Progeny of the Dark McCoy
Friedrich was currently in his father's laboratory. Well not his father really. Friedrich was a clone of Henry McCoy, the Dark Beast. He was aware he was a living test subject, albeit better treated, of his progenitor to test and experiment his own mutation without risking himself. While Friedrich didn't have his father's fur or dark-furred appearance, he had significantly different mutations. Knees that bent backward, rather than forward like a human. They reminded him somewhat of the style common to those used in new age werewolf movies. His hand ended in claws rather than nails. He could retract them somewhat, but not completely. When unsheathed they were significantly sharp, log, and durable. His torso was segmented, allowing him to twist and turn his bodies in ways unheard of to those of genetics.

Currently he was in the middle of an experiment to see if he could create a functioning dual lung-gill system in a rat.

It was at this point that Friedrich's brother Nicholas came home. With Nicholas's usual concern for scientific focus, concentration, and decorum, he barged in. "Friedrich! Hey, Lab Rat, where are you?"

Friedrich, long accustomed to such entrances, didn't budge. In fact he heard his "brother" entering from quite a distance.

"In here, dear sibling. Funny you should mention rats, I believe I've almost succeeded. One thing I must say about Father's taste in homes, it certainly leaves much in the way of test subjects."

"Well done, then. I'm sure he'll think whatever you've done to the critter is fascinating. Meanwhile, those of us who are more involved the in combining the direct application of sociopolitical views and the direct application of physics via our fists could use some antiseptic." He flashes a forearm with a livid scratch down it.

"Ah yes, always a fascinating process, Nicholas. I particularly enjoy the part where you explain to your philosophical opponent the inherit superiority of the mutant race by ripping his spine out his ass. Always a debate-ender." Friedrich lifts his glasses from his nose. They were more for show than anything. He loved spectacles.

"My, isn't that pretty." He pulls out the proper materials. "I'd say 'trust me I'm a doctor' but, the lack of completing a doctoral thesis hinders the validity of said statement. So who gave you this one?" Friedrich asks casually as he begins the cleaning process.

"Propaganda of the deed, little brother," Nicholas cited classic anarchist phraseology with a rattlesnake smile. "Propaganda of the deed."

"I saw a guy in an X-Factor T-shirt and decided I could get away with it. So to make sure I could get away with it, I didn't even shift, and he turned out to have claws." Nicholas shrugged, then smiled. "And I'd never do you the insult of entirely trusting you, Friedrich. It would imply we hadn't been raised right."

"A mutant with claws!? Color me surprised, Nicholas. I mean you and I both know the extreme shorter of mutants with sharp nails in this world. Next thing you'll tell me is that you saw a unnaturally fit woman flying overhead." Friedrich finished using the antiseptic and went to get some thread and a needle. He smiled himself, fangs visible. "Well damn, there goes my scheme to inject you with a serum that would turn your form polka-dotted the next time you took on your more hirsute visage."

He continues to speak as he rummaged through the drawers.

"X-Factor? You'll have to refresh my memory a tad, I'm not one for reality shows. They are the fecal matter of television."

"Everyone in an X-Factor T-Shirt is either a flatscan who wants a mutant pet, or a mutant who wants to be a pet. I thought I had the former; I had the latter. They're worse than Uncle Doormat." A harsh chuckle. "Heh. Could be worse. Imagine the embarrassment of getting slaughtered by a polka-dotted guy."

"Hmm, it seems they'll put anything on television these days," Friedrich commented as he returned with the proper instruments. Friedrich didn't comment on Nicholas' assessment of their uncle. He never meant him and Friedrich personally preferred to assess char. through observation and evidence, much as he would a thesis. "I once he heard a report of a man being mulled by a humanoid lagomorph. Imagine one's shame at being devoured by Bugs Bunny on steroids." He begins the sewing process.

"Yep. Still looking forward to meeting the smug flatscan that produces it someday." Nicholas just sets his teeth a little as Friedrich stitches him, and chuckles a little at the thought of the mauling.

"My guess someone with money and enough influence to make the simpletons in power look the other way despite it being such a sensitive issue," Friedrich mused as he continued.

"Oh yes. Place in the Hamptons, ravishes the starlets, Ralph Lauren suits, all the accrouchements of the spoiled twit in in its natural habitat." Nicholas hisses a little as he talks, whether from the annoyance or the discomfort, who knows.

Friedrich nods as he almost finishes. "That is all possible, but I have another theory. I believe said individual may be backed by mutants or may even be a mutant himself. After all if mutants become heroes to the public..." Friedrich leaves the statement unsaid as he ties up the last bit. He reaches for a pair of scissors.

"Much as there'd be satisfaction in seeing the guy played like a patsy by some of us, if he is backed by mutants; it's losers begging for flatscan approval, just like the ones on the show."

"Possibly, though I think a great deal of it can't be determined until whomever it is shows him or herself. A proper estimation of motives can begin then." With a snip, Friedrich finishes. "I'm no nurse, but that should do..at least until the the microscopic parasites I put in your bloodstream reach your brain." He grins impishly. "Just kidding, I few enough of those as it is."

A low chuckle. "Of course. Why risk the lecture about wasting resources? So seriously, Friedrich, what did you do the rat?"

Friedrich turned back to his experiment, a new animation in his face.

"I am attempting to induce a mutation that would produce a set of gills concurrent to its existing lungs. Rather than our father's study of altering existing mutations, I'm looking to add all new mutations entirely. It's admittingly a complex process. There are many factors to consider. Something as mundane as blood type of the donor DNA could affect a potential recipient."

"Sounds like a lot of effort for an amphibious mouse."

Nicholas considered himself more of a social scientist. In that he didn't consider himself a fucking scientist at all.

"Why are you more interested in sticking in new mutations out of whole cloth than just taking alternate paths for existing ones? Worked fine on you."

"Perhaps big brother, but I have to go through considerably more effort to make myself look like just another human pleb than you do. Not that I have ever been vain , I don't much care what I look like, but it'd be much simpler if I could move about without getting mobbed on sight."

He checks a few readings.

"If one can pick and choose mutation, it could considerably aid our people. Especially with the randomness of the x-gene. I've discovered and cataloged mutants with such odd mutations as two heads, a sentient heart, tentacles growing out one's neck..Need I go on?"

"Ah yes, the eternal enemy of progress, cold logic. As of yet, no. I suppose I could always fill the sink, throw it in, and see what happens. Then again we do wash things in there..." He shrugs. "So now that you're patched up, what do you intend to do next? Perhaps jump rope with a human supremacist's small intestine?"

"Ooo I wanna take you down to Kokomo, we'll get there fast and then we'll take it slow, that's where we wanna go, way down to Kokomo..." Friedrich realizes he was singing out loud. He gives a cough. "Many pardons, Nicholas. Yes, that's a good idea."
