WORLD CUP PARTY!

Champions of the world. That's all there was really to say, wasn't it?

Charlie took in a long breath of the cool New York air, admiring the party that was being thrown for team Ireland. Them, being thrown for them! Holly was a riot, capturing pictures with everyone and demanding certain poses. Caden Flint was smiling, smiling from ear to ear! He and Saoirse had even danced for a song or two, or three, it was that kind of night. It felt like his entire life had led up to today's match, to this night.

He made his way to the bar, raising his hand to the bartender to bring him another round. Tomorrow was his last day in New York, and he meant to celebrate this night like it should be. Charlie slid onto the bar stool and shook some hands with passersby as he waited for his drink. It was really something, being part of the best team in the world---it hadn't sunk in, and he didn't think that it was something that would for a long time.

His foot knocked into the person sitting beside him as he turned back to the bar. Charlie grinned sheepishly, "Whoops, sorry."

ooc: Open to all participants of the World Cup, their friends, family, and guests!!

It was all very nice and thoughtful that this gentleman wizard was apologizing for his potentially suggestive foot play, but his spoken words were making it rather difficult for her to hear what her brother and Seth were saying across the bar, so for that, Liddie couldn't help but make an distracted face. Her lip reading wasn't as good as it once had been, and there was enough noise at the party to begin with make such a task already difficult. She just wanted to know what had transpired so severely between Seth and Michal in the past few weeks to them to have become such a divorced....

Liddie closed her eyes briefly, and opened them again, effectively clearing that last thought. Color her properly intrigued over Seth and Michal's apparent falling out, but any way she had a right to know as Michal's only devoted, and baby, sister. Curling her hair over her shoulder, and looked up at her new stranger friend's face.

He was tall. He would have much better earshot than her, yes, due to his height?

Turning back to him, she quickly sought to grab his attention again.

"Could you help me with something?" Liddie asked suddenly, and for helpful measure, rested her palm on his flat hand a few seconds after she spoke. Her fingers lightly brushed his knuckles as she blinked slowly. "Just a tiny favor? It's just... my brother...." Liddie let out a sigh, and casually waved her other hand in the air as she purposely trailed off into vagueness.

There was some slight amusement to be had when she all but ignored him. Charlie had spent the past few weeks being hounded by the media, fans, his team, and his sister (Delilah had finally come to her senses and cheered solely for Ireland); it was actually a bit of a relief to not have to answer questions or smile for pictures he'd never see. Being able to blend into the crowd of the party, at least for the time being, might be a good way to end his stay in New York. Charlie turned away with a grin, looking down the bar to see what was taking his drink so long to arrive.

Her slight touch, however, knocked the short lived reverie out of his mind. Charlie turned back to her, other hand still raised above the counter as he'd begun to wave over the bartender. His eyebrows rose, but he lowered his hand and smiled with a bit of amusement and confusion.

“Your brother?" he repeated, swiveling his seat to face her. "That's not something I hear a lot."

Was her brother one of those crazy fans that had managed to slip into this party and were snagging souvenirs like used napkins and taking pictures over the shoulders of the players? Charlie supposed one last autograph session wouldn't be a problem, but he waited to hear her out. Perhaps her brother had left her all alone, and she needed to be escorted home and he was just the strong and handsome bloke to do so. One could only dream, yeah?

"Sure, why not," he said, not bothering to ask what this favor actually was. Forget the quiet evening, when was Charlie ever really up for that? He grinned, looking expectantly at the woman. "I need all the help I can get when it comes to my sister, may as well return the favor."

"Perfect!"

Her idle hand clamped down on his, and quickly Liddie jumped up from her seat to move close to her new accomplice. He would be able to get closer, much closer than she would've ever gotten without being spotted, yes? She hoped so. She really wanted to know what was going on between her brother and his best friend-- Seth hadn't been to the house once in the past two months. Undoubtably, that meant something serious.

Ducking her head slightly between her shoulders, she let her hair fall down to cover the side of her face facing Michal and Seth. Speaking quickly, Liddie only released Charlie's hand to point at her brother behind her extended palm.

"I need you to use your tall person powers and tell me what they're talking about over there." Liddie pulled her lips back for a moment before smiling brightly. He had a sister that made him need all the help he could get, he should understand the untiring duty of one sibling to the other.

For a brief moment, it occurred to Liddie that this new friend of hers might actually know of Michal. Or, even worse, know him personally. This was a quidditch party after all, and as Liddie had deduced, her brother actually was relatively popular (in the secondary term definition sense) within this community. So, for assurance on that potential fault in her plan, she smoothly added, "Please?"

There was a great need to pull a face and judge her immediately for being related to Lynch, but Charlie kept his amused expression sturdy. He and Rose Knightley had made it their life goal to pester Lynch as much as possible during their rehab sessions together, and while they were often foiled, this perhaps, would be the perfect way to sneak attack some much deserved revenge. Charlie pretended to pay apt attention to Lynch and Wadcock, who looked like they were going through something dramatic.

"Wow, the Polish Keeper's your brother?" Charlie said in great awe. "He almost played for Ireland, yeah?"

That caused him to grin, ever so much, but he stood straight and nodded. "I think I can help you out with that. Because you asked so nicely."

Charlie winked down at her, before slipping off his stool and rounding the bar to where Lynch and Wadcock were pouting. Moving through the crowd, he discreetly shook some hands from some other players, trying to keep his low-key persona in tact. He was sure Lady Lynch was keeping a keen eye on him, so he had to play the part. Finally coming around to the other side of the bar, Charlie pushed into the space between Lynch and the random person next to him. He saluted the two other players, a wide, cheeky smile stretched across his face.

"Hope you're enjoying our party, lads," Charlie said to the men before turning to the bar and flagging down the bartender. He had better luck on this side, it seemed, and his drink came right away. Charlie raised his pint up in silent cheers as he caught Lady Lynch's eye, and he winked before taking a drink.

He knew her brother.

Liddie puffed out her cheeks, feeling a twinge of guilt knowing the likelihood that she had just sent one of Michal's many self-proclaimed enemies to spy on him was high. But then she recalled he had been the one refusing to allow her in his life through normal venues, so, her guilt quickly morphed into a satisfied delight as her new accomplice blended in behind her brother. Now she just hoped that whatever he and Seth were talking seriously about was worth it.

And, if possible, highly embarrassing because she would enjoy that as well.

"You didn't tell me you play quidditch too," Liddie announced to her definitely a quidditch player acquaintance once he returned. Taking a sip from her drink, she looked up at Charlie with a glint in her eye. She had noticed his popularity among some of the other guests here already in the few minutes that had passed already. Was he Irish? Though, she supposed, her brother was very much Irish but played for another country.

"I didn't?" Charlie said with an exaggerated tone of surprise. He scratched his head, thinking back. "That's usually the first thing I say to people! 'Hello, I'm a World Class quidditch player, would you like me to sign your t-shirt?'"

He slid back onto the stool that she had somehow managed to keep empty. Charlie couldn't imagine that there were many blokes at the party that would have been able to resist the urge to sit beside her, but Lady Lynch didn't seem like the type that would let anyone she didn't want in that sit to even get the chance. Charlie finished his drink before setting it back on the counter, barely able to hide his grin at how good the gossip he'd just eavesdropped on was.

"The information I just collected could probably earn me a small island in the Caribbean if I were to sell it to The Tattler," Charlie said, sounding immensely pleased with himself. Wadcock was engaged and Lynch was afraid it was going to ruin everything? Charlie knew how emotionally invested best friends could get, he and Octavius could live out the rest of their lives on an ice lake in Minnesota without much qualms, he was no stranger to these sort of talks. Part of him felt guilty, but that guilt only lasted a few seconds as he recalled how much of a dick Michal Conway Lynch was.

"So, as I made my way back through the crowd, I thought to myself...how easily should I give this sort of news up?" Charlie's eyebrows rose in a mischievous manner and he rapped his fingers on the counter. "I'll be more inclined to share with an offer better than a private island on the table..."

"What!" Liddie immediately gapped, her jaw dropping a bit as she spoke. A better offer? What a load of dung that was! Her brow darkened, and all of the sudden, the reason as to why she had so solemnly avoided anything quidditch player over the years (well, except for one. Two!) had something vaguely to do with the smug being before her. What did he think she was going to do? Saunter up to him provocatively and whisper sweet nothings in his ear until he spilled? Who was he?

One, she wasn't that kind of witch, two that was her brother, she out of anyone had the right to know what exactly was going on over there. Three, she felt far too annoyed at the thought of being so out of the know that even remotely playing along with his game seemed impossible, and four, she had spent most of her life getting exactly what she wanted so why he thought he could stop that now was preposterous. Liddie let out a huff.

"Excuse me," she snapped, and promptly dropped her feet down to the floor. Snatching her purse from the bar top, in the same motion Liddie flicked her hair over her shoulder and stuck her chin up high in the air. Better offer than a private island? She tutted to herself as she began to walk away, intent on interrupting Seth and Michal herself.

Charlie blinked. Apparently he couldn't just hop back into the flirting game as easily as he thought he could. He bit his tongue, watching her stalk off. Perhaps his luck had run out for the night, and he should just settle with the drink he had and call it a night. It had been a long few weeks, and maybe this was a sign! Maybe he still wasn't ready to try and talk to a girl in that way, maybe he was repeating history with hitting on a quidditch player's sister, maybe---

---oh, fuck it.

He pushed quickly off his seat and pushed quickly through the crowd, not having lost Lady Lynch in the crowd. Charlie made a mad dash and knocked over a tray of appetizers before finally managing to cut in front of her. He spun around and put his hands up, showing his innocence and, you know, displaying a slight plea for attention.

"I haven't flirted in two years," he admitted with not much shame. And loudly, too, because he'd stopped her by one of the speakers. There was nothing wrong with having been in a relationship, his mature mind reasoned. Charlie grinned sheepishly and shrugged his shoulders, "I may be a bit rusty. I didn't mean to say--I was trying to get you to agree to see me not...here. Again. Somewhere else. Even if it's just me paying for your lunch."

Charlie rocked back and forth for a moment, knowing he'd messed up. He let out a breath.

"Wadcock's engaged. Your brother's not happy. Am I still a dolt?"
