The constant pounding in his head would not shift and had been there since his father was admitted to the hospital almost a week ago. Maybe it was a week, Dominic didn't know, he had lost track of time. There hadn't been any change in his father's condition although there was a new Healer on his case - well, trainee Healer, Bell wasn't completely qualified just yet.

Dominic hadn't spoken a word to the younger girl while she made her rounds, letting his mother ask all the quearies and then sending Bell on her way. It suited Dominic just fine to sit in the corner quietly and let the Healer do her job, which is what he was doing now. His mother had stepped out to go to the tea room upstairs, leaving Dominic and his father alone when Bell arrived to do her check-ups. However, the headache was unbearable.

He knew all he need do was ask and Bell would be able to allieviate it for him. But that could possibly send out the false message that he wanted a conversation - which wasn't all that appealing to one with a migrane. Pinching the bridge of his nose and then rubbing his thumb and forefinger outward over his closed eyes he let out a sigh of slight frustration.

"Bell," He spoke uncharacteristically in a soft tone. Eyes still closed and hand resting on his forehead. "Do you have anything for a headache?"

Katie had been assigned a new patient earlier in the week, a Mr Montague. When she has heard his name she worried that Dominic had been injured, but it turned out it was his father after he had been moved from another ward. Katie was taking less time between shifts as her patient's problem was unknown, they were assuming a curse as the previous ward had found nothing.

Entering to the room, Katie glanced at the chair in the corner, she knew who usually ocupied it and also knew said occupier hadn't left the hospital since he had arrived. Sending a small smile that way, Katie picked up Mr Montague's chart from the bottom of the bed and began to run the required tests. Writing down everything with deep concentration, she really didn't want to make a mistake.

Turning as her name was spoken Katie set the chart back down where it belonged, her patient's condition still the same. Whispering she bet down infront of Dominic, "How long have you head it?" she was a little concerned. She doubted the man before her had been sleeping or eating properly and she needed to know some details before she could just hand out a potion.

Dominic slowly opened his eyes after the younger woman spoke, his mother's coaching on how a gentleman acts in society dictating he make eye contact with those he was talking unless he wanted to be considered rude. He noticed the concern in her eyes but wrote it off as naught but a Healer concerned for the well being if her paitent.

"A week," he murmured, still speaking in low, hushed tones. "Became worse on Sunday. After the game." The shouting at his teammates had done nothing to ease the throbbing. In fact, it had made it worse. His headache had eased a little when Marcus turned up at the hospital and he felt a little of the pressure having to burden his father's illness on his own. (His mother didn't really count - she was even more stressed out than he was).

Looking around the room quickly, Katie lifted her wand muttered a spell to lower the lights. She knew that a headache could lead to light sensitivity and the lights in the hospital were not always nice on the eyes.

Reaching up Katie pressed the back of her hand to Monty's forhead, just too see if he was overly warm. "Have you been sleeping and eating properly?" she questioned, her voice still low and soft.

Katie knew the way pureblood families worked, she knew that with his father ill, Monty was known as the man of the house. It meant that everything, all the decisions, fell to him and that would be adding extra stress as well as that due to his fathers illness to his life, something that was bound to take its toll if he wasn't getting any sleep.

He was grateful when the lights dimmed and his gaze became less squinted. The hand against his head felt cool and quite nice against his slightly heated skin. He didn't have a high temperature, but he was warmer than normal.

"Define properly," Dominic answered back, his voice with a slight sarcastic edge to it. "A few hours here and there." He shrugged, trying to sound like he wasn't bothered by it. "Although, don't know how anyone could eat properly with the stuff the hospital consider food."

It was a true sign of how tired he trully was the amount he was talking. Montague rarely gave a three word sentence unless he was talking about something he was passionate about. However, like most, he was prone to ramble a little when overly tired.

Katie watched Monty as the lights dimmed, noticing his eyes relaxing a little. She had been trained to notice little details during her healer training. Humming slightly when she realised Monty was a little warm, Katie lightly chewed on her bottom lip.

A soft sigh escaped Katie's lips as she listened to Monty. She knew a pain potion would have little or no affect on his current state. "No, the food here isn't much cop really. But there is a nice little cafe one block down on the muggle world."

Taking a gamble Katie held a hand out for Monty. "Come on, you need to get some proper sleep in a proper bed. That is what will help your headache. You are exhausted, mentally and physically. I promise, should their be any change in your fathers condition I will come get you straight away."

Dominic nodded as she spoke, taking on board the new found knowledge that there was decent food within the area. Of course, his mother wouldn't agree that anything from the muggle world could be decent. But to Dominic, good food was good food, no matter whether made by Muggle hand or wizarding.

He looked down at the hand briefly, his social awkwardness coming into play. He wasn't exactly a hand holding person but he figured the gesture was only meant to serve as a guiding hand for him. Dominic took Bell's smaller hand in his own and pushed himself up from his seat with his free hand. "Lead the way, Healer Bell."

Katie stood as she offered Monty her hand, feeling a little awkward as she just stood there for a few seconds. A small smile slipped onto her lips as the man before her took her hand. "This way," she continued to speak quietly, muttering a soft spell to dim the lights in the corridor until they were past them. "Oh, and please call me Katie."

Wandering along a couple of corridors Katie paused in front of a door marked, 'Healer-in-training'. She lifted her wand from her pocket and held it to the door until her name was inscribed on the little plaque. "You can sleep in here, it will be quiet and you won’t be disturbed. I have an eighteen hour shift today and am only a few hours into it, so you can sleep for a good while," she tugged on Dominic's hand until he was in the room before closing the door.

"I would give you a potion, but right now I doubt one would have much of an affect. I'll nip out to the little muggle cafe when I have a break come up and grab something for when you wake up."

He nodded at her request to call her Katie, feeling more than a little awkward. Dominic wasn't good was talking to people and given he actually had a small past (admittedly, one night) with Katie, it made the situation all the more awkward.

Dominic was quiet as she explained about her shift, the potion and the food, taking in the new surroundings. He suddenly remembered he still held Katie's hand and quickly let go of it, feeling embarrassed. He looked at his shoes for a moment, finding them fascinating and then back to Katie, knowing he was being rude by ignoring her.

"Sorry... er..." Dominic faultered for the right thing to say. "Thanks, Katie."

Katie smiled a little bit as she looked over at Monty. She had forgotten that he was holding her hand, it felt so normal, so when he dropped it, her hand slipped back into her uniform pocket. "You're welcome," Katie answered softly.

Stepping towards Dominic, Katie laid a hand on his shoulder and pressed against it lightly. "You should get some sleep, it will help. Trust me."

Katie knew sleeping was probably the last thing the man before her wanted to do, but if he didnt sleep, it would be him in a hospital bed before too long.

His instincts were to hit her hand away when she pressed it against his shoulder but deep down he knew the woman was only trying to help. So instead of shrugging out of her touch he froze a little and just let her leave it there - his own hands dangled numbly at his sides, not sure what he was suppose to do with them.

A small confused expression appeared on his face when Katie said to trust her. Trust wasn't something a Slytherin gave easily, even to their own kind. Especially when it was a Gryffindor asking for that trust.

"Okay," he replied, reverting to the seemingly default answer for the Montague/Flint cousins. Dominic turned and moved toward the narrow bed the room provided, sitting on it and testing it out before swinging his legs up and laying down.

He stared directly at Katie with a demanding look on his face, similar to one he'd give his Quidditch team when he was Captain. "You will tell me should anything happen." It wasn't a request - it was an order. Dominic didn't care if Katie wasn't the sort of girl who hated being ordered about. It was his father who was sick and he wanted to be sure he was in the know for everything.

Katie felt Monty tense as she laid a hand on his shoulder, but she ignored that fact. Applying a little pressure in an attempt to make him step backwards, for if he did his knees would connect with the bed that was in the room and she hoped he would take the hint.

Watching as Dominic sat on the bed, Katie couldn’t help the small smile that came to her lips. It seemed that the stubborn Slytherin was actually going to listen to her. “Of course, I will come get you straight away. But right now you need the sleep, or you will end up in a hospital bed from exhaustion.”

Taking a few steps back Katie spoke once more. “I will leave you to get some sleep and pop the food in when I get a break.”

Dominic nodded, a small look of gratitude crossing his face. Katie should feel honoured by the look because it was rare to see any emotion, let alone a positive one, out of the former Slytherin. Emotionally stunted was a good term to describe Dominic.

His head hit the pillow and finally the wave of exhaustion he had been trying to fight hit him at full force. His blue-grey eyes sliding closed before Katie finished her next sentence. "Thank you, Katie," he murmured sincerely, sleep almost taking over.

A few steady breaths and Dominic opened his eyes again, remembering something. "Look in my jacket pocket." He said cryptically, figuring if Katie was curious enough she'd do as she was told. "It's in my father's room. Make sure Mother doesn't see you. She might think you're stealing from me." He gave the Healer a rare smile and then rested his head against the pillow once more. Sleep was quick to take over.
