Kit had spent a fairly confusing day listening to Ana alternate between talking about what a great, rising star she was and how amazing and famous she and Caspar were going to be -- standard stuff -- and wondering if he thought that Brutus Macnair might be able to sing. Kit didn't know what had happened between the last time Brutus Macnair dumped pumpkin juice over Ana's head and threw him in the rubbish bins, but apparently something had changed for her. Maybe she'd watched Grease too many times and decided he was the perfect Danny.

Kit walked into the coffee shop where he was supposed to meet Albus and smiled when he saw the other boy waiting with two cups of coffee. "Hello, Handsome," he said, putting his bag down and taking a seat. "You are not going to believe who Ana's decided she has a crush on. It's even weirder than the month when she wanted your babies."

Albus had actually drank two cups of coffee already while he'd waited for Kit. For some reason, he just felt a bit off that day. Maybe it was because Scorpius hadn't answered his text yet about spending time together.

When Kit came up to him he smiled at him. "Hello love." He arched a brow and laughed. "Who? It couldn't be worse than her fancying Caspar."

Kit smiled, because yes, it could be worse than that, and he was the one who knew all about it. "Brutus Macnair," he said. "She just spent hours wondering if he could sing or not. She fancies him. And she felt like I was the appropriate outlet for her romantic frustrations, so I think it's probably pretty safe to say that Caspar doesn't know."

Kit unbuttoned his coat and shrugged. "Brutus did like to throw meatballs at Caspar's head when we were younger. I could see keeping a crush secret from him. Can I buy you a coffee or are you all right with the caffeine you have now?"

"I don't need a coffee, but if you feel the need to buy something, you can get me one of those brownies." Albus smiled at his boyfriend and then leaned in, kissing him softly on the lips. He hummed his approval and sat back, taking Kit's hand into his own.

"Brutus is a bit odd for her, though. Didn't he dump something over her head once?" Albus asked as he took another drink of his coffee. "And I've heard him singing before. He can carry a tune, but then he saw me listening and punched me in the face."

Kit kissed Albus back, smiling when he pulled away and squeezing his hand. "I'm going to buy you a brownie when I can bring myself to stop holding your hand for the five minutes it will take for me to go and get one."

He raised an eyebrow at Albus. "He punched you in the face? I thought you were going to protect the rest of us from his somewhat diminished wrath for the rest of the year? Also, yes. He dumped pumpkin juice over her head."

"Well. He punched me in the face. I didn't say I didn't retaliate. Once we were a bloody mess on the floor, he stopped threatening me." Albus pointed out with a laugh, then lifted his chin. "See that scar just there? That's from that ring he wears. Clocked me pretty hard."

Albus leaned in and kissed Kit again. "I'm going to protect you from his bullying. He won't mess with you again. And apparently he won't be messing with her either."

Kit kissed Albus back, then kissed the scar under his chin. "You are such a Gryffindor. Getting in fights and showing off your scars. Playing Quidditch. I suppose I'm happy to be your requisite piece of hot arm candy."

He let his finger brush over the back of Albus's hand. "Brutus Macnair might end up needing your protection from Ana. Especially if he can sing."

"I'm definitely okay with you being my hot arm candy." Albus smiled and caught Kit's lips in another kiss. "You are definitely better looking than I am." He kissed him again and pulled back with a laugh.

"I never thought I'd say this, but poor Brutus." Albus laughed. "I remember the gifts she used to give me when she fancied me."

"Better looking than you are? You flatter me," Kit said, snorting. "I don't lack self-esteem. I'm very good looking. I'm also a specific type. You have a much broader, less delicate appeal. Which is why girls fancy you. Girls don't make that mistake with me."

Kit shrugged. "Maybe Brutus enjoys novelty ties and recordings of Ana singing love songs. We're definitely going to find out. Maybe Caspar can save Brutus and put a stop to it."

Albus laughed at that and squeezed Kit's hand. "Good thing you're my type. I like thin boys with high voices who wear women's clothes. It's my thing."

"Oh god. Do you think she'd do that to him?" Albus laughed and shook his head. "I can't imagine Brutus wearing a tie. Does he even like her back?"

"Lucky me," Kit said, leaning in and kissing Albus again, reaching up and touching his cheek before he pulled away. "Honestly, I don't know what Ana's capable of. Maybe she'll get him a novelty t-shirt instead."

He shrugged. "Brutus isn't really in my circle of friends, so I have no idea. I'd think his type would be more... or maybe not more something, just less... Ana."

"I'm not really sure how anyone could fancy Ana more than she fancies herself." Albus pointed out and looked back at Kit. He smiled at him and shook his head. "I was pretty much terrified the entire time she fancied me. I was kind of afraid to reject her because she's so scary."

"Well, Brutus is tough. Maybe he's the right man for her," Kit said, shrugging. "A scary man for a scary girl. I'm going to get your brownie for you and a coffee for me." He stole another kiss from Albus, then got to his feet.

Scorpius had spent the past few days alternating between forcing himself not to tell Cepheus who their real father was while he scanned portraits in the manor for any sign of Lucius, and spending time with Caspar. He was a good boyfriend, but he wasn't being a very good friend. He was about to answer Albus's text about hanging out with he spotted him through the window of the coffee shop. He smiled to himself and pushed the door open, walking over to Albus's table. "Hey. I was just going to text you."

Albus looked up at Scorpius, a little surprised to see him there. He sipped his coffee and then gave him a small smile. "Hey. Haven't seen you in a while." He replied and then motioned for Scorpius to sit down. "How have you been?"

Marc Flint didn't exactly like to work at the coffee house, but his parents had insisted he get a job to pay for the broom he so desperately wanted. He hated serving people's coffee and for people to refer to him as a barista. Because he wasn't a barista. He was a Quidditch player. He looked at the boy whom he vaguely knew from school and frowned. "Can I help you?"

"I've been..." Scorpius paused as he took a seat. It had been a very mixed up few days, emotionally. "I've been okay," he said. "There's been some weird family stuff going on, but I think my mum and I are actually on the same page for once. Sorry I disappeared for a while. I didn't even see you at the Christmas party. How have you been?"

Kit was not use to baristas frowning at him when they took his order. He blinked at the other boy for a moment, who he thought he recognized from school, and then glanced at the pastry case. "Uh -- yeah," he said. "Can I get a brownie and a medium mocha with a shot of caramel syrup? Do you go to Hogwarts?"

"Kit and I didn't stay very long at the Christmas party." Albus admitted as he looked back at Kit. "We ended up leaving early because no one really talked to us and I couldn't find Cepheus." He shrugged. "I've been okay. What's going on with your family?"

"Sure." Marc began to get the cup ready and looked at the boy over the counter. "Yes. I'm a sixth year Slytherin and I'm on the Quidditch team."

Scorpius followed Albus's gaze to Kit ordering a coffee at the counter. He still wasn't sure how he felt about that and he didn't know why. Maybe he was just being a Malfoy, getting weird about having to share his friends even when it was Albus's right to choose who he spent his time with and Scorpius had a boyfriend too, even if it was a secret. "That's too bad. I would have liked to see you there. I still have your Christmas present." Scorpius turned his attention back to Albus. "I'm not sure I'm allowed to talk about it, honestly." He knew he wasn't. "There was just... some surprising stuff that I learned about, and I've spent the last few days talking about it again and again with all four parents."

Slytherin and Quidditch player explained why Kit didn't know him, although the fact that he was one the Slytherin Quidditch team probably meant that he'd thrown some kind of food at Kit at some point in the past. He pulled out the sickles he needed to pay for his drink and the brownie. "My boyfriend's on the Gryffindor Quidditch team."

"Have we come to that point?" Albus asked, his voice soft as he looked back at Scorpius. "We can't even tell each other our secrets anymore?? I guess we really have fallen in the deep end."

"Figures." Marc finished making the coffee and then held it out to the boy. He held out his hand for the money. "You look like a fag."

"It's not really my secret to tell," Scorpius said, giving Albus a hurt look. He was keeping his relationship with Caspar a secret from Albus too, though. Scorpius trusted Albus. He weighed his options, trying to decide which was... Albus was probably less likely to tell anyone the darker one. The secret boyfriend thing didn't feel nearly as weighty as who Scorpius's real father was, and being Lucius Malfoy's son was the one that was dragging him down anyway. "It's about my father." Scorpius lowered his voice. "And... the fact that Cepheus and I are actually... Lucius Malfoy is our father. Not our dad. But don't say anything to Cepheus. He doesn't know and they don't want him to know."

Kit stared at the other boy for a long moment, contemplating walking away with his money and leaving the coffee and brownie behind. He took his drink and set the money on the counter instead of in Marc's hand. "Funny. You didn't look like a bigot, but obviously appearances can be deceiving sometimes."

Albus looked back at Scorpius for a moment. That was a big secret. He reached across the table and took the other boy's hand into his own. "Are you okay?" He asked, rubbing his thumb over the back of Scorpius's hand.

"I'm not a bigot. I didn't say you were disgusting, did I?" Marc arched a brow at the other boy. "Are you not a fag? You just told me you have a boyfriend."

"I..." Scorpius probably should have picked Caspar to tell. But they'd just started dating and he'd been friends with Albus for years, so maybe not. "I don't know, honestly. I told Mum and Dad I was. It explains why my mother dislikes me so much, at least. She didn't... want to have his kids." Scorpius frowned to himself, squeezing Albus's hand. "And I look like him. A lot like him. Everyone who's seen me next to a picture of him has said so."

"I'm gay. That doesn't make me a fag. That doesn't mean other people can call me a fag," Kit told the boy, frowing at him. "Or say I look like one. Can I get my brownie so I can leave?"

"I saw him at Hogwarts once. But, I just figured it was a grandkid resemblance." Albus admitted and then sighed softly. "I'm sorry. I guess I've been a shit friend for being with Kit. I should have been there for you."

Marc looked back at Kit for a moment, then grabbed the brownie and wrapped it up. He held it out to him. "Have a nice day."

Scorpius shook his head. "No, you haven't been. I'm the one who wasn't texting back." And he'd been spending a lot of time with his boyfriend too. "I wasn't supposed to say anything about it anyway. So things are going well with you and Kit?'

Kit took the brownie from Marc and walked back over to the table where Albus was sitting... holding Scorpius Malfoy's hand. He hesitated for a moment, then walked over and sat next to Albus. "Hello," he said to Scorpius, trying not to stare at their hands like a jealous git. Albus was a good guy. He put his drink down, then set the brownie in front of Albus. "One brownie, as ordered. What are we talking about?"

Albus nodded, but then Kit was there. He smiled at him and took the brownie, letting go of Scorpius's hand. "Thank you. I've wanted one since I got here, but I was too lazy to buy it."

He glanced at Scorpius. "Scorpius was asking how you and I are. I was going to tell him we're great."

Kit smiled at Albus, leaning in and kissing him softly. "I think that's a fair assesment," he said, laughing and then taking a sip of his coffee. "I don't know how you are as a best friend, but you're excellent as a boyfriend."

Scorpius tried to squish the jealousy he felt when Kit and Albus kissed. He just wanted to be able to do the same thing with Caspar, that was all. "He's a pretty good friend," Scorpius said. "There's much less kissing involved in being his friend. I'm not interrupting a date, am I? I can go."

"Next time I won't suck as a friend, I promise," Scorpius said. He pulled out his phone and texted Albus that he wanted to hang out with him soon. "See? I still remember how to do it and everything." He grinned and then slipped his phone into his pocket again. "I'm going to get a coffee. I'll be back." Scorpius stood.

Kit waited for Scorpius to leave to get in line, then looked at Albus. "Do you know the barista?" he asked. "He was kind of a twat. He said he wa a sixth-year Slytherin on the Quidditch team."

Kit looked at Marc Flint and resisted the urge to make a face. They definitely hadn't gotten off on the right foot. "Just saying I looked like a fag. Which is true, but not something I'm used to baristas saying when I'm trying to pay them for coffee and a brownie. Are you and Scorpius better now? I know you were upset that he was being distant."

"Your brother isn't really my type either, thank God," Kit said, snorting. "I know he's handsome and the Captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, but he's such a... a man-slut. I don't understand why people fall over themselves for him. Especially when you're around."

"You suspect?" Kit raised an eyebrow at Albus, then shifted a little closer to him. "I've never... proven that I was a man to anyone before, but I'd like to prove it to you, eventually." He took a sip of his coffee to try and ignore the embarrassment he felt at what he'd just admitted. "Have you... proven it before?"

Albus looked down at Kit and smiled softly at him. Was Kit blushing? He touched his cheek and shook his head. "The only person I've ever admitted it to was my hand. It's one-hundred-percent positive that I'm a man."

Kit relaxed a little bit, smiling back at Albus. "Well... Good," he said, and then laughed. "Selfishly, I'm glad it's the only one you've, uh, admitted it to. I think I'd be kind of jealous of whoever else you had, if you had."
