Thoreau frowned when Rooney grabbed Pyxis and threw her onto the bed. "Don't treat her like that," he said, sitting up on the bed and touching her arm. "She's not like me. She doesn't like it."

He turned all his attention to Pyxis. Rooney could punish him later. "Are you okay?" he asked her. "Just... He doesn't know how things work here yet. Don't blame him."
