Antonia was disgruntled as she walked through the flat she lived in with her father and mother. She was wearing knee-high boots and a long jacket and was pouting as she poured herself a coffee. She looked at her father, who was already reading the sports page, and pouted at him a little more noticeably.

"Daddy." Antonia pushed down his paper, giving him a dire look. "Please don't make me go back to that school. You know I hate it there. Look at this uniform. I look ridiculous. They want me to wear mary jane shoes, Daddy. They're so ugly!"

Luka had been content to eat his breakfast and read the paper in peace, even when Antonia came into the room. He felt a bit like he could sense her pout through the paper, but he was going his best not to give in. Pansy had mentioned something about being a bit stricter with her. Even Luka had to admit that he did give in to her a lot.

He looked down at the boots Antonia had on and then set down his paper. "It's a good school, Antonia," Luka told her. "Your brothers went there. Your sister is there with you. She doesn't object to the shoes, and you don't seem to be wearing them anyway."

"It's not a good school. It's a lame school. Why can't I go to a normal college like Xavier did?" Antonia asked, pouting a bit more at her father. It almost always worked. "Mum only wants me to go there because it's the kind of school she went to."

She moved around and sat down beside her father. "And the uniform totally stifles my creativity and beauty as a young and fashionable woman in London."

"Xavier's parents didn't have the money to send you to the kind of school your mother went to," Luka pointed out. The pout was starting to work on him, which wasn't a good thing. Pansy needed to be here to enforce things. "I don't think you'd like going to a normal college."

He reached up and ruffled her hair. "You'll be a beautiful, creative, fashionable woman no matter what your school wants you to wear. It's the beginning of the semester. It's too late to transfer."

"No. It's not." Antonia had been doing her research. She reached into her backpack and pulled out the papers for a transfer to a normal school, looking up at her father. He'd have to agree.

"Look. I can still transfer until the fifteenth. That's a week from now and that's when normal college starts." She pouted. "Daddy, please. Don't let Mum win this. Doesn't my happiness matter?"

"You'll be happy at your current school, Antonia," Luka said, looking down at the transfer papers and sighing. "You haven't even been yet. Your sister seems perfectly happy there."

He took the papers from her and then put them down on the table. "Your mother and I are a team. You'll go to the first week of classes at your school and if you decide you still don't like it by the fifteenth, then we'll talk about you transferring somewhere else."

Antonia felt utterly depressed about it. She felt herself starting to cry, reaching up to wipe at her eyes, trying not to smear her makeup. She shook her head and looked at him.

"You always side with her." Antonia told him, sniffling. "Even though I'm completely miserable, you will always side with her. You never want to make me happy."

"Antonia, you know that's not true," Luka said, giving her a worried look. Sometimes he worried that they'd spoiled her just a little bit. "You're not losing anything by going to this school for a work if the other one doesn't start until the fifteenth."

Luka pulled his daughter into a hug, rubbing her back to soothe her. "I love you. You're a tough girl. You'll make it through one week."

"It doesn't matter if I'm a tough girl or not. I'm fifteen years old and that is plenty enough to make my own decisions. I'm tired of everyone treating me like a baby because I'm the youngest child around here. I am not a baby."

She pulled away from her father and grabbed her bag. "You know in a week you still won't let me transfer."

"I know you're not a baby, Antonia, but you need to give things a chance before you decide you hate them. Besides, you've never gone to public school before. I don't think you'd like it very much. Xavier and his friend Elodie were always getting into fights." Luka would probably end up beating a bunch of teenagers if anyone laid a hand on his daughter.

He patted her head. "In a week, we'll talk. I promise. I'll give the transfer papers to your mother to look at."

"Xavier and Elodie got into fights because they're monsters!" Antonia informed her father, shaking her head. "Not because they went to public school. You and I both know that Elodie more than likely started all those fights because she's foul."

Elodie shook her head. "Whatever. You don't care about my happiness."

"Xavier and Elodie got into fights because the people in public school will pick on anyone who's different than them," Luka said, shaking his head. "Those fights weren't Elodie's fault. I went to public school, Antonia. I know what it's like."

He sighed, getting to his feet and gathering up his paper and the transfer papers. "You know that's not true. You mother and I care very much for your happiness."
