Progeny of the Dark McCoy
Friedrich was currently in his father's laboratory. Well not his father really. Friedrich was a clone of Henry McCoy, the Dark Beast. He was aware he was a living test subject, albeit better treated, of his progenitor to test and experiment his own mutation without risking himself. While Friedrich didn't have his father's fur or dark-furred appearance, he had significantly different mutations. Knees that bent backward, rather than forward like a human. They reminded him somewhat of the style common to those used in new age werewolf movies. His hand ended in claws rather than nails. He could retract them somewhat, but not completely. When unsheathed they were significantly sharp, log, and durable. His torso was segmented, allowing him to twist and turn his bodies in ways unheard of to those of genetics.

Currently he was in the middle of an experiment to see if he could create a functioning dual lung-gill system in a rat.

Friedrich turned back to his experiment, a new animation in his face.

"I am attempting to induce a mutation that would produce a set of gills concurrent to its existing lungs. Rather than our father's study of altering existing mutations, I'm looking to add all new mutations entirely. It's admittingly a complex process. There are many factors to consider. Something as mundane as blood type of the donor DNA could affect a potential recipient."

"Sounds like a lot of effort for an amphibious mouse."

Nicholas considered himself more of a social scientist. In that he didn't consider himself a fucking scientist at all.

"Why are you more interested in sticking in new mutations out of whole cloth than just taking alternate paths for existing ones? Worked fine on you."

"Perhaps big brother, but I have to go through considerably more effort to make myself look like just another human pleb than you do. Not that I have ever been vain , I don't much care what I look like, but it'd be much simpler if I could move about without getting mobbed on sight."

He checks a few readings.

"If one can pick and choose mutation, it could considerably aid our people. Especially with the randomness of the x-gene. I've discovered and cataloged mutants with such odd mutations as two heads, a sentient heart, tentacles growing out one's neck..Need I go on?"

Nicholas waves dismissively. "Granted, granted. So. Have you got an aquarium to test your new mouse out?"

"Ah yes, the eternal enemy of progress, cold logic. As of yet, no. I suppose I could always fill the sink, throw it in, and see what happens. Then again we do wash things in there..." He shrugs. "So now that you're patched up, what do you intend to do next? Perhaps jump rope with a human supremacist's small intestine?"

"Going to talk to the guys about when the time might be right to start properly screwing with Howard -- the TV producer. Gotta remind them we need to take it slow, though."

"Ooo I wanna take you down to Kokomo, we'll get there fast and then we'll take it slow, that's where we wanna go, way down to Kokomo..." Friedrich realizes he was singing out loud. He gives a cough. "Many pardons, Nicholas. Yes, that's a good idea."
