Kurt grabbed the wide broom with his hands and the dustpan with his tail, tackling the leftover food and cups where the dazzled audience left them on the ground and next the seats. Piotr and Svetlana were already handling the next section, bickering like it was the only way to get air in their lungs. Kurt chuckled and collected the candies and popcorn into small hills, scooping them up to dump in the compost bins with a happy hum. He had been allowed to do a spinning and tumbling fall into a solid 'mirror', flashing lights and gunpowder disguising a well-timed bamf to have him appear on the other side of the looking glass, completely unharmed. He had enjoyed the stunned gasps and cheers and paused in his clean up to bask in the echoing cheers. During his reverie, however, he could hear the stomping and grunting of ringmaster Getmann and Kurt frantically weighed out hiding or not. He would certainly not be happy about Kurt using his tail in his chores, that was certain. Once Herr said his tail was lewd and indecent and Kurt couldn't understand for the life of him what that meant. It was a tail! It took Misha the Bearded Lady explained in laughing terms for him to understand and he couldn't look at his own tail for weeks after without blushing. Which the other ladies found out about and kept giggling at him. But as for now, if Getmann found Kurt shirking his chores, he'd be livid, so hiding wouldn't work. Kurt decided to drop the pan and sweep like Piotr was, determined to not be seen as lazy. However, the ringmaster stormed off in another direction, not coming into the tent, and Kurt sighed in relief. What had gotten into him to be so cross after closing, Kurt wondered.

Shortly after the ringmaster stormed off a woman entered the tent. Not one that was ever seen at the circus, she looked like she'd just stepped out of a fashion magazine. Impeccably dressed, all white without a smudge of dirt, and managing to walk to center ring on impossibly small heels, Emma Frost managed to convey her disdain for the place with just the way she walked, she was above all of this, afterall, she was a Frost. The woman walked to the center of the ring, the whole time watching Kurt beneath her sunglasses. Blue fur, demonic-looking boy, it was a change from the mutants she usually ran into. To be honest, she didn't have much experience with mutants with physical mutations. The hellfire club didn't take them really, and she hadn't run into many. But the tip off from his foster mother was good, and he had useful powers, not to mention he'd also be a good addition to the class as a very vivid example of just how badly humans treated their kind. She didn't once look to Piotr and Svetlana, just staring at Kurt once she'd made her full stop. Those two got a telepathic command to get them to leave the tent, and the woman in white stayed observing Kurt while they did just that. When they finally left, a voice rung clearly across the tent, though her mouth didn't move and it echoed inside his head. Hello Kurt.

Kurt jumped when he heard a voice in his head, looking up in surprise. Were they messing with the sound equipment again? It was then he caught the white-clad lady in the ring and had a new panic attack. The audience was supposed to have left, did one of them sneak back in? Usually it was children, not grown-ups and certainly not dressed like that. He looked for the others in the seats to handle the talking but realized in dread he was alone. Tail lying limp as a pretend costume, he walked down to the second row with the broom in hand and seats in front of his lower half. As long as he played it like he was still in his circus gear and stayed far enough away, it could work. " Hello? I am sorry, you cannot be in here, please leave.," he explained in German. Maybe she was a reporter, in case he really didn't want to talk to her. He had to get Margali or someone else to handle her. On closer scrutiny, she didn't look like a reporter. More like a Hollywood actress. He tried again in English. "Allo? Excuse me, but the show is over, you cannot be in here."

No verbal response came from the mystery woman, just a perfectly shaped eyebrow raised beneath those sunglasses and a vaguely amused smile. There's no need to hide like that darling. It's just us here. And I'm not worried about your tail. She shook her head with that haughty amused smile. The thoughts from that vile little ringmaster about the boy's tail were ridiculous yet amusing if only because of the way she could see the boy had responded to it. Your mother sent for me. Tell me Kurt, how would you like to get away from that awful Herr Getmann? And to go outside and walk amongst all the humans without them making a dreadful fuss? Emma took off the sunglasses and walked towards him with a smile and strut that was nothing if not confident. I can give you all that. And more.picword: Emma Frost (bitches) |

He promptly did not think about the tail thing, and cautiously stepped out of the way of the seats to not be hiding as much. No reason to be concealing himself so much if the cat was out of the bag, if digitigrade legs and a tail didn't shock the stranger. He did quickly check the doors in case this was to catch and record him. Some outsiders were very nosy. You talk in people's heads? My mother sent you? Margali must have thought the situation with Getmann was bad enough to orchestrate this. But what exactly was a lady like this going to do? He looked outside suspiciously, contemplating what she was asking in case this was going to be a trick. Getmann is... difficult, yes. Leaving him would be nice. But the other thing, I don't think that will happen anytime soon. He squinted warily, not sure of a deal that sounded too good to be true but too curious to just turn the offer down. It wasn't like he could stay in the circus forever. How? Who are you?

Nobody is going to record you darling She said into his head to put the unvoiced worries at ease. She'd been told what his physical mutations were, and had seen images in the minds of others but those were always through other people's eyes and never fully accurate. Well...problematic aspects to his appearance certainly, but that teleporting ability...now that she wanted. I am Emma Frost. A mutant, like yourself, and I can do many things Kurt. Talking in your head is only the most minor of them. She walked up to the first row, still somehow without a smudge on her pristine white outfit. You mother did send me Kurt, because she knows I can make good on my offers. Would you like a preview of one of them? Step down here darling, we'll walk outside, and not one person will blink at your appearance. I'll show you what they see, and you'll understand. Come.Emma half turned and waved him down as she began walking to the tent entrance.

Seemed like she could read thoughts as well, which was a little disconcerting, but he tried to keep that thought quiet so as not to be rude to the strange and pretty blonde. Mutant, the science-technical term for freak, though the latter held no venom after being raised by a clan of them. She certainly didn't look like a mutant. Pursing his lips in skeptical doubt, he wanted to mention he was very much certain what would happen and no amount of nice clothes (maybe she repelled dust from sticking to white clothes, no one wore white in the circus for a reason) and pretty next to him was going to detract from his form. What was she going to do, tell people in their minds nevermind the blue furry guy with a tail? Still, curiosity was the larger part of a teenaged mind and he hopped over the railing, standing up to silently follow her towards the entrance. picword: lurking in the shadows |

It was a common thought when faced with a telepath for the first time, and she did what she always did when that concern popped up in minds. Namely, ignore it. Not all mutants look different, darling. We all have different abilities, how these manifest changes per person. She turned only briefly to see him follow her before heading out of the tent, blue elf in tow. And yes darling, something like that. A fun bit of telepathy she'd picked up early, make people see what you wanted them to see. And in this case she'd dug into his mind and taken the image of what he thought and wished he'd looked like if he were normal. The only odd looks they got were aimed at her, a woman so clearly out of place and above all this that she stuck out. Not one paid anything more than a glance at Kurt as they walked by. She led him to the cleanest pane of glass in the place (which was most certainly not up to any of her standards of cleanliness), the ticket stands and stood him in front of it, his reflection visible in the glass as she made him see what she'd been making everyone else around see all night, the normal non-demonic teen boy. That, darling, is what they've all been seeing. That is what I can offer you, I have the resources to get you something that will make everyone see the image of you that you want them to see. Until then, I have the power to do it for you. You won't need to hide, and no human will dare hurt you. What do you say?picword: Emma very blonde |

The outside light smacked him in the eyes and he squinted to adjust before bracing for... nothing. No one was gasping or anything at them as they walked out of the tent. Maybe white dress-suits were that distracting. She didn't act like she noticed the odd looks, but maybe she was used to being so striking. She certainly was used to the heels, he had to keep balance to keep up. When she pointed to the window, the shock was like a baseball bat to the chest. Skin and not fur, and not blue at all, not even the shaggy hair. The eyes were wide in surprise, but there were whites surrounding the brown irises. Stepping forward, he could see the image had the same slouch as him, but it was more of a impudent teen and less a center of gravity thing. He rubbed his jaw and though he saw four fingers go up to do it in the reflection, he could feel the fur not seen with only two. Tilting his face from side to side, he couldn't help the mess of emotions churning in him as he saw a normal human face on a normal teenaged boy. You can do this? he asked in a stunned and amazed tone. Can it be permanent?picword: holo! shocked hand up |

A slow smile spread as she leaned down to more Kurt's height and watched him figure out the reflection trick. Like I said, I can do many things. She straightened up, slightly smug smile to herself. It was easy to know what to put with the offer when you could dig into your target's head. So she'd given him a taste of what he wanted, now all she had to do was reel him in. I have a school Kurt, one for mutants such as ourselves. And I want you in my first class. Come with me and you'll be free of that horrible ringmaster, safe from humans hounding you, and I'll have a device made just for you, so you can look like this, or however you want, when you so choose. Until then, I can do so with my powers. That's the offer, darling. Will you take it?

She probably wouldn't have needed telepathy to read his desires, his case was pretty obvious to anyone. What do I have to do, to be in your school? he asked quietly, prying his gaze from the normal Kurt to her and her smiling. Because as badly as he could want this, to look normal, and the freedom to be in public, Margali had always warned him about the price of favors and 'gifts'. (And as a sorceress, she could make a compelling argument when she wanted.) And there were news articles now and then about terrorists or unexplainable attacks that made no sense with normal troops. I don't want to steal, or hurt people. I don't like terrifying people, either. Not even for this, he resigned to himself and looked down at the skin-covered hands out of his sleeves. picword: holo! bewildered |

All you need to do is agree darling. I promised your mother I could provide a safe haven for you. Do you really think she'd call me if I was going to have you going around stealing from people? Please. A Frost doesn't steal, we pay for everything, because we can and we are most certainly not thieves or beggars.Inwardly she was rolling her eyes. The innocent naivety of youth. No hurting or terrifying people? After all the treatment he'd received from humans? Oh they were beneath mutants, but the boy would have to learn and realize that on his own. She had. For now she'd have to tone that part down for him, but soon he and the other two would learn. No there'd be no hurting people who didn't deserve it...but then again, many people did deserve it. Shaw in particular. Kurt would be a useful addition, and if he had a connection to Raven Darkholme too...well he'd be more likely to stay. But that would be confirmed later. This is a school place I'm offering, Kurt. Terrifying and hurting others for no reason is not on the list. This is a chance for you to escape the limits they put on you because of how you were born. We are mutants, and we are better, far better, than they think. And there is no reason for you to not reach your potential because of them. She leaned back and surveyed him. I leave tonight darling. It's your decision.

He felt a little guilty about being suspicious over her intentions and slouched a little, chastised by her answer. Here was someone offering a better chance at life and he was thinking the worst case scenarios, imagining press gangs. Sorry, it's just you hear about nightmare strike forces with man-bears or thieves that walk through vaults and stuff. They can't all be stories, after all. Like other freak shows where the performers and animals weren't treated well, or gypsies stealing kids, neither of which happened here, but still, rumors lingered. And maybe, he could learn something to make it better, even if he wasn't sure what 'it' he meant. Yes. He nodded at her, serious as possible. I would like to join your school, Miss Frost. He would want to say good bye to Margali and some of the other clan members, but between that and packing quickly, it wouldn't take him too long to get ready. Tonight. He'd leave his foster mother and go somewhere new and unknown with the elegant woman with superpowers.

She gives him a smile, puts her hand on his shoulder and leans down to be eye-level, all while underneath revelling in the victory. Perfectly understandable darling. It's wonderful to have you in the school. Now, I'll give you time to pack and say your goodbyes, we'll meet at my car when you're done. Don't worry about the ringmaster, I'll handle him. Those rumours were truer than he realized, and now that mutants were slowly coming more into the public eye...a school for them was needed now more than ever. She'd have another chat with the ringmaster, she hated even touching that man's mind but it was far preferable than having to talk to that dreadful half-wit. But mission accomplished, another addition to her first class. Perfect.
