Healer Interns are basically there to observe. They are not allowed to assist in the actual healing of the patients but Healers will give them scenarios in which the Intern will have to solve and write a case study on. Most of the work in these internships is purely theoretical.

A more 'hands on' Internship can be found at Gringotts as Goblins feel that if the wizard or witch has working limbs they are good enough to be put to work. Guard Interns do several shifts of guard duty with a fully-fledged Guard before given something minor to guard on their own - usually the front door. Curse-Breaker Interns will be given a crash course in curse-breaking before being teamed up with a Curse-Breaker and assisting with minor curses on artifacts found in the UK.

The largest amount of Internships are available at the Ministry of Magic with each Department accepting one Intern (except the Department of Mysteries, they tend to lose theirs). However, due to the extreme bias toward Muggleborns in the Ministry it is quite selective in who it chooses to work for them. Internships are both theoretical and practical depending on the Department.
