well chelsy is a lot less religious than her parents, but she's kept a lot of the values she grew up with, especially regarding sex (though she doesn't judge). maybe they were like best friends in elementary school and freshman year, but then, like you said as kyla became less innocent and they had trouble relating to each other as much and slowly drifted apart? and now they're still friends but not as close and they help each other out however they can like you said (again).
