Kenneth let out an inhuman snarl and started after the boy. He was starting to get annoyed with how hard Shannon was to kill. He enjoyed a good game of cat and mouse, but the fact that he'd failed once was testing his patience. He thundered up the stairs after the fox.
Varick had been engrossed in a conference call, bluetooth in one ear, his finger in the other to prevent himself from getting distracted. This call was one of those career changing type. He was going to change firms, and he was negotiating the terms of the move. But he couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong downstairs and he excused himself from the call, heading to the top of the stairs. When he got there, he met Shannon and grabbed him. "What's wrong--why--" but he didn't have to finish that question because he could smell the reek of Kenneth and his heart seized with fear and fury.
