't help it, a little squeak managed to burst from her mouth as she began to semi-wildly look around for the Finn McLaggen. She may be a happily married woman, but that had completely nothing to do with a quidditch idol being in relative proximity. Will may be able to control himself in the midst of his favorite team, but she sure as couldn't. United ran too deeply in her blood for that.

"Where?--- Stop," she said, quickly moving to regain some control. Anneliese blushed lightly, and nudged Will again, this time much more playfully. "You know you can't say things like that," she said, speaking in a lower tone as she moved closer to him and her rightful place in the crook of his arm. If anything, her husband's embrace had always been able to calm her, and today was like no other.

"Who knows what I might end up doing," Anneliese laughing, rolling her eyes dramatically while she spoke. It was a few moments later that she had realized her thoughts had been distracted enough to not think of Emmeline. Remembering, the familiar guilt from the last few days filled her up, and Anneliese's smile automatically dropped. Not wanting for Will to see, she ducked her chin low.

Will frowned, immediately understanding Anneliese's expression. She'd never been very good at hiding her emotions and Will knew precisely when she was trying to cover her feelings up. He leaned toward her, nudging his shoulder with hers before kissing her cheek, "Do you want to dance?"

It could keep her mind off the things that were also plaguing Will. He had no desire to comfort Emmeline Vance, but the guilt he felt was immense so he couldn't do anything but help Anneliese with her friend. The war was over, and as much as he still hated the girl, no one deserved what had happened. The Lestranges had just got absolutely insane, and the wake of their terror was going to be felt forever.

Will felt like a really shitty person, these days, but he'd vowed to be a good husband, so he stood and put his hand out to Anneliese, smiling softly.
