Iden had taken the day off at the shop, but hadn't told Michael that. Instead, he had spent the better part of the day whipping up a four course northern Italian meal. When Michael arrived, he would find most of the living room magically cleared, Inky away at Moira's house, a fire in the fireplace, and a beautifully set table near said fire. Iden closely monitored the panna cotta as it cooked and poured it into its dishes to set. It looked suspiciously like everything was just about ready... not that he actually knew exactly when Michael was due in from work.

Michael snorted. "I didn't realize that it was a game," he said, mock accusingly.
"Have you heard from him lately? I read that Nott Commodities had some HOUR troubles recently. I'm sure he's been kept really busy."

"Mum said he's been busy, but he sure as hell hasn't talked to me. We weren't close before the holidays and we're even less so now. I don't anticipate hearing from him for at least a year," Iden said frankly. "Maybe if he got a promotion he'd be too busy and proud of himself to be an arsehole for a few months."

"Well, maybe he'll come around enough to be pleasant at the wedding," Michael said. He finished off his wine and poured himself more. Then he crossed around the table to Iden and topped off his glass, leaning on the table next to where Iden was sitting.
He smiled mischievously for a moment. When Iden looked at him questioningly, Michael answered, "I was just picturing you in dress robes for the wedding. You'll look amazing. I've always heard that wedding planning is stressful. I don't know if it's possible, but let's try to make it fun. We're both sentimental, but I don't think either of us have illusions about the perfect wedding. Do we?"

"I've heard that if you manage to plan a wedding with someone and still want to get married at the end, then being married is easy... But I'm certainly not aiming for perfect. Perfect is boring," Iden joked. "Hey, do you mind is Hannah is my matron of honor- I mean Best- er, whatever, my head attendant I guess?" Terminology it seemed might get weird around this wedding.

"Of course not," he said. "We should have her and Fred over for dinner sometime."
It occurred to Michael, that he didn't know who he'd ask to be his Best Man or Matron (or whatever). He figured that asking Mandy was right out. She didn't seem too fond of Michael and Iden's relationship. But he really hadn't kept in touch with many people.
"I guess I better start thinking about my own Best Man or whatever."

"You don't need to decide that until it's much closer. I just know that if I didn't pick Han-Han there probably wouldn't be enough of me left to marry," Iden said, only half-kidding. "You should ask Steven. I mean, not for your Best whatever but to be an attendant. Siblings are a pretty traditional choice."

"That's a thought," Michael said.
Michael took another drink of his wine. It occurred to him that taking a holiday in May might not be the best idea now that there was a wedding to plan.
"Do you think we should still take a holiday in May? I mean, it's a lovely idea and I have plenty of leave, but now we have a wedding to plan."

"Well October is about 6 months from now. I think that's plenty of time to plan a wedding and lay out on an Italian beach. Are you really going to rob me of a chance to ogle you in trunks? Maybe you are a sadist, after all," Iden said, playfully poking Michael before drinking some more of his wine.

Michael blushed. "Okay, then, Italy is still on."
"So, are we going to plan this ourselves, the wedding I mean, or should we hire some sort of planner?" Michael asked.

"I don't think we need a planner. I mean, maybe a planning book with checklists and the like, but I don't think we need a person," Iden said, thinking about it. There had to be a handful of planners at Flourish & Blotts. Plus, he had married friends. They would assuredly have advice. "Also, I'm pretty sure both of our moms would more than happy to help out. Actually, I bet we won't be able to stop them."

"Yeah, that's for sure," Michael said. They would no doubt have to calm both women down on multiple occasions.
"Well, let's plan to go pick up a book this week. Maybe we can start deciding some of the fun things like colors and whatnot."

"Well, if it's a Fall wedding, then we should pick appropriate colors," Iden mused, sipping more wine. "And one of them has to be something people look good in... Er, chocolate brown? And, um, not red, not yellow.... Ooh, what do you think of chocolate brown and burnt orange," he suggested, clearly visualizing the colors. Han in a brown dress with a big orange bouquet. "You know, a brown vest would really bring out your eyes."

Michael smiled and said, "That sounds nice. Look at us. We've been engaged for less than an hour and we've already picked a month and colors. I think this is going to go well."

Iden laughed and drank a bit more wine before speaking. "Yeah, at this rate we'll be done planning by June and can just kick back and wait for October to come... So, before we start determining where we should register, I was thinking we could take the rest of this wine bottle to the other room and discuss you laying out on an Italian beach."

"Are you asking for a preview, mister?" Michael said. "I think I could oblige you."

Iden laughed softly and grabbed the bottle and his glass. "I think I could handle being obliged," he said as he headed off into their room. With any luck, Michael's mum would owl his mum and they wouldn't have to deal with an early morning owl banging on their window....
