Monday mornings were the worst. Natasha always stayed up too late on Sunday nights and come Monday morning she was always dragging. Nothing helped her more than that first cup of coffee. The best coffee in the city was at a small local coffee shop in Hell's Kitchen just around the corner from her apartment. Natasha could live in a penthouse, her Russian handlers would have provided her one, but an office assistant would not make enough to afford a penthouse. She had to live within the means her cover would be making. Natasha gave her usual order to the barista and walked over to the counter where it would be served. She heard her name called, grabbed the cup and turned around to go.

Matt's radar sense made it virtually impossible for him to be unaware of what was going on around him and it took a concentrated effort sometimes to remember that to the rest of the world, he was supposed to be a blind man. It meant a thousand little tricks of pretending to be more helpless than he really was. Of course, sometimes, he faked it a little bit more than usual. Karen seemed to like thinking he needed taking care of. Some days, he was inclined to oblige. In this particular case, with the women turning a little too quickly, it meant stumbling just a bit as he reached for his coffee, making a show of hanging on to his cane with his free hand. "Oh. Ah, excuse me."

Natasha wasn't normally so clumsy, she could make the most graceful of people look clumsy, but it was Monday morning and she hadn't had her coffee yet. Said coffee just went flying and splashing all over a blind man. Without thinking she swore in Russian and immediately grabbed for some napkins. "I am /so/ sorry," she said as she grabbed napkins. She started wiping the coffee off of the man. "I hope I didn't burn you." picword: Thinking - Comic |

The coffee was hot against his skin, yes, but fortunately protected by enough layers of his suit that it didn't burn by the time it reached him. It was the smell that threatened to overpower him before he got himself mentally focused. The Russian caught his attention for a moment, but in a city like New York, that was hardly uncommon. He managed a small smile. "Quite all right," he said. "Accidents happen. How bad is it?"

Natasha continued to wipe off his clothes and didn't miss the firm muscles under the clothes. It made her smile a bit. "Dry cleaning should be able to remove the stains, though coffee can be tricky. I'll cover the dry cleaning and if the stain doesn't come out, I'll replace them." Natasha didn't embarrass easily, but this had embarrassed her. picword: With Boobs - Photo |

The woman was fit, Matt could tell that much, between his radar sense and listening to her breathing and heartbeat. Both were signs of someone in excellent shape. "It's quite all right," he insisted. "Though I suppose I could always just sue this place. Sorry, lawyer joke."

Natasha smiled a bit while she finished wiping the coffee off of his clothes. "Funny, you don't look like a lawyer."

"Lawyers are usually more uptight looking, stuffy and older," she said. "You're not any of those."

"Perhaps so," she said. "Natalie Roman," she said and extended a hand before realizing that he couldn't see it. She gently took his right hand with hers and gave it a shake. picword: With Boobs - Photo |

Matt knew that it was coming, but feigned a bit of surprise at the sudden grab. A real blind person would have been taken by surprise, after all. "Matt Murdock," he said.

"A pleasure, Mr. Murdock," she said. His hands were calloused and rough, not the hands of a person who sat behind a desk all day. "I am truly sorry about the coffee." picword: Dressed up - Comic |

He shook his head. "Don't worry about it," he said again. "I keep a spare suit at the office, just in case of blindness-related fashion emergencies."

"Perhaps you will let me make it up to you by taking you out to dinner?" Natasha was curious. What did a lawyer do to have calloused hands? She wanted to know and know him better.

Hmm. Had her heart rate skipped when she'd told him her name? He wasn't certain, and it was possible the coffee fumes were overwhelming him still and making it harder to get a deeper read. Yes, Matt, I'm sure she's some government agent sent to learn all your secrets. He chided himself for his suspicion. He smiled. "I think that'd be all right," he said. "Thank you."

Natasha smiled. "You're welcome. If you'll give me your phone I'll enter my number in it. That way you can call me when you have time to go to dinner."

Matt handed over his phone, unlocking it. "I've got the vibrations set a bit high on the keypad, but you should still be okay with it."

"I'm good," she told him. Natasha entered her phone number. "It's under R for Roman." When she was done she handed the phone back to him.

Natasha laughed. "I'm looking forward to it. I should be going. Can't be late." With that Natasha started to head out of the coffee shop.
