elijah, murphy (backdated to about a month after murphy was taken)
Usually Adam kept Parker in the middle of Elijah and Murphy, but probably as en effort to make Murphy feel as if he belonged and to hopefully form some sort of a bond with Elijah, he'd put Murphy in between Elijah and Parker. It was the first time that Elijah had ever been moved, and it felt strangely exhilerating to be in a new area, even if it was the same old basement.

Elijah was infinitely curious about the newest boy, and he'd been bombarding Parker with all sorts of questions. The first month Adam had kept Murphy scarce because of his asthma, and the last week Murphy had been sort of out of it since he'd tried to run away. Running away was always something that Elijah thought about trying, but he was too afraid. Parker had told him that they were in the middle of nowhere, and with Elijah being blind, running wasn't an option.

Murphy had been asleep while Adam helped Elijah move his things to the next cell over, and Elijah listened with rapt attention while Adam moved Murphy's things over. After that, he'd taken Murphy upstairs for a while, and left Elijah and Parker alone. After talking Parker into telling him a story, Elijah had curled up on his bed and drifted off to sleep. When he wokeup, Parker was now upstairs, and Murphy was back in the basement. Elijah could tell that Murphy was back because his breathing sounded a little different than Parker's, and he could tell that Parker was gone because he couldn't hear his breathing at all. Being blind, Elijah had a rather acute sense of hearing.

He scooted to the edge of his bed and let his feet dangle over the edge. He was wearing a pair of navy button up pajamas. Adam put everything of one color in the same drawer so that Elijah would always match because the boy was self concious about looking ridiculous since he couldn't see himself and what he was putting on.

"Is Parker with Adam?" he asked after a moment, his voice quiet and uncertain.

Spending time with Adam really only served to confuse Murphy. He was afraid of him, terrified of him, but at the same time he craved the way Adam loved him, and the way that Adam touched him and wanted to be near him. He went back and forth between near panic over the idea of the other man and then over being alone. When Adam brought him back down he curled up in bed and he kept his head down, wanting to keep to himself. It made him a little jealous that Adam took Parker, mostly just because it meant he had to be alone and that he wouldn't even have Parker to talk to. It wasn't until he heard Elijah's voice that he lifted his head. For the most part he hadn't seen Elijah at all, hadn't heard him talking aside from a few words here there to Parker when he was in and out of sleep.

"Yes." he said softly, his voice a little wheezy. "He took him when he brought me back down. I stayed quiet because I didn't want to wake you."

"Are you all right?" Lijah asked as he got to his feet and felt his way over towards the side of the fence that he could ear Murphy's voice coming from. Adam had laid everything out just the same in this cell as it had been in the other, but Elijah still felt the urge to feel his way around because the area was new. "Parker said that you were hurt..." he added with a worried frown as he finally found his way to the chain link fence, and he hooked his slender fingers around the cool metal. "He said that you tried to run - what's out there?"

He'd heard from Parker that it was just woods and darkness, but he wanted to be sure. He trusted Parker, but sometimes he couldn't help but get the impression that the other boy said and did things just to keep Elijah safe and from trying anything that would get him in trouble.

"Woods." He said softly as he rubbed his fingers gently along his eyes. "Trees in all directions, everywhere that I could see and I ran... I ran for so long. And then I ended up getting caught and when I woke up I was back in the house and he was wrapping up my feet up because they were torn up and a mess." He watched Elijah as he came closer but he didn't get up to go to the fence like he had with Murphy. Instead he just closed his eyes and listened to the boy while he talked. "I didn't make it. I was going to try to make it."

Hearing from Murphy the same thing that Parker had said caused Elijah's heart to drop, and his face visibly showed it. He tightened his fingers around the fence and leaned his head against it as a quiet sigh escaped his lips.

"Oh," he said softly before he bit down on his lower lip. He blinked a few times as the information processed itself. There really was no way out of this place, even if he did get outside. "I haven't been outside since he took me. At least you were brave enough to try."

"I don't think that it's fair to say that I am brave. I ran, like a coward, and let Parker take what Adam had to give in place of me." he rubbed his hands over his face. "You wouldn't have been able to escape anyway, so it doesn't matter. Parker tried and couldn't make it and neither could I. I don't think anyone could get away from here."

Elijah swallowed hard and leaned his head against the fence with a frown. He worried at his bottom lip as he listened to the sound of the other boy's voice, and his heart sank more and more.

"Your name is Murphy, right? I'm Elijah," he finally said, wanting to change the subject. "I play the violin."

"Yeah, it is. I play the piano. I sing too, but I don't think that is what Adam cares about." he was a more talented pianist than he was a vocalist, and he knew it. He didn't have as strong a voice as Vegas on account of his asthma. He could play the guitar too, but the piano had always been his first and true love. "And Parker writes. And that's why we are here. I've never been ashamed of my ability to play the piano until now."

Elijah wanted to tell Murphy not to let Adam make him feel that way, but he could understand why Murphy did, so he didn't. He drew in a deep breath and closed his eyes as he stood leaning against the fence.

"Sometimes Parker tells me stories," he said after a moment. "It's nice. He'll probably tell you some, too." They had little TV's in their cells with some DVD's, but Elijah didn't bother with them all that often. He preferred Parker's stories. "I can play for you sometimes, if you'd like."

"Thanks, but no." He didn't want to hear Elijah play right now. He didn't want to force him to do something that Adam took so much joy out of. It almost felt perverted and even worse he couldn't help but feel like he had played into it by offering to play Adam a second song a few nights earlier. "I think I would prefer the quiet right now."

"Okay," Elijah replied quietly before he drew his hands back away from the fence and straightened back up. He made his way back to his bed and crawled up onto it to settle back down. He wondered how long it would be before Adam let Parker come back downstairs, and he wondered if the man would want to take him upstairs or not. With Adam, he never knew what to expect.
