Julian/Hunter/Miah

Jacob had taken the puppy Julian had found under his wing and was keeping him safe for the moment, and taking care of him. Julian knew that he needed to ask Hunter if he could keep the puppy, but he was nervous because the way he had found him meant that he had broken the rules. But he hadn't meant to, he had just been curious and had wandered a bit too far. And then he'd seen the puppy, and he couldn't just leave him there by the river all alone. He was quiet as he stood in the doorway of Hunter's study, peering around the frame of the door.

"I know you are out there, little man." Hunter called out from where he was sitting on the sofa in the den. "You might as well just come in because you have already been out there a few minutes now." He leaned back and put his book down. He essentially already knew what was going on, he just wanted to see if he would say anything.

Julian scuffed his toe against the hardwood floor before he finally came into the room. He was slow, and he was fidgeting with his hands before he walked over to the sofa.

Leaning down, he picked Julian up and settled him onto the sofa next to him. "Tell me what is on your mind, buddy." Because he could tell something was going on.

The idea of asking Hunter for something when he'd broken rules was intimidating to Julian, but he knew that he needed to ask if he could keep the puppy he'd found. And he would have to explain how he'd found the puppy. A part of him wondered if it would be easier to tell Wendell, but there was something that told him Hunter was the way to go. He was too young to understand what it was just yet, but it was there. He shrugged his shoulders a little bit and looked down at his hands.

"First tell me what you did wrong. If you explain that then we can talk about what you want." Because he knew what was coming, he just didn't know the specifics. "It's all right, Julie."

Julian brought his knees up to his chest and he could feel a lump in the back of his throat. He was scared because punishments from his Mom and her boyfriend had always been so severe, and while he loved his new home, it was hard to forget how things use to be sometimes. He sniffed a little bit and rubbed at one of his eyes with his fingers. "I went into the woods but I didn't mean to."

"Well how did you go in if you didn't mean to?" He pulled Julian closer to him so he could wrap his arm around him and he kissed the top of his head. "The woods can be very dangerous." He didn't want to scare him but he wanted him to be aware of the dangers.

"I was playing," Julian mumbled softly as he leaned against Hunter, but he was still tense. "I just was playing and then I was in the woods and I was gonna come back but I saw a puppy by the river and he was hurt. So I took him to Jacob because he helps hurt things and I thought he could help the puppy."

"Next time you need to be more aware of your surroundings, okay buddy?" He rubbed his hand up and down his back, trying to comfort him. "Im not mad, I just want you to be careful, okay?"

Julian couldn't help but feel anxious about confessing having done something wrong. He was so use to being punished even when he was good that confessing to being bad was scary for him. He looked up at Hunter tearfully and sniffed a little bit. "Are you gonna make me take a ice bath like my Mama did?" he asked meekly. "It hurts."

"You are never gonna have to take an ice bath." He scooped Julian up into his arms and hugged him tightly. "I wouldn't hurt you, Julian. You know better than to go into the woods but it was an accident, you just need to be more careful next time."

Julian wrapped his arms around Hunter's shoulders as tightly as he could manage and he buried his face against the man's shoulder. He still felt uneasy, but he trusted Hunter. The man hadn't hurt him before, and he had a calming quality about him. "Okay," he said softly in between sniffs. "I'm sorry, Papa."

"It's all right little wolf." he kissed the side of his head and rubbed his hand up and down his back. "Do you want to keep the puppy? I could help you take care of him if you'd like. Or Ever could. He raised Duke up from a puppy."

Julian nodded his head a little bit before he pulled back and rubbed his eye. There were two little wet marks on Hunter's shirt from tears, but they were small. "I wanna keep him," he said softly. "I think he might make Miah feel better."

"Maybe he will. Miah was feeling a little better because he talked to Joshua. I bet the puppy will make him feel even better." he smiled a little. "What kind of puppy is he?"

"I dunno," Julie said with a little shrug, and his hand dropped from his eye to curl against Hunter's shoulder. "He is reddish brown and he has white paws. His face is kinda wrinkly right here," he added as he pointed at his forehead. He furrowed his brow in an attempt to make it wrinkly like the puppy's.

"Like a hound dog?" Hunter smiled a little bit and he kissed Julie's forehead where he had pointed. "You can talk to Miah about what you want to name him and we can go to town and get him stuff. Toys and a bed and what not."

Julian shook his head, "No, like a... I dunno," he shrugged. The puppy was a boxer but he didn't know that. "You will just have to see him. I am gonna let Miah name him, he will like that. When can we go to town? I wanna show Miah him first so we know what his name is. Jacob took me to get him a few things but I wanna get him more."

"We can go whenever you'd like." he smiled and kissed his cheek again before leaning back so that he could let Julian climb down.

Julian gave him a little hug, though to him it was a very big one, and he kissed Hunter's cheek back. He liked how scruffy it felt and it made him laugh a little bit. "I love you," he said happily before he moved to crawl down off of the man's lap. "I'mah go find Miah!" he added before he left the room in search of his brother.

Miah was sitting in the living room with his blankie, just sort of mindlessly watching tv because he could. He had gotten a little livelier but he was still pretty down about things.

Julian found him easily and he went to go sit down next to his brother. "Hi," he said as he reached out to smooth down Miah's hair. "I have a surprise, you wanna see it?"

"Yeah." Miah pulled his thumb out of his mouth and he slid off of the couch and held onto his blanket. "What is it?"

"It's a surprise," Julie said as he hopped down from the couch and took Miah's hand. "We have to put on our shoes cause it's at Jacob's house."

"All right." he wouldn't mind walking over there for a surprise. "That would be nice."

Julian helped Miah get his shoes on, then he slipped on his own. It was getting colder out so he got Miah into a jacket and pulled his own on before he took his brother's hand again. "C'mon, you will like it," he smiled as he led the way to Jacob's. "We gotta be quiet cause the baby might be asleep," he said as they got to the laundry room door. He gently pushed it open and let Miah go in first before he shut the door. The little puppy had been sleeping but he woke up when the door opened and he was wagging his tail a little from the pile of blankets he was settled in.
