James wasn't stupid. He knew that, even if Cepheus had spend the day with him and they'd had sex again, all wasn't forgiven. Mostly because Cepheus hadn't moved back in, but still. James was working on it. He was going to get Cepheus back and then they'd live together again and his grandmother would be much happier about everything because apparently she'd figured out that James was in love with Cepheus faster than James had.

James figured a big gesture was in order. Something other than getting drunk and punching Cepheus's current, obviously inferior, replacement boyfriend. He knocked on the door to Albus's loft flat and waited for his brother to open up. Big gestures meant drama and Al was going to school for that, right? Plus, James did feel kind of bad about sleeping with Albus's best friend and ex and all that. He should probably check up on him.

Albus was a little lonely living by himself in his flat, but soon enough, Kit would be back and he could be happy. He'd have his boyfriend back and someone to cuddle and he wouldn't have to be grumpy anymore.

When he heard the knock on the door, he frowned, not expecting anyone. He walked over and slid the door open, looking at his brother. The brother who had slept with Scorpius and caused a world of trouble. He frowned and slammed the door back in his face.

Well, fuck. Someone had definitely told Albus that he'd slept with Scorpius then. "Albus!" he called, knocking on the door again. "Al, I'm just here to check on you! Even Cepheus has pretty much forgiven me for that!"

James tugged on the door handle. "Don't make me call Mum and Dad and tell them I'm worried about you. Or worse, Lily."

Albus frowned at the door for a moment. "You hurt my best friend. And even though I hurt him too, that doesn't give you grounds to fuck him. Especially when everyone has known that Cepheus has wanted you since we were kids."

He pulled the door open and frowned at him. "You managed to hurt both of the people I love. What makes you think I want you in here?"

"Cepheus took a pretty big detour with Xavier," James pointed out. "I never got myself into a committed relationship with anyone. I know I fucked things up, but I'm working on fixing them."

He slipped into the flat when Albus opened the door so he couldn't be locked out again. "I'm pretty sure you don't want me in here, but I want to try and convince you to help me. I love Cepheus. I need to win him back. And I could help you and Scorpius start being friends again."

"I don't need your help being Scorpius's friend." Albus informed his brother with a frown, looking him over. Why did he have to come in where he wasn't wanted and try and make things happen all the time?

He sighed softly. "Why can't you get Cepheus back on your own? Your charm not working on him?"

"Really?" James asked. "When was the last time you talked to him? Because if the last time you talked to him was when the two of you broke up, then you do." He was charming. He could help Albus. Albus was dramatic. He could help James.

"It's working. We slept together again and Cepheus stayed the day at our flat, but it hasn't worked all the way because he's still living with his brother. You spend all your time singing love stories. I figure you can help me out."

"I've texted him a couple of times, but he's not replying. I'm giving him time." Albus shook his head and ran his fingers through his hair. "If I give him time to cool down a bit more, things will be easier."

Albus walked over to his couch and sat down, looking his brother over. "What exactly do you want me to do?"

"I don't know exactly," James admitted, walking over to the couch and sitting beside Albus. "I love him, and I think I know him pretty well, but I'm sure there's stuff you can help me with. You've been friends for forever."

He leaned back, running his hand through his hair. "I need some kind... grand gesture. Something that makes Cepheus decide nobody's going to love him better than I can and he should finish forgiving me and move back in. I was thinking maybe I'd do something with this movie we were watching the first time I jerked him off, but that might not be romantic enough."

"First of all, you were probably watching a horror film because those are the only kinds that Cepheus likes. Not romantic." Albus shook his head and looked at James as if he were an idiot. Which he was.

"Second, jerking off together for the first time is definitely not romantic." Albus tapped his fingers against his knee. "Cepheus isn't someone who is into over the top romance either. So you can't take inspiration from classic movies."

"No, that's why I thought the horror movie and jerking off might be okay. Because if I showed up with a thousand roses or something he'd probably just punch me. I bought him flowers once and he hated them." James smiled fondly at the memory.

"I know he likes cheesecake. I could bake him a cheesecake in the shape of a heart or something." James gave Albus a slightly desperate look. "Do you see my problem? I need something he wouldn't hate, but it needs to be genuinely nice too."

"I have no clue. The only things I know about Cepheus that could work in this situation don't seem very helpful." Albus looked at his brother and sighed softly. "He's a fan of soaps, sweets and horror films."

Albus ran a hand through his hair. "Can you sing?" He asked, looking his brother over.

"Yeah, I guess," James said, shrugging. "I'm passable. I have the same genetics as you without the training. You don't think singing a song for Cepheus counts as over-the-top romantic crap he'd hate?"

He paused for a moment. "I could pretend to do something that would get him really mad and lure him someplace, then do something more romantic in private. He likes getting mad at me. He's so cute when he's angry." James smiled to himself. "His cheeks get all flushed and his hair bounces when he yells."

Albus stared at his brother for a moment. Why would you want to get someone angry at you? He didn't understand it, especially since he and Scorpius were fighting so much and it was his least favourite thing in the entire world.

"Where are you going to lure him?" Albus asked, arching a brow. "And what's going to make him angry?"

"Somewhere he likes." James thought about it for a moment. "Maybe just our flat. The other places I can think of are like... the suit shop where he jumped me because he's got a thing for suits and the car where we first had sex and he taped it to try and blackmail me."

He looked at Albus. "Something that would make him mad without making him too mad. I could get you to tell him that I'm moving because my team is trading me. Or maybe it should be more about him. I could say I broke something of his. He left most of his stuff. Or... I could tell newspapers and magazines how much I love him. He'd hate that."

Albus stared at his brother. "I didn't really need to know that much about your life. And I'd rather not think about it again, thanks." He told him, wrinkling his nose a bit.

"I think that him thinking you're leaving could freak him out. Make him think you're being traded to Bulgaria or something. Maybe even the States. And then talk about how much you love in him the papers on top of it."

James grinned, patting Albus on the back. "Perfect," he said. "Cepheus will hate me. It's great. I'll cook a big dinner for the day I get you to tell him I'm going to pull a Beckham and play in the States. He'll come to scream at me for going on about how much I love him and then running away."

Cepheus would hit him a lot. But then he'd probably forgive him for good. "So what about your problems? I've only heard half the break-up story, but you're my little brother so in private I'm inclined to take your side. You happier now?"

"My side of the story is probably a lot different than Scorpius's side of the story." Albus sighed. It wasn't that he thought that Scorpius was wrong for being upset, but he was upset too. And it seemed like he wasn't allowed to be.

"When I told him I loved him, I wasn't lying. I wasn't just saying it." Albus looked up at James and sighed. "But, we started fighting a lot. He was always off doing something with modeling and was never around to just hang out and talk. And then two weeks into our relationship, he left me for fashion week. Even though I wouldn't have wanted to go, he didn't even ask. He also didn't text and then yelled at me for missing a skype call. I have to have someone who is willing to be with me and talk to me. Scorpius never did those things. He just wanted to fuck all the time."

"Right," James said, after a moment. He'd never had a problem with a relationship being sex-centric, but he and Cepheus talked a lot during sex. And after. And before. "Okay, I think I get it. Especially since you didn't even have breathing room between dating Kit and dating Scorpius."

James shrugged. "Kit and Scorpius are extremely different people. Quirks that are great in a best friend aren't necessarily the best in a boyfriend. I like bickering, but I can see how it's not for everyone, and the non-communication is all on him because Cepheus and I weren't speaking while I was on my road trip and I still wanted to call him and text him constantly. Wanting to fuck all the time, though -- what were you like when you lost your virginity? Because I couldn't get over how good it felt."

"It's different with Kit. Having sex with him. I always wanted to touch him. Obviously I always wanted to touch him." Albus looked back at James and shook his head. "But, it never felt like it had to happen. Like if it didn't happen I was being a bad boyfriend."

He ran a hand through his hair. "With Kit... We can be close and just be close. Nothing else has to happen. Clothes don't have to come off. We can just lay beside each other, nuzzle noses, kiss, snog. All that. But, we just lay there and have a conversation. Talk about everything we want to be and what we want to do. Where we want to be in ten years. Three kids and a cat named Mistofolees, living in a cabin together while we're both on broadway, but the New York cast only. None of that traveling for us."

James smiled at Albus for a moment. "I get it," he said. "I feel that way with Cepheus. Most of the time we do end up having sex because he's a boy who knows what he wants, but it's easy with him. Everything fits with him."

He reached over, ruffling Albus's hair. "Look, if it's that right with Kit, if it's that easy to see your future together, then it's probably for the best that you and Scorpius broke up. You'll both be happier in the end, and at least you didn't date for a year and then decide it wasn't right, right? It was three weeks. He'll get over it and you'll be able to be friends again. The friend thing just might... take a while."

"I miss him a lot." Albus admitted with a small pout. "Like... way too much. I love Kit. I'm happy with Kit. But, part of me wonders if maybe I chose Kit because things are so easy. You know?"

He shrugged. "I just want to make sure that I'm doing what I want so that I'm not miserable in ten years. What if I'm supposed to move to New York with Scorpius while he models and I sing on broadway?"

"I don't really believe that there's only one right future, Al," James told him. "I'm fighting for Cepheus because I love him and he's the first person I've ever really felt this way about. If he didn't take me back, I'd be devastated. Pull a Scorpius and stay in bed for four days, then eat nothing but ice cream. But I'd get over it eventually and I'd find someone else. It's definitely not what I want to have happen, and maybe part of me feels like it's Cepheus or nothing, but plenty of people have more than one love in their lifetime."

He paused. "I'm not sure which side I'm arguing anymore. Anyway, just... you know. There's no one right way to do things. I'm sure if you and Kit move to New York and have your three kids, you'll be happy. And maybe if you were with Scorpius, you'd work at getting to a good place with him and be happy in New York too, but that doesn't mean Kit is the wrong choice. Or that Scorpius is the wrong one either. Although honestly, Al, at this point if I were Scorpius I'd be seeing what other options I had because you've now not noticed his feelings for five years, left him alone after taking his virginity, and had a, by all accounts, not very good three week relationship. That door might be closed at this point."

Albus didn't want to hear that. If that door was closed, there was a pretty good chance that Scorpius wasn't even going to want to be his friend. He ran a hand through his hair and sighed, feeling upset about the whole conversation and how everyone seemed to think he was a monster.

"You know, it wasn't my fault." Albus told his brother, shaking his head. "For a while, I was terrified of being gay. I didn't want to be a disappointment to our parents by them having yet another gay kid. And you were pretty unforgiving about it to them at the time. He and I snogged a bit when we were thirteen. And then he told me to date Kit. When he told me to go ahead and date Kit, I thought he didn't like me in the same way. So, I dated Kit. And he never said anything about the way he felt."

"I wasn't blaming you, Al," James said, shaking his head. "Look, don't tell Cepheus I'm not on his brother's side, but I'm not. People don't just magically read your mind and know what you want. You have to go after it. I've never had a problem doing that so I don't really get why some people do."

He shrugged. "You and Kit started dating when you were fifteen. Scorpius had plenty of time to say something. I mean, you had lots of time to say something too, but it doesn't matter. It didn't happen. You two were way happier when you thought he thought of you as a friend and he was pining in silence. Sometimes people just shouldn't date. Scorpius and Cepheus are a lot a like, you know? He probably needs someone more like me. You like being with Kit."

Maybe James had a point. Maybe he didn't belong with Scorpius. Maybe he wasn't good enough for Scorpius because he couldn't make him happy. Albus loved Kit with all his heart and they were so good together. But, he wanted to love Scorpius too.

Too bad he wasn't into polygamy. He sighed heavily, in defeat, and nodded. "Alright. I won't pursue Scorpius anymore."

James paused for a moment. Cepheus was not going to be very happy if he learned that he was the one who'd talked Al out of chasing Scorpius. "Just... don't tell Cepheus I'm the one who convinced you it wasn't a good idea, all right? Besides, if you break up with Kit again for Scorpius and things don't work out, then you've fucked up more relationships for good."

He wrapped an arm around Albus's shoulders. "I know you feel like shit now, but in a few months you and Scorpius will both be in a good place again. You'll be exchanging gifts on Christmas like nothing ever happened. It was only three weeks."
