open to chancellor
After his session with Liam a few days earlier, Kerri was wondering when he'd be able to schedule a session with Chancellor. He had to speak to every member of the BAU team, but he was told to focus especially on Liam and Chancellor. Chancellor had been giving him the slip at every turn, and seemed too busy to return his last two calls, and his last email trying to schedule a session. With the heart attack and hospitilaztion, though, that was understandable. Okay, it would have been, but all of Kerri's endeavors had been prior to the attack.

At the moment, Kerri was busy taking a lunch break at a sushi place. He was surprised to see Chancellor there, alone, looking over the menu at the sushi bar. Chancellor was the type of man who usually chose more hearty food, but given his health recently, Kerri supposed some changes had to be made.

Deciding to take the oppurtunity to see how the man was doing, and to maybe see if he could get Chancellor to commit to a session, he headed over and slid into the empty seat next to him.

"Hello, Agent Connelly," he smiled. "Glad to see you out and about."

Going back to work was pretty much out of the question at this point. He'd been forced to take a leave of absence. For the first few days he'd just slept. He was so exhausted and so stressed out that his body had just shut down to try and recharge. It didn't help that he was weaker now, and felt more out of place than ever. After the first few days he spent all of his time looking for apartments then. He'd just signed a lease that afternoon and then had decided to get something to eat before trying to even consider moving into the place. It wasn't like he had much, really, which made living there daunting. He'd been living out of a hotel. He had no furniture, nothing but clothes and case files. He was going to have to get everything for the apartment but he supposed that was what IKEA was for. He had just ordered and was getting ready to get out his blackberry to text Mick when Kerri slid into the booth next to him, pinning him in against the wall.

"You are like a parasite." He said, tucking the phone away before he leaned his head againsth is hand and looked over at the man. "My ignoring your calls and emails wasn't enough? You've taken to following me too? If I pretend like you aren't here, will you go away?"

Kerrigan was more than use to Chancellor's quips by now, and rough exterior. Sessions with him over the past few years before the man had retired had taught him a great deal about the way Chance dealt with things, though this heart attack thing, Kerri had no clue how someone who did not like to feel vulnerable was dealing with something like that.

"No," he smiled as he plucked up a menu to look it over. "And no," he added with a smile. "You know you're going to have to talk to me sooner or late, Chancellor. Why avoid it? It's not as if I'm simply going to go away. I don't want to talk to you guys early this year, but with the whole Banks case, I have to."

Chancellor sighed deeply, expressing his annoyance in an overly dramatic fashion. He never really opened up to Kerri, hadn't ever really liked him. It wasn't because he thought Kerri was a bad guy, he just didn't think that talking about all of the stuff he'd been through was going to make him feel any better in the end.

"I'm on leave, you know." He told him. "Technically we shouldn't be doing this because I am not supposed to be involved with any work related activities until my leave is over." Maybe that would get him out of having to answer Kerri's questions.

"We're not doing anything," Kerri said as he sat back and closed the menu up. "Well, not anything that's work related, anyway. I didn't come over here to have a session with you, I just came over here to say hello and see how your recovery was going. Having a session in the middle of a sushi restaurant is hardly professional, we're having lunch," he said with a faint smile. "So, how are you feeling?"

"Well." Chancellor wasn't in the mood for this, though he was very rarely in the mood for anyone's company unless he specifically expressed interest. The only person who he wanted at his side on the regular was Liam, and the man had plenty else to do and plenty other people to spend his time with these days. Comfort was perhaps the next person, though there were days when he wanted to be alone and away from him as well. Kerri never made the list because the man was a shrink, and even if he wasn't working he would always be trying to get inside of his head. At least that was how Chancellor felt. He didn't ask how Kerri was, he didn't want to know, and hoped that if he was cold enough and quiet enough he would drive Kerri away. It worked for him before. Or he figured he could go the annoying route, to drive him crazy the way he had with comfort.

"Good, good, I'm glad to hear it," Kerrigan said as the waitress came by to put Chancellor's drink down. She took Kerri's order, then flittered off to another table. "I imagine you're itching to get back to work. You never struck me as the type who liked to sit still for very long." Especially now that the man's husband was gone. "The team seems to be doing very well, all of you do."

Chancellor took a drink of his water and he sat down with his shoulders against the back of the booth. "I don't care what you imagine about me, or what you've observed in the few encounters we've had with one another." He told him, his hand settled on the table as he looked at Kerri. "What you should be most concerned with at this point is the likelihood of my blood pressure rising as you so clearly instigate my distress. Would you like to be responsible for me suffering a second instance of cardiac arrest?"

"Oh come on, Chancellor, I hardly make you that nervous and we both know it," Kerri said as the waitress set his drink down. He took a sip of his ice tea and wet his lips. "I'm not here to instigate you. I'm just here to have a friendly conversation. I don't see why it's so hard for you to have a friendly conversation with someone."

"Nervous no, irritated yes." He drummed his fingers just once on the table and then he looked at Kerrigan. "This isn't friendly, you've backed me into a corner. And it isn't a conversation, not with a therapist, not ever." Pulling his hand away from the table he reached into his jacket and drew the blackberry he kept there out. He fired off a quick message to Liam about what kind of situation he'd just gotten himself into and then he set to work checking his email, because he wanted Kerrigan to know that his phone was more interesting than he was.

"All right," Kerrigan said as he slid out from his seat and waved to the waitress where he'd be sitting. If Chancellor didn't want to talk, then he didn't want to talk. Kerrigan wasn't going to force the man. He was patient, but he was well aware of how stubborn Chancellor could be. "Enjoy your meal, then," he said as he went to sit down at a different table.

Chancellor said nothing as he got up to move to another table. Instead his food was delivered and he broke apart his chopsticks to start eating. He didn't feel the least bit guilty over making him want to move to another seat. He texted Liam to say "crisis averted" and then focused all of his attention on his food. It wasn't a very hearty meal, wasn't the steak and potatoes he would have preferred and the water certainly wasn't the beer he would have liked, but this would have to do for now. And he supposed he would always have to deal with feeling hungry, even after he ate.
