Shay could hardly focus on anything but the fact that Elijah was in the same room with him. It was almost strange to see him without the shadows on his face that the chain link created. He squeezed his hand, trying to prevent himself from shaking and when Elijah asked what was going on, he had to look over to where Adam stood in Reagan's cell. "They're just staring at each other," he said quietly. Perhaps if Shay was looking through a camera lens he would have been better able to pick up on the nuances of what was going on between Adam and Reagan. Even if it was obvious, Shay could be intensely oblivious. "Adam is inside Reagan's room."
For a long time, Adam simply stood there, perfectly open to Reagan, no guards up at all. If it had been anyone else in any other situation, it would have been admirable how loving he looked in the face of sheer hate. But this wasn't any other situation; he'd kidnapped these men, tortured them sometimes, raped them, and it didn't seem like he even understood what all of that made him. "I'll let you get settled in. It's a bit late for dinner." He backed out of the cell and shut the door behind him.
