Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO; Luna, Michael, and Neville
WHEN; Tuesday afternoon
WHERE; Courtyard
SUMMARY; Dancing in the rain
RATING; PG?
STATUS; Incomplete

Bleak. That was the word to describe the day. Rain, clouds, cold. Everything that should have turned a person off about being outside was occuring. Yet, still, Luna sat on a bench in the middle of the courtyard. Her toes, covered by a pair of bright yellow galoshes, were dipping themselves in a puddle by her feet. In, out, in, out. The ripples they were forming, to the girl, were beautiful.

She let out a light laugh. The rain against her skin tickled, especially when it hit her face. Tearing her gaze from the water on the ground, she looked up, closing her eyes. It was easy to imagine a dozen scenarios that were different and more exciting than the one she was apart of. Maybe she was on a ship on the ocean during a frightening storm. Perhaps she was shipwrecked on a deserted island and it was the first rainfall in weeks. Possibly, she was just a child, attracted by the fact that her mummy told her not to venture out in the weather.

She could be anyone, doing anything she wanted. Course, she didn't need the rain to do that. She often dreamt of things that weren't true. But, the rain was definitely a nice addition to her fantasies.

After several moments, she raised her hands, welcoming and beckoning the rain to her. She wanted it to hit her face. She wanted it to drench her almost completely, besides the fact that she wasn't exactly properly dressed for the event. Apart from her rain shoes, she was only clad in her school uniform. Her cloak lay forgotten on her bed upstairs.

Still, her spirits were high. She wasn't cold, simply because she chose not to be. Or not to think on it. Letting out another laugh, she didn't even notice when someone near her cleared his throat.

Michael was still in a state of amusement. It had lasted for quite some time, and he couldn't pinpoint just what exactly had started it. He knew of the things that helped it along, of course, one of them certainly had to be his encounter with Susan Bones. Such a nice girl, she was. Was he supposed to feel bad about what had happened? A part of him couldn't shake away how funny the whole thing was when thought about, and it was enough to cause him to randomly laugh when walking through the warm Hogwarts corridors. There was a bounce in his step and a whistle in the air, two things that caused him to get rather curious looks from those who weren't as used to his cheerful antics as others were.

Luna Lovegood was a girl he found entirely fascinating, in that sense where he knew how to behave himself and act like a clumsy mixture between gentleman and first year all over again. If there was dancing involved, he was immediately game for it. But adding Luna to the idea of dancing just seemed to be a gift from the gods to cure boredom. Not that he was particularly bored, but that didn't mean he wasn't going to pretend he was so he could drop everything and make a mad dash for the entrance to the grounds.

Luna was already there, as he expected, and without bothering to put something on to protect himself from the rain he darted over to her, grinning and humming softly. It felt like taking a shower with his clothing on, really, so rain was something that never really bothered him. It was too refreshing.

"Luna!" he exclaimed, coming to a stop next to where she seemed to be enjoying herself. "Have you started the party without me?"

Well. This was certainly interesting, and Neville didn't know how he was supposed to feel. Of course he enjoyed spending time with those who actually enjoyed his company, and Luna was one of those people, but it seemed like they weren't going to be completely alone. Why did people who seemed to have to so easy always get invited along? Because they were popular, of course. Everyone wanted to spend time with the popular people. Neville tried not to think about how strange it could be to stand out in the rain with Luna. And Michael Corner, for that matter. What if Michael was going to try and get cozy with Luna? Touch her? Snog her? He could hardly deal with people wanting to snog himself, much less having to watch others doing it.

He had made it down to the grounds somewhat safely, having only stumbled twice on his shoelaces, which didn't seem to want to stay tied. He was holding a jacket over his head to protect himself from the falling rain, even if it wasn't doing much good. The air was still chilly, and the wind was nearly blowing his jacket from his hands with every second he spent glancing around anxiously for Luna. As he suspected, the familiar bloke with dark hair was already skipping his way to Luna's blond frame.

"Great," he muttered to himself, walking slowly and wondering if there was still time to run away.

There was none. Time that is; for Neville to run away. As soon as Michael got her attention and Luna opened her eyes, they immediately fell on the boy in the background.

"Hello Michael," she said, pushing past him and waving at Neville. "Come over here!" She yelled at the other boy. "I've got galoshes for you!"

Turning back around, she smiled sweetly at the Ravenclaw and cocked her head to the side. Party? What party? She thought it was just the three of them. Were more coming?

"I wasn't aware of a party. I thought we were just dancing."

Michael hadn't even noticed that there was someone walking behind him, namely because he had never really paid much attention to just what Neville Longbottom was up to. There had never really been a reason to strike up a conversation, but it seemed that he was keen on arriving at the exact same time, which didn't allow him a chance to be alone with Luna except for these brief few moments.

When Luna turned her attention to the Gryffindor almost cowering under a jacket a few paces back, Michael crossed his arms and turned around to look at him. He squinted softly as he noticed that he himself was certainly dressed better for frolicking and dancing around in the rain. The whole point was to enjoy it, not cover up. That caused him to smirk slightly until he noticed Luna's attention coming back to his him.

A dazzling smile came over his face as he looked down at her and arched an eyebrow. "Oh no, we are. But wherever you are there is a party, dear Luna," he commented, not knowing just how flirty he should allow the tone in his voice to get. It would be amusing to see if Longbottom would get uncomfortable with it, but at the same time he wasn't entirely sure that Luna would even respond to it.

There had been, perhaps, one brief moment of possible escape for Neville, but it seemed he was already too far outside and into the sopping wet environment to make a quick, graceful getaway. All that would happen would be him tripping, falling, and landing in the wet grass, and that most certainly made a grimace come across his face. He didn't want Luna to think he was grimacing because of her sudden alertness on his presence, so he instead put a smile on his face and walked carefully to the two pairs of curious eyes.

For a moment, he didn't say anything, and opted to just look at Luna.

"It's chilly out here," he commented after a few long moments, more toward Luna than Michael. Was this really necessary? For Luna, yes. For Michael, no. Instead he quickly pulled his jacket on and slipped his hood over his head. "What are we doing?"

Luna wasn't aware of a party everywhere she went. She found Michael's statement to be rather false. If there was, indeed, a party wherever she was, would she not notice the hoards of screaming people and dance music and whatever else was emcompassed when the word 'party' was mentioned? It seemed illogical. But, Luna wasn't one to judge, so she merely nodded at the boy and smiled idly during the next few moments of silence.

"I think it's alright," she responded, to Neville who appeared alot colder than he let on. She watched him with piqued interest as he bundled up a bit more. She was still immune to the weather. "We're dancing."

She looked down at her feet for a brief moment and clicked the heels of her galoshes together a few times.

Michael could tell that she was confused. And he also couldn't help but grin slightly, as much as he wanted to pretend that he didn't find her confusion amusing. It was clear as day what he'd meant, at least to him. Of course he meant that she was so interesting that he always felt the excitement of a party when he was around here, but he could see from the look on her face that she was wondering where all the other mysterious party goers were hiding.

That Longbottom fellow was rather odd, and he was acting like he hadn't ever seen rain before. Honestly, it was not that cold out in the rain, there was no need to overreact. Or maybe he didn't know how to keep himself warm like others. Michael didn't know. Nor did he really care.

Instead of waiting to see what would happen, he suddenly started jumping in place and waving his arms around in tune with the bobbing of his head, mimicking the music that wasn't there.

"You don't mean dancing like the Foxtrot or anything, do you?" Neville wasn't entirely sure that that sort of dancing mixed with rain and slippery grass was actually the safest thing to be doing. It actually made him feel a bit horrified, but he opted to not comment. He was here with Luna, someone he liked and wanted to spend time with. There was no use complaining about the conditions around there, for complaining would get them no where. Quality time was quality time.

"It is alright," he decided to agree, ignoring Michael as he did some random dance move that looked entirely too effortless on his part. Couldn't he fall down into the mud and look silly? "How do you want to dance? With...both of us?"

Sorry, I didn't get the notif's for this.

Luna smirked, throwing her arms in the air gracefully, like she had before and doing a few turns that made her skirt flow out around her in a perfect circle. The rain was beautiful and they were all beautiful for standing in it.

"Like this," she said, continuing her movements and closing her eyes. After several more moments, she opened them again. Neville was still standing there. Stopping, she took a few steps until she was in front of him. Grabbing his hands, she tried to get him to hop around with her.
