Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
open to Wendell and Joshua

It had been snowing pretty heavily the past few days, and Julie was all bundled up and ready to play in the cold white fluff now that the storm had passed. With a sweater on, a snow suit, boots, mittens, a coat, scarf, and hat he was busy rolling a ball of snow around as best as he could to build a snowman for Hunter and Wendell. Miah was helping, looking for rocks for the snowman's eyes.

Miah knew better than to go into the woods, but most of the good rocks were there, and he reasoned with himself that Wendell and Hunter would appreciate the snowman more if it was made with good rocks instead of bad ones. So he ventured into the woods, going in a little ways but not so far that he couldn't still see Julian if he looked back at him.

Julian's cheeks were a rosy color as he worked to roll the snowball around, which felt like it was as big as him. He was a little tired so he decided to take a break as he wiped at his nose with his scarf. "Miah?" he called out. "You can't go in the woods."

"There's better rocks in here!" Miah called out as he went a little bit farther. He'd found one shiny black one that was nearly a perfect circle and now he was trying to find its match. "Come in here and help me look, I found one, but I can't find another one."

Julian turned to look at the porch of the house where he could see Hunter doing dishes in the window. He decided to go fetch Miah on his own and took off, his little legs taking awkward strides because of his snow suit. He looked like a bobble head as he caught up to his little brother and held out a mittened covered hand. "Hurry, we're not spose to be out here."

Miah had gotten all the way up close to the stream and he was leaned down, trying to reach for a rock that he could see just on the edge of the water. "Look what I found!" He stood up and held the two rocks up in his hands so that Julian could see, but as he turned his foot was too close to the ledge and the dirt gave way, causing him to fall backwards right into the water.

The river was a little iced over thanks to the snow and cold, but once Miah fell back onto it, the ice gave way and Miah started to go downstream towards the part of the river that had unthawed. When Julie saw him fall in he ran forward and reached out to try and grab a hold of him. "Miah!" he cried out as he tried to get a hold of his brother, but he ended up falling into the water too. He couldn't swim very well because on top of not knowing how, he was too bundled up. He managed to grab a hold of Miah though as he thrashed in the water and did his best to keep his head above it. But the cold hurt so bad and reminded him of his mother and the ice baths, and he started to panic.

Miah flailed until Julian caught up to him and then he just held onto his brother as best he could, kicking his little legs frantically to keep his head above the surface. For as scared as he was he was quiet, hardly able to even make a sound outside of grunting from the effort and whimpering from the cold.

Julian wanted to cry but he was simply too cold and he was too focused on trying to get the hell out of the water. He whimpered and tried to swim, but he and Miah were tiny and the current was strong. His head went underwater a few times, and when it came back up his lungs were aching and he couldn't see. The river had taken them pretty far down stream.

By the time the current slowed down and they were spit out against the dirty bank. Miah just laid there, freezing and upset. His little body was shaking and he couldn't even manage to get himself turned over.

It was sheer adrenaline and determination that the two were able to keep a hold of one another through the current. When the water slowed and they washed up on te bank, Julie was exhausted, terrified, and traumatized. His little body was so cold he couldn't really feel anything but numbing pain and the second he was on solid ground he started to wail loudly in panic. He was so upset, and his body needed to generat heat that before he realized what was happening his body was forcing itself into a painful premature shift. He started to scream in pain as he let go of Miah.

When Julian started screaming Miah started to panic too. He couldn't turn over in the snow suit and his heart started racing harder and the shift started in him, prompted by his brother's. He started screaming finally, pained by the way it felt for all of his bones to be breaking this way.

When Julie heard Miah crying and screaming, he started to panic even more. He was resisting the shift, not really understanding what was going on, which made it even more painful. He sobbed loudly as he tried to crawl closer to Miah, and soon all was quiet. Soon a tiny wolf pup, all white with blue eyes like Joshua, poked his head out of the pile of clothes and snow gear.

Miah stayed tucked down in the snow gear once his shift was over, he was terrified and had no idea what was going on. He was a tiny black pup, smaller than Julian, and completely black with the exception of one white diamond on his snout. He poked his head out after a moment or two and when he saw julian he didn't know what to think.

Julian was just as confused as Miah. He blinked a few times before he crawled out of his pile of clothes and went over to lik at Miah's face. Even confused, he knew that this little wolf was important to him.

Miah whimpered and he pushed his face against Julian's. His little tail was wagging a mile a minute and he stayed as close to his brother as he tried to curl up a little bit.

Julie curled up next to Miah, trying to warm the other with his own body heat. He whimpered softly, not really sure what else to do. He felt lost, and he didn't like it.

When Hunter realized the boys were gone he came out into the backyard and followed their scent into the woods. When he heard them screaming he went running down the side of the creek, moving to the sound as fast as he could. He slowed to a stop when he saw the tiny pups and all of the boys' clothing. He hadn't even realized they could shift that young without being full blooded, like Austin and himself.

When Julian saw Hunter, there was something he recognized and he felt a strong pull. He got to his feet and wobbled before he sank down on his butt, and he tipped his head back to let out a teeny howl.

Hunter frowned and he reached down to scoop both of the boys up. He held them both in one arm and he grabbed their wet clothing with the other hand before heading back towards the house. He had no idea how long they were going to be like this but he knew that he needed tos how Wendell and figure out what he was going to do with them.

When Hunter scooped them up, Julian's tail wagged happily and he licked at Hunter's cheek. He squirmed around and tried to get closer to Hunter as he whimpered.

Miah did the same and he just sighed as he got back to the house. Once at the back door he put them down on the ground and let them into the house. What the hell was he going to do with them now?

Once Julie was on his feet, he tried to take off, but ended up sliding on the hardwood floor. He skidded around on his butt and looked up at Hunter while he barked, but they sounded more like yaps.

Hunter went over and he picked him back up. He grabbed miah too and went and put them on the sofa and he settled down onto one end so that they could just crawl around and play a little.

Holden came through the front door so that he could give Miah a drawing he'd promised him. He headed into the living room and when he saw Hunter with two tiny pups, he arched a brow. "Um..."

Hunter just sighed and he looked down at the puppy in his lap and he looked over at Holden again. "The black one is Jeremiah. You may take him if you'd like." He had no idea what to do with the puppies, he needed tos peak to Wendell.

"That's Jeremiah?" Holden asked as he put the drawing down. It was a cutesie ankle version of Miah. Holden wasn't an artist like Aryk or Robin, but he could draw cute little pictures when he was asked. He plucke the little black wolf up and looked at him. "How did this happen?"

Jeremiah's little tail wagged back and forth so hard it shook his whole body in Holden's hands. He wanted to be close enough to lick him and he was squirming in his hands. "I thnk they fell into the creek and panicked an shifted."

"That can happen?" Holden asked in shock as he drew Miah closer to him so that he didn't drop the squirming pup. "I thought only you and Austin could do that?"

"Yeah, I thought so too, but I guess that I was wrong. I just heard screaming and I ran outside and found them like this. I don't even know how to turn them back without hurting them."

Julie pounced up onto Hunter's chest and licked at his jaw. Holden had a seat with Miah in his lap, and he scratched behind the little guy's ears. "They're so small..."
