Entry tags:amelia bones, hufflepuff

#8

Name: Amelia Susan Bones
Birthdate: 27 July 1960
House: Hufflepuff
Residence: Oxford, Oxfordshire, England
Classes: Ancient Runes, Astronomy, Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, History of Magic, Transfiguration

Appearance: Her short blonde hair and the littering of freckles around her nose give Amelia an air of playfulness, further enhanced by her bright smile and deep brown eyes. Amelia has a friendly face and observes the world around her with a keen eye. When she's sad or serious, her eyes turn darker, to a colour almost resembling black. Her long legs and slender form give her the perfect posture for a Chaser, something she gratefully takes advantage of. Amelia dresses in comfortable clothes, preferring long, flowing skirts and robes that are neat but nicely fitting. She's pretty, but not in an obvious way, and the way she carries herself implies a certain shyness, though she is not a pushover by any means.

History: Little Amelia was born on 27 July, 1960, a mere ten months after the birth of her brother Edgar. Richard and Josephine Bones were delighted by the unexpected arrival of another child. Josephine especially doted on her only daughter, to the great dismay of Oliver, who was two years older than his siblings and had previously been his mother's favourite. He soon got over it, however, and revelled in his role as the Oldest Brother. Amelia looked up to him, but Edgar was her buddy, a subtle division that remained the same over the years.

Being born in a pureblood family, Amelia grew up with magic all around her. She delighted in it, wanting to learn as much as possible about the world she lived in. She was even more curious when the learnt about muggles, and one of her childhood dreams was to meet one, so they could compare stories about their different worlds. It never once occurred to her to dislike those born without magic, so she was shocked to find out that not everyone in the pureblood community regarded them so fondly.

At age nine, Amelia threw a large tantrum when an acquaintance of the family loudly discussed his view on the future of muggles and those with soiled blood. She was stung by the unfairness of it all and resolved to 'make it all better'. Her parents did not agree with their acquaintance's philosophy either, but they were wise enough to keep their criticisms quiet. They were touched by their daughter's idealism but realised that her defiance wouldn't go over well in their community, so they worked hard to teach Amelia some skills in subtlety.

Amelia was delighted when it was finally time for Edgar and her to go to Hogwarts. She was quickly sorted into Hufflepuff, while her brother left for Gryffindor, a fact that caused her some upset, though she quickly got used to it. With her open-mindedness and friendly demeanour, she made friends in most of the houses, something that didn't escape the eyes and ears of the pureblood community. Especially the Slytherins sneered upon her association with muggle-borns and halfbloods alike, but Amelia ignored them, making sure to keep ties on both sides of the fence as her parents had taught her.

In her third year, Amelia tried out for the Quidditch team, egged on by her brother Edgar. To her great surprise, she was accepted on the team as one of the Chasers. Edgar predictably reacted to the news with a pointed 'I told you so'. Amelia took to flying as a fish takes to swimming and worked hard with her fellow chasers to turn them into a team that shouldn't be underestimated. She felt right at home in Hufflepuff, loving the 'one for all' atmosphere that kept them all together.

During the summer preceding what would be her fifth year at Hogwarts, Amelia's world came crashing down with the death of her parents. It was unclear what had happened exactly, but there were whispers of a man named Voldemort, who wanted to rid the world of all those with tained blood or those who associated with them. Amelia spent the following year angry and depressed, and the three siblings clung to each other, desperate for some comfort. Edgar expressed his need to fight against the man who had possibly killed their parents, while Amelia and Oliver wanted to fight their war from the inside; the Ministry of Magic.

Amelia slowly began to heal, and while the pain of losing her parents didn't fade, it dulled, allowing her to pick up her life again. She had accepted what had happened to their family, and the resolve to do something manifested itself in an almost inhuman motivation to do well in her classes. She quickly discovered that she would burn herself out if she continued working this hard, and took a more responsible approach to the rest of her sixth year. She concentrated on her health and her friends, but always keeping in mind the road she wanted to follow.

Personality: Amelia is, first of all, defined by an immense loyalty towards her loved ones and a great sense of justice. She is friendly to everyone she meets, both interested in people and extremely aware of the necessity to stay in peoples' good books. She is very much interested in history, and her immense curiosity makes it impossible for her to keep her nose out of things, though she knows it's not a very becoming character trait. She likes to stay on the sidelines, but has the ability to take charge when needed, preferring to observe people quietly or listening to them objectively and drawing her own conclusions. She is somewhat shy, but not overly so, and once she's comfortable with you she opens up, showing great enthusiasm and a teasing playfulness.

Her family is very important to Amelia, and she always puts them first. Her name is often shortened to Lia or Mia by friends, but her brother Edgar is the only one who's allowed to call her Milly. Amelia doesn't get angry quickly, but when she does it's high time for you to take cover. Her brothers have learnt by now how to placate her when her voice changes to the dangerous steely soft tones that precede an explosion, but many an acquaintance has found himself fleeing for safety. Since the death of her parents, Amelia has become a bit more quiet and turned into herself, but she will often join people for the sake of the group, even if her heart's not really in it. She has taken to more artistic ways of expressing herself, carrying a small sketching pad with her everywhere and occasionally turning to poetry, though she often doesn't have the patience for it.

RP Entry: Amelia glanced idly at the sky and raised an eyebrow in silent speculation. Clouds had begun to gather in the small hour she had been outside, and she wouldn't be surprised if it started raining soon. She sighed and cast a quick drying spell on herself before gathering her robes, which she had left on the grass close to the lake when she'd felt like having a swim. The weather had been gorgeous for days, but it would figure that their Quidditch practice would take place during the few moments of rain.

She wondered briefly if it would be possible to influence the weather by use of a spell of a potion, but quickly dismissed the notion. She smiled and shook her head. There were more important things to think about right now. Her future, for example. Amelia wanted to make a difference in the world, but her brothers had made it clear what they thought of her plans of joining the Ministry. Oliver had called it 'a man's world, full of politics too dangerous for his baby sister to mix herself up in'. She frowned, running a hand through her short hair. She would think about it later. She had enough of the arguing and today was too beautiful a day to spoil, even with the dark clouds gathering above her.
