"Maybe I'll protect you today," Xavier said, taking Elodie's hand and getting to his feet. He towered above her and most of the other kids in school. "Sometimes you deserve to be treated like a lady too."

Xavier pressed an icepack to his eye and let his head rest against the wall as he waited for someone to come pick him and Elodie up from school. People didn't realize he was strong and Elodie was scrappy here yet. It meant lots of fights again.
He looked at Elodie sitting beside him and gave her a small smile. "You've still got some blood on your cheek," he said. "I never get why they're always so eager to hit me, but they object to hitting a girl. I'm more feminine than you."
