Who: George and Marcus
What: Sneaky visits and cheeseburgers
Where: St. Mungo's
When: Between the 5th and 6th December
Rating: Gen (maybe)
Status: Complete

It was nearly midnight and it was quiet in the hospital. Visiting hours were over long ago and there were only a few Healers left to look after the patients overnight. The time was perfect for George to ninja in and visit Marcus properly. He had been denied visiting rights because the hospital had a rule that family and those listed as next of kin were the only ones that could visit because they didn't want crazed fans annoying their famous patients.

It was fair enough, George supposed. After all, he wouldn't want some crazy fan bothering him when he was injured but George wasn't Marcus' fan. He wasn't family either, though. He was... well, actually, he wasn't sure what he was to Marcus. No matter.

George was a professional when it came to sneaking about. Probably how he and Fred got away with so much in school. He had lost count the amount of times they moved stealthily through Hogwarts and into hidden passages - there were only a handful on times they had been caught. Nearing the ward Marcus was in, George paused and flattened himself against a wall in the shadows as two Healers walk by in another corridor at the end of the one he was in. He counted to ten after they rounded a corner and then darted into the small private room Marcus had be moved into after his initial injuries were taken care of.

A soft smile appeared on his face at seeing the large slumbering figure in the bed. He approached silently and watched the sleeping features before him before deciding to wake the other man by wafting a brown paper bag past his nose. In the bag contained a cheeseburger with a warming charm on it - as well as a few others so the burger didn't go bad before Marcus could eat it.

"Wake up, Grumpy. Have a present for you."

Marcus had had enough of being in the hospital already and he'd only been conscious since 4pm. He'd been told that the tear in his lung had been repaired as had the broken rib that had torn it in the first place; so he couldn't understand what he was still doing there. His head had impacted sharply with the ground as he'd landed, which was why he'd been out cold since Saturday. He'd felt fine that afternoon when he'd woken, but Healers were cautious as a rule. So he had to stay, on his own, in an unfamiliar place.

He'd fallen to sleep again before they'd come round with dinner. It was surprising how tiring being unconscious was. Nothing has smelled very appetising, at least not until now. Was that melted cheese? Sniffing a little, the familiar voice lifted him out of his sleep and he opened his eyes slowly. Trying to focus in the dim light. 'Hi Twink,' a little smile curved his lips.

The little smile grew to a grin as George watched the older man awoke, moving the bag slightly out of Marcus' face so he didn't feel like George was trying to shove it up his nose or something. "Hi," he replied, voice soft so any nearby Healers didn't catch him. "How are you? Can you sit up? I brought you a present."

He placed the bag containing the cheeseburger onto Grumpy's lap once the other man was sitting up. "Don't tell your coach I brought it. He'd have my hide. I mean, I'm guessing all you Quidditch players are on a strict diet. But I thought one wouldn't hurt... besides, hospital food is gross." He was rambling, but he tended to do that when he was unsure.

George shifted on his feet a little as he stood beside Marcus' bed, unsure where he should sit. He would have liked to sit on the bed next to the Chaser but hospital beds were narrow - especially when a big person like Marcus was occupying it. He turned to the hard backed chair sitting next to the bed but not close like the chair next to Oliver's had been. George guessed it had previously been used by Marcus' cousin or one of his other relatives - close enough to see the Chaser was okay but not too close to imply a strong relationship.

Then again, it was just a chair. George was reading way too much into it.

'Hi.' He repeated his earlier greeting, nodding at the question as he eased himself to sit up against the pillows. 'I'm awake. Not unconscious.' Marcus grinned quickly at the mention of presents and looked down at the bag as it was dropped into his lap.

Sniffing again, he opened the bag and practically salivated at the sight. 'Cheeseburger.' Lifting the treat to his lips he paused before taking a bite and looked across at Twink. 'Have you eaten? You want some?' Watching as the red head shifted from foot to foot, he placed the burger back in it's wrapper and shifted over in the bed.

'Sit with me?' He knew George liked to snuggle and the bedside chair wasn't the comfiest, at least it didn't look it.

George chuckled a bit at Marcus' reactions to the cheeseburger, feeling genuinely pleased. He shook his head at the questions. "No, it's yours." He insisted, not feeling hungry at all despite not having anything to eat since dinnertime - even then he didn't have all that much. It wasn't that he was forgetting to eat, he just wasn't hungry.

As Marcus shifted over, George looked at the empty space created and then back up at the man before him. He hesitated a moment before moving to sit on the bed, kicking his shoes off without bothering to undo the laces before swinging his legs up onto the bed. He left a small gap between them, not wanting to cause the Chaser further injury.

"I'm glad you're awake." He said, not quite flat out admitting he had been worried but surely Grumpy would be able to get the hint. "Sorry I couldn't visit sooner. Or at a sane hour. Not family so..." He let the sentence trail off with a shrug. A small, slightly forced smile crossed his face to try and prove he wasn't bothered by it.

He smiled a little as George joined him on the bed, retrieving his burger, he took a bite and made a soft hum of appreciation at the taste. Much better than the hospital food, he was sure. Though probably not as healthy. Not that it mattered at the moment. He wasn't training just then and he could always run it off once he was released.

Licking a crumb from the corner of his lip, he glanced down at the gap between them and then up at Twink's face. 'I'm alright now. They fixed me.' He understood the sentiments behind the red head's words and smiled again a little. 'I'm glad too.' As the Gryffindor continued a familiar dent appeared between Marcus' brows. George wasn't family, but Marc knew he'd worried just as much as Min and Dotzy had, no doubt.

'Maybe I can get them to change that? If you wanted.' He lowered his gaze to look at the blankets, not really sure of his words. 'Put you on the next of kin list or whatever it is.' He lifted his eyes to meet George's then, 'do you want to tell people? Would your family be okay with you and a Slytherin?'

His eyes flicked briefly to the quick appearance of tongue licking away the crumb before focusing back on Grumpy's whole face. Getting the confirmation that Marcus was alright, George scooted a little closer, leg bumping against the older man's.

The forced smile faded a little when Marcus got that thoughtful yet almost confused look on his face. George called it the Grumpy thinking face. He licked his lips quickly in thought before biting on his bottom one, mulling over what Marcus suggested. It seemed so... well, serious. When did that happen?

"That's up to you, if you want me on the list." He replied honestly before smiling a little, trying to joke. "I mean, not as if stupid lists and rules stopped me before anyway. After all, here I am." He waved his hands a bit in a ta-da motion.

He dropped his hands again, becoming serious once more. His eyes watched the Chaser, trying to read his thoughts on the matter. They were loaded questions - ones George couldn't be a hundred per cent sure on the answer.

"Do you want to tell people?" George threw one of the questions right back at the Slytherin.

Smiling at the display, Marcus nodded, knowing rules rarely put off Twink. But still, surely just walking in was better than sneaking. 'I'll put you on the list.' Marcus decided, planning on telling the Healers in the morning. It made sense and it wasn't like he had a lot of people on the list. Just Min and his Aunt and Uncle.

Picking up the burger, he nibbled at it, just for something to do while he awaited the answer to his last questions. They were far more serious. He wasn't certain how George would answer either, something which made him uneasy. It was a big step to take, telling people about them, especially for Twink. Though quite a few of the Gryffindor's friends already knew about them.

Swallowing his mouthful, he answered as the question was turned on him. 'Dominic already knows, he saw us sneak off tat time at the club, obviously he wasn't as distracted by the blonde.' He risked a glance at George. 'He's my only family.'

"Okay," he replied simply, a little amused hint of a smile quirked his lips upward for a moment. His short answer was usually one of the Chaser's favourite words to revert back to. "You can be on my list too." George added - he'd get Tig to change it for him the next time she was at work. It was handy having friends that worked at St. Mungo's, he could get his records changed without filing the required paperwork to set it right. George wasn't a big fan of paperwork.

Telling his family was going to be a lot more difficult then telling his friends. His family tended to be a lot more protective and there was a definite issue of trust against Slytherins. Already he could see in his mind just who would blow up and yell, who would try to be rational, who would support him. The thought of being hated by any number of his family made him feel ill. Friends could come and go - but family, they meant everything.

He licked his lips, the only outward sign he'd show to say that he was not sure. But there was a determined look in his eyes as he nodded. "Alright." George keep his eyes on Marcus. "I'll tell them in the New Year. Give you plenty of time to set up your defenses and work out a battle strategy against them." Because knowing the Weasley clan, they'd all go on the attack in their own ways to make sure one of their own didn't get hurt. Marcus didn't have a lot of family to do that for him, so George wanted him to be prepared for what was to come.
