Characters: Jenny & Bastian.
Setting: Tuesday evening, in the Bainbridge library.
Content: Jen and Bas bump into each other in the library after a rousing meeting of Wizards Chess.
Rating: SFW.

Jenny had rushed through dinner without even really eating in order to get to the club meeting for Wizards Chess on time. It was the second meeting of the year, and as soon as it finished up after it's usual hour, the blonde was on the move again. She wasn't even sure if she had won or not.

Not for the first time since returning to school the week before, Jenny was vaguely wondering if she had piled her plate too high this year. It seemed like Sera's overachiever attitude was rubbing off on her more than ever, and now here she was in more clubs and advanced classes than she could count. On top of that, she had actually gotten Head Girl and cheerleading captain. Discipline of her peers and planning and arranging practices added on top of everything else was almost enough to make her bust, but she just kept reminding herself that it would all pay off in the end.

Everything that she did would look good on a transcript, even if she only went to Blue Ridge's university. She wanted to be the first choice to get into that Wizarding Literature course even if it killed her before then.

She was as quiet as possible, moving between the stacks and shelves of books and grabbing up a couple of books that she needed for her advanced Divination extra-credit assignment. But while she was there, she decided she might as well grab the rest of the textbooks that she would need to do her homework before bed. With her arms overly full, she made her way over to the closest table and dropped them with a dull thud. Two students nearby looked up from what they were doing, but whether it was because they recognized her as Head Girl or not, they went back to what they were doing with just irritated looks her way.

Looking to the boy actually sitting at the table, Jenny offered an apologetic smile. "Sorry," she mock-whispered. "Heavy," she added jovially enough, before slowly beginning to pick her books back up again.

Despite signing up to chess club at the beginning on term, Bastian had yet to actually find time to attend a meeting. He enjoyed it very much and was probably the only game across the world that had the same rules wherever you went, but he found himself forgoing it in favour of getting in some extra study time. Surrounded by very dusty, old books he had been squinting at the blurred and faded text in them for the past three hours without making much headway. He was in fact, beginning to feel a little frazzled.

It came as a welcome distraction to be joined at his table. He smiled warmly at the girl and laughed quietly. "Looks like it" he answered, clearing off some of his parchment to make room for her to sit down.

She was usually one to be quiet in the library, used to studying with Sera, but something about the boy's smile told her that he wasn't as irritated with her as the other patrons right now. ""Extra credit Divination," she explained, still in a hushed whisper.

"It'd be a pain if it wasn't so fascinating!" the blonde reasoned as she gently pulled out a chair next to him and took the seat. Shuffling her books around, she selected the third one down in the pile and pulled it out, opening to somewhere in the middle. She began to scan down the page, but a thought struck her and she turned her head toward him with a little smile of her own. "I'm not trying to be rude, so feel free to tell me to shut up if you're not, but are you new?"

Bastian paled at the sight of the Divination book. Surely this girl was mad? "That is my worst subject" he admitted, not wanting to ask the girl what could possibly be fascinating about a bunch of random scribbles and guess work.

He smiled at her question, it was one he had gotten a lot recently. "Very. I have just come here for the university" Bas explained. Thankful for the initiaton of conversation, he relaxed in his chair and twiddled his old fashioned quill, leaving splotchy marks over his work. With a sigh he began wiping them away with his wand.

"Are you in the high school?" He had to admit she looked a little young, especially to be a college student. Besides, she was in uniform.

Jenny caught the look on his face as he eyed her book, and she couldn't help but crack a crooked little smile. She knew that look. "It's definitely not a subject for everyone," she replied with a little shrug of his shoulders. "But I enjoy it, I find it much more.. relaxed in comparison to my other coursework. It's nice."

She bent to her bag and grabbed a notebook and pen, straightening up again and trying to re-find her page. "I think you'll like it here, everyone is pretty nice," she informed him matter-of-factly, shrugging her shoulders again. "There are a.. few people who aren't the best rolemodels, but you know, every school has those."

When he asked if she was in high school, she quickly nodded. "You got it, senior class of 2012," she replied. Realizing she hadn't actually introduced herself, she quickly closed her book and offered out her hand, a bit daintily. "Jenny Parry, by the way. In case you were wondering who this crazy girl distracting you from your interesting looking book is," she joked.

"Oh, yes! Everyone has been most friendly" Bastian started eagerly, spotting another student glaring at them. Bas slowly reached for his wand and cast a small muffliato spell in his direction before catching Jenny's eye a little guiltily.

"My name is Bastian. Bas" he carried on, taking her hand in a firm handshake. His father had taught him the art of a good handshake from an early age. No better way to make a good impression, he would say. "This book is not very interesting unless you are looking to find the best way to cut up human tongue to release its healing properties" Bas explained, looking slightly horrified with himself. Now she would definitely think him a serial killer.

Caught up in conversing and introducing herself, Jenny had almost completely forgotten where they were. She was so used to having to keep totally silent in the library, it was almost like a treat to get to make a friend there. She always saw people reading books that looked good and never got a chance to say anything for fear of disturbing them while they studied. "My bad," she offered, a little quieter and with a guilty little smile.

"It's nice to meet you, Bas. Welcome to Blue Ridge, I guess, for what it's worth," she added, squeezing his hand gently as he gave her's the firm shake. It was quite strong, and she felt a little like a rag doll for the few shakes it lasted. Once their hands were released, she leaned over a bit to peer down at his book, she squinting at it. "Gross," she said simply, before lifting her eyes from the page and looking at him instead.

"I should warn you," she went on, as if he had said nothing at all. Really, Sera was always researching strange things and if it wasn't Sera, it was Ella showing her something weird on the internet. Nothing really phased her these days. "Since you are new and everything, that I do have a twin sister and she does have a.. very active sense of physical humor. So if I come up to you acting suspicious and giggly, I'm not really responsible for what happens!"

Bastian chuckled and nodded that he understood. "I guess you two are not like each other too much? It is usually the way. Grinning, he shrugged. "I do not have any twin here. If I come up to you acting strange it is just my way" he joked.

"We have our similarities," Jenny replied, nodding her head knowingly. "She's really the most amazing girl, though I expect you figured I'd say that since she's my sister but.. well, she really is! Though she her moments when she isn't necessarily an ideal rolemodel," she explained, smiling slowly. "Other than the pranks, she's quite sweet."

She giggled a little at his joke, giving him a gentle shove of his arm. "Cute. I'll keep that in mind if you come up offering me exploding sweets or something," she warned him teasingly.

"Usually sisters do not get on so well. I have two. Sometimes I am glad to be away from the battlefield" Bastian joked, unwrapping some gum and offering Jenny some.

"She's not perfect but she's family," Jenny joked back, smiling as she took a piece of the gum. "How old are your sisters? Older or younger?" she asked curiously. Something about him just gave her that warm sort of big brother vibe though, and she felt she could already guess the answer just maybe.

"I am a big brother" he said, beaming proudly. My sisters like to dance. Ballet mostly. I got all the brains and they got all the coordination" he joked, flashing a bruise on his elbow.

"Which of you is older? I guess you!"

"My sister and I split most of our talents pretty equal, I think.. but I got most of the attention span. And she's funnier. She never thinks my jokes are funny," Jenny explained, scrunching her nose.

She crinkled up her gum wrapper, rolling it on the table and grinning at him. "Right on! Just by a few minutes, or so I hear, but it still counts."
