Cinna Thompson had almost single handedly pulled the prom together. The ballroom was decorated with festoons of floating flowers. Stars hung from the ceiling, each set to sparkle as if they were properly in the sky. The outskirts of the room were set with small round tables that could accommodate one or two couples. A table of refreshments was guarded at all times by Seamus Morgendorfer and a rotating cast of other faculty who volunteered to chaperon for the evening.
A glittery ballot box stood next to the entrance where students were set to write down their chosen prom king and queen and drop their tickets into the box. Students began to stream in after dinner to quiet music playing over the speakers. The band, a local group called Vampira was scheduled to begin playing around 7:30.
Needless to say it was going to be an excellent evening.

But then, she'd already put herself through the ordeal of dress shopping, so she might as well finish up the rest of the experience. When Luka came to get her though... well, she was a little surprised.
"Wow. Have I never seen you dressed up before?"
"And no, you don't get to find out what I'm wearing instead."
The walk from her dorm to Dresden Hall was a little farther than his, but it was a pleasant evening for a stroll.
"Oh, I don't think I asked. Did you change your core for the fall?"
"I did change my core. I still don't have a focus, but there's just nothing else Anderson can teach me in Transfig. So Walsh gets me for a semester." She grinned. "Be still my heart?"
He looked at her a bit in disbelief. "You've got brass balls as big as his if you want to mentor with him." He clapped her on the back more like she was one of the boys he was proud of than his prom date. "That's rock solid awesome."
Then he smirked at her. "Maybe some of your awesome will rub off on him and he won't be so terrifying."
"Let's get our pictures and then find the drink table. I wonder if there are chaperons about this early." Because, obviously, he had a flask stashed in his jacket.
As for the chaperones... she peered around him into the ballroom. "Morgendorfer the Masculine is about. And Fortin, but he looks like he's about ready to spike the punch before anyone else does... If you can get around Cinna, you might be golden."
He stood in the area for pictures and broke out his dimples for the occasion. He leaned in just as he was about to snap the picture and placed a salacious kiss on Addy's cheek.
"We don't have to share," he said quietly. "We can just find a teacher free spot and trade shots until we're golden."
Maybe they should find that teacher free spot. She could use a shot or two of liquid social aid.
"What makes you think you're not a real date?" Then he smirked a bit and bumped her with his hip.
Not unless you wanted to be 'more than friends', and Luka had never had a sexual thought about her in his life. Then she pulled a face, because that was just disturbing to think about.
