Lucius had been hoping he'd distracted them enough to skip the question. He supposed he should be glad his son wasn't an idiot. He looked at the boy for a moment, debating his answer. "I don't know," he said. "I always treated her very well. I loved your mother. I took better care of her than her parents did."
Scorpius frowned. "Are you sure?" he asked. "She doesn't talk about you... at all. Nobody does. Something must have happened to make them shut all this up."
"I have no idea what it was," Lucius said, looking between the two of them. "It's a shame. I would have liked the chance to help you grow up."
